Review Sea Change - Minneapolis

Jeannie Hill
We’ve enjoyed brunch, dinner, and just appetizers here over the years in conjunction with attending performances at The Guthrie Theater. Actually, once we can another time just for the food. If you want truly five-star food and service, The Sea Change restaurant doesn’t disappoint. It’s “sustainable seafood” and raw bar have served us both super fresh and unique dishes each time. For anyone living in the Twin Cities and wanting exceptional dining with fish as the featured dishes, or are visiting here, the Sea Change experience is worth the added price! We don’t think that exceptional food and service should be at comparable prices for typical dishes. The creativity of the chef and staff merits a special outing and tipping them too. We’ve had the same server more than once, and really found her most pleasant and helpful. I recommend trying the tuna tartare, oysters, and mussels if you are between appealing entrée options. The staff gave us suggestions as to accompanying drinks and we found their advice was right on. We give Chef Tim McKee and Culinaire high praise for the atmosphere and how this restaurant stands out for serving both the local community and out-of-town visitors who are looking for something unique and well-executed. For cocktails both Toes in the Sand and Snow Cone are terrific orange infused beverages. On one cold frost day in particular, they served up some of the best hot chocolates we’ve had. Parking is no problem and we love dining by its huge and beautiful windows. We’ve brought guests 3x and each party really enjoyed the experience and expressed their appreciation. We want to return now that the Guthrie has resumed performances!

We had an excellent brunch before a Sunday afternoon performance at The Guthrie Theater. The brunch was reasonably priced for the five-star food and service we received. Bottomless mimosas were $10 and were NOT made with bargain champagne. I'm glad we finally had our first Sea Change experience!

Went on a Friday afternoon for lunch. Limited menu. Got the tuna tartar, roasted butternut squash soup and the crab salad. Also got the giggle water cocktail which was unique and memorable.

Some of the best seafood I’ve had and I’m surprised I found it in Minneapolis. Make sure you try the grilled octopus. You won’t be sorry. Ok, maybe you will but only because you can’t have it every night.

Fantastic restaurant whether you're going to the Guthrie or not, this is a destination all on it's own. Could do with some more dairy-free items but amazing selection of oysters! Service could be improved (you know brunch and pre-show is going to be busy but customers are here for an experience and not wanting to feel the rushed pace from the waitstaff) but again, the food is awesome. Beautiful space and nice you can bring drinks over into the theatre. Cute gift shop between the restaurant and Guthrie. Great brunch spot in the winter or when you need to escape the heat while visiting the Mill City Farmers Market.

I visited for lunch for the first time. The fish and chips was delicious. The service was great, and the atmosphere was great. I will be back.

My family and I had brunch at Sea Change before seeing the production West Side story this past weekend. The service was excellent! Some restaurants you may observe servers and wait staff on their phones or in corners chatting, this was not the case. If there wasn't plates to clear you saw the staff staying busy, their attitudes proved that they took pride and enjoyed their jobs. The food was unbelievable! My grandpa is on a special diet, the server and kitchen were so helpful in aiding him with options for his meal. I had the pastrami sandwich, and it was the best I have ever had! The fries were so fresh and seasoned perfectly! Can't wait to join them for dinner in the future!

Gorgeous space. Great wine selection. Friendly bar staff. I have not eaten dinner here yet, but their drinks and space are wonderful. Great location too. They are casual, but note they are a tad fancier than your average restaurant.

Nice spot for a drink. We've had dinner here a few times and have generally been pleased. The seafood has been good, and I've been impressed by the quality of their oysters. It's obviously a nice option for before or after the Guthrie.

Beautiful ambience, convenient to the Guthrie Theatre lobby. Rather pretentious in terms of food & price. Small, "artsy" entrees and high prices. A summer drink and an appetizer on the back patio overlooking Stone Arch Bridge is my recommendation. Usually good service, but sometimes comes with a dose of attitude.

Great place for a snack or dinner before a show. Awesome view of the river and downtown.

Fantastic Experience!! We went to try their raw oysters and assorted sauces. They were delicious and the waiter pick a perfect pairing to go with the oysters. We ended up trying a few other treats off the menu. Great time!

We had a group of 6, all with different food interests. Our server was Peter who couldn't have been better. He provided great information, excellent recommendations and made our group feel like royalty. The food was great and the environment brought it all together! Ask for Peter's section when you go.

My first experience was amazing went for my daughter's birthday but went back 2 weeks later and my fish was raw and it isn't supposed to be and food not nearly as tasty as it was the first time around discouraged

Three words: awesome, awesome, awesome. Do not miss the octopus...charred, smoky, delicious. The cod was amazing with the frog legs. The Arctic char was phenomenal, too. I was going to pass on dessert, but was thankfully talked into the butterscotch semi-freddo. Overall, one of my favorite Minneapolis dining experiences.

In my opinion one of Minneapolises best innovative dinning spots, food that is expertly prepared and interestingly paired. Great friendly service, I've never been disappointed.

The meal and service was excellent, enjoyed the server and hostess. The Octopus was over the top and the bean dish was an unexpected comfort food.

We went here before our play upstairs, she had the cod, I had the scallops. Her cod was delicious and even more so because of the smokey frog legs and corn. We split couple appetizers and she had a glass of cab while I had a Chef's fizz. (Rye drink). Reasonable for fine dinning and the service was excellent. Be sure to get a reservation on show nights.

We've had the pleasure of dining here a couple of times in the past. The food and the service has always been outstanding! The lobster boil with fireworks was a new high. Amazing dinner and show! We intend to be back next year!

We had a wonderful meal at Sea Change! Von was our excellent server once again and went out of her way to assist with my dietary needs. Prior to dinner, we had drinks and appetizers in the bar area. Delicious! We will be back again on our next visit to Minneapolis.

Made reservations for dinner prior to seeing A Christmas Carol at the Guthrie. Ben, our server, was kind and prompt. Awesome experience!!!

This is a great bar. If you have any interest in specialty cocktails, whether or not you have any knowledge or experience regarding them, this is the place to go! I work nearby and have stopped in a couple of times after work and after their kitchen is closed. It has always been great! The bartenders are interactive and the atmosphere is perfect. Whether you want to have a classy dinner date, a chill sesh with some friends, or just sit at the bar and try some new things, they'll accommodate you. If you are in the downtown area I seriously recommend it. Now I just need to find the time to stop by for dinner. P.S. Ask one of the bartenders to steer you in the right direction on the cocktail list, they won't do you wrong.

Our waiter Paul was very good, the food was to "modern" for my tastes.
