I have known the owner Troy from a very young age and danced at Troy and Cindy Typhony’s wedding. Have been friend with his parents for 44 years and the Hobnobber was first started by Troy’s mom and my good friend Diane. The food at this restaurant is excellent as is the Hobnobbet Cafe on Carondelet owned by Troy’s brother Paul. They were taught by their mom to serve excellent meals along with their wonderful wives who also are excellent cooks. The price of this excellent food is very reasonable. Every year the St. Joseph's Day dinners are the best in the city and my hubby and my son and family love eating there.👍🏻❤️
Great neighborhood restaurant. Excellent menu with a variety of dishes. Poboys, seafood, burgers, salads, Italian, American and daily specials. Service with more than a smile. We go very often on Friday nights. Stop in and say hi!
At first we were a bit hesitant about trying this place out, but don't let the look of it fool you. When we entered we were greeted immediately. The food we ordered came out pretty quick. I had red beans, rice and smoke sausage which also came with a side. I chose the potato salad which was not bad at all. The red beans was seasoned well and quite delicious and sausage fried just right! Might I add, it was not Blue Runners either :) .
My mom had a breaded fried pork chop with her and said it tasted good as well. My daughter had fried shrimp and fries which was tasty. Overall, it was a good lunch stop for us that left us all satisfied and full.
Lastly, i don't know her name, but thank you for continuously checking on us at the table and making sure we were doing fine and if we needed anything else.
If in the area, I recommend you give them a try!
I think I may have found my newest binge eat place! I saw so many great plates of food walk past me to other guests that I want to try them all. Seriously you will order and see something else and think you ordered wrong. Trust me you didn't. Everything is great and is plentiful. You will leave full and happy. I swear if Guy Fieri ruins another place we are going to run him out of town. Seating is limited since it is a small place.
What can I say about the Hobbnobber Cafe?
OMG! So good!! And the portions were so much more than I expected. Let's just say I have enough for a full lunch tomorrow.
I had the combo platter. The fish were perfectly flaky and the shrimp were tail-less. Finally a restaurant that removes the tails before frying the shrimp! The side of potato salad was perfect, no onions or pickles (there is a side choice of potato salad or regular salad).
My son had the Tuesday special of trout almondine, which came out fried-which was a little shocking because most restaurants grill it. But it was a larger sized portion of trout, covered with the slivered almonds (and I'm not sure if they had a sauce on it or not, but it looked really good.) And I overheard a regular customer telling her aunt that she could get it grilled or blackened if she didn't want it fried. But as this was out first time there we didn't know what to expect, but we know now.
I was a little taken aback by the price, but after I added it all up (because we had an appetizer of mozzarella sticks and I added an order of their Braland Potatoes), I realized their prices are just as awesome as their food!
They also have daily specials (Tuesday-trout almondine, meatloaf and mashed potatoes, something else I can't remember), that are reasonably priced, with portions large enough to satisfy this hefty appetite. 😁
We will definitely be back!!
While sick I was in desperate need of some soup. I remembered this place from years ago and picked up some crawfish and corn bisque as well as chicken noodle. Not only were the portions sizable and reasonable but these were two of the best soups I have ever had!!! This will be my go-to from now on. Five stars all the way around!
PS Their trout almondine with brabant potatoes is scrumptious!
Man the food is outstanding here! I got the crab cakes pasta and it was so very good!!! My husband got the gumbo which was uber authentic and full of flavor. He also got the Hobnobber poboy and the roast beef was to die for. The only reason I’m giving them 4 instead of 5 stars was because they forgot his potato salad and my side salad. But the flavor of the food and the friendliness of the staff more than made up for it.
Great small local place to grab lunch. Good daily specials and the price is right.
Eaten here several times and enjoyed regular menu and daily specials.
OMG the best meatballs ever! I moved in from the city! And stumbled upon this place! Home cooking ! Was fabulous!!! Such pleasant friendly staff! And now that I realized they deliver with Waitr makes it even better!!
