Review Muffin Top Cafe - Minneapolis

Went mid morning for some coffee. Super chill, cute little Cafe. Barista was super nice and laid back. Prices are very reasonable, $10-11 for a 14oz Latte and a cinnamon roll. Only 2 blocks from the Hyatt Regency too! Will be back while I'm visiting. Also a bit confused by some of the negative reviews.

Coffee is amazing!! Great vibes and fun board games as well as card games to play. LGBTQ+ friendly <3 It's a good 15 or so minute walk from the Sculpture Garden if you're looking for a good walk.

I really love the atmosphere. The chocolate muffin taste good, but it was kind of dry not that it was bad though! The staff is really nice. I can’t understand why you have to enter code to use the bathroom though…

I appreciate the atmosphere not typical but very inviting. Staff was pleasant and knowledgeable. Much better coffee than from a chain coffee shop for sure. I am always glad to support a local business that cares about the community. I will be a returning customer for sure.

Muffin Top is a cute, little spot with great coffee drinks to get you going and a full bar to mellow you out. I freaking love the atmosphere there. It's like Cental Perk from Friends but with booze! The staff is amazing and they've got great snack and soups! 10/10 would recommend!

This was a good place to stop for a quick lunch after leaving the convention center. The cheesecake and the pineapple smoothie were my favorite.

Outside it was a little sketchy. Not because the place just the location but the staff was fun and friendly! Board games inside to play and big tables! Great on the inside!

Best coffee shop for Loring Park residents in my opinion, food options are limited but what they have is amazingggg. The breakfast sandwiches are really good and they have a delicious garlic hot sauce to go with it

Have been in several times. The baristas are very attentive and create wonderfully perfect drinks. Awesome chill atmosphere. Food is very good as well. Prices are good, lower than Spyhouse Cafe. Art work on the walls needs to be replaced.

This small cafe has community at its heart, which is why I gave it an extra star. Many coffee shops don't see as such a variety of customers, but Muffin Top does and does their best to accommodate them, leading the staff to go the extra mile when needed. However, the atmosphere is different that other coffee shops; I came here to study, and at times found that difficult to do. Ultimately though, there wasn't too much distraction and I can empathize as it's a public establishment. Furthermore, a great perk of this place is that it's open later than the majority of other cafes. At night, it becomes less of a cafe and more a bar (I was working while staring at a lot of alcohol) but I think it's a fair tradeoff for the extended cafe-esque experience. The food here is nothing to rave about, but the prices are very reasonable. I wouldn't recommend coming here to zone in on work, but if you're mind chilling in a casual environment then this is a nice spot. Some immediate fixes to raise a star would be to consider adding a bottle of Febreeze and a coat hook in the bathroom and to fix the loud ventilator sound the door makes every time someone walks in. I'd return here and would even recommend this place to a friend.

If you’re looking for karaoke in Minneapolis, look no further. Minneapolis’ hottest karaoke bar is, the Muffin Top Café. This place has everything. An elderly black woman with diva hair bringing the house down with Tina Turner. Out Tonight from Rent. Bartender singing karaoke behind the bar and crushing it. Those weird, Googie style, mid century modern squiggles on the Formica bar top. Two random strangers who just met tonight singing a duet and slaying. Nobody wants to go first so the host sings and 15 people sign up. Disco lights and performances that bring a tear to your eye. Put on your makeup, turn on the 8-track, pull the wig down from the shelf, and bring it on down to the Muffin Top Café.

I just visited Muffin Top for the first time, and loved it! Super cute, mellow-but-classy vibe, and nice big windows to work by. I went there this morning to work remotely, and I'll do it again. Also look forward to going back for bingo and drinks! P.S. I highly recommend the spinach quiche and Danishes. Yummy!

Drinks were great, and the server was very courteous and personable. Will be back on my next trip to MN!!

Super friendly staff, always stop in when i’m looking for a quick pick me up or a little something xtra in my coffee. Karaoke nights on Tuesday/ Thursdays are always a blast. Also highly recommend bingo with Maddy and the queens on Monday.

You usually cannot go wrong with a diner, and this one is very cute with its sparkly blue retro decor- but that’s as far as the positive comments can go. To sum this place up- it’s slow & dry. If it’s even possible to have dry soup (and I never thought it was possible) you can get it here. It was quite shocking to see the consistency of mashed potatoes for tomato basil. My kids had a grilled cheese, hamburger, and patty melt- everything was dry as dust! My BLT with avacado had potential with a good amount of bacon- but you guessed it- overcooked bacon and very dry bread. The service was minimal and we waited a long time for our meals.

i guess things have improved a lot compared to reviews from a year ago. We were just at the diner and had great food with extremely attentive service. My meal was the Roadhouse Omelet with pulled pork, my dining partner had the blue cheese burger - we were both very happy with our choices. Charlie brought us a pitcher of water for the table and kept our coffee cups filled the whole time, even when we sat to chat for a while after the meal. We were so impressed we talked to the owner to reserve the back room for an upcoming club meeting.

Have never received good service here. Have been multiple times. Most recently was there late night, waited for food for over an hour, people beside us complained and were not nice about it after about 10 minutes..got their food immediately. Seems there is no process whatsoever. Another time, waited for long period of time, finally complained and food came within a few minutes...it's like they don't actually place your order until you complain. Most important point about recent visit - NEVER GOT FOOD! This place needs some competition in the area! Unless you absolutely require food, avoid this place.

It's difficult to write a review, as this joint has nearly knocked me into a food coma. We started with the most ridiculously huge pile of Canadian Nachos (aka poutine) I have ever seen and they let you choose from THREE different gravy options, no less. By the time we mowed through that and had started into a round of malts, there was hardly room for our burgers. The Butterface malt will turn you into exactly what it sounds like and I was in sugary heaven with my Campfire (s'mores) malt. The fresh cut fries are wonderful and I'm sure the burger will be delicious when I get to trying the leftovers.

This place is classic retro but not kitschy. You can tell they like what they do and aren't afraid to experiment. Will be back for breakfast and definitely more malts.

Pro tip: either bring a second stomach or plan on fasting before eating here.

Good food. Slow service.
Good decor. Serving staff should be more welcoming as that's part of what makes it a diner........................😄😄😄😄
Diner with potential. Let me start with how much I enjoy the late night hours. It has been very convient for after work.always nice and steady. With a pleasant atmosphere. Which brings me to the thought of trying it saturday on the way to work. What a mistake. Very rude servers. Slow. I mean snails move faster. The food tasted nothing like what I previously had the night before. It was awful. The manager had no idea why or what was even going on. There was only a couple booths and myself at the bar. Not sure why the confusion and the refusal to ask the cook why the change.basically just ignored me. So unless you get better management on your day shift. I recommend to all of you. Stick with the late night service and food.

Uncooked chicken. My bf and I wanted to try a new place for breakfast and thought it would be a hit especially with the menu sounding so delicious. We love little diners like Mickey's Diner in DT St. Paul so we thought we would give Nicollet Diner a try. Where to start...ordering our food and beverages went fine but after that everything went down hill. I recieved my Chicken Fried Chicken plate and I've gotta say it looked amazing until I cut into both of the chicken pieces and realized it wasn't cooked thoroughly. I could obviously still see the red blood on the uncooked chicken. I immediately notified the hostess, she apologized and agreed to have the cook fire up some more. I asked for it to be "to go" consider my bf was almost done with his meal. So I sat there eating my hash browns, eggs & the very dry cold biscuit that came with my "fabulous" meal. The entire dining experience took a whole hour not to mention we never ever got refills for our beverages and my bf was dying of thirst that he jokingly said he would run to the bathroom for some water. Oh by the time we finally got our check my "cooked chicken" that was suppose to be "to go" still wasn't even ready. I handed the hostess the money & walked out in disgust due to the poor service & bad food. You'll never see me walk into that establishment again. That meal should have been covered by the owner for the inconvenience and my chicken should have better ready for me to bring home.

Great place. Poor service. Bad food.. The two stars are for the awesome design of the place that opened in September 2014. What was once a run down community center is now the latest renovation to a sketchy area. I was so excited to check this place out. The large windows allow you to see in the place. The newness is inviting. The malts and food looked good. We entered the place at 1130 pm on a Friday night. The waiter was great. Booths are large and comfy. Everything shinny clean. I asked how business was. He said spotty. I was surprised. In the next 45 minutes I understood why. We ordered the hangover breakfast. Three eggs, toast, hash browns, ham, sausage and bacon. $10. Also hot chocolate and a chocolate shake. The place was not busy. It took over thirty minutes to get our food. When it arrived the hash browns were burnt and cold, the scrambled eggs lacked any flavor, the bacon was cold und greasy and the Ham was burnt. The sausage and toast were edible. In a city that has few 24 hour late night breakfast options this has the potential to become a fixture. At this time it is not worth the effort or risk to visit this part of the city. There is a public lot across the street. Two bucks per hour. I will check future reviews and maybe go back in a year. If the food and kitchen staff do not improve, I fear this will once again be a community center.

Edgy crew. I popped in there for breakfast a few times and they were busy, but the atmosphere was refreshing. I liked how edgy the staff was and it coupled nicely with the retro environment--Very multicultural and orientation-flexible plus there was a gothrock cook!

Very slow. I went for brunch on new years day and they weren't staffed to handle the crowd. It took over an hour to get our food and almost half the dishes came out differently than we ordered. My omelette was fine but nothing special.
