Helena's

The food here is really good. The new owner is very friendly and nice. The store side looks amazing compared to what it used to look like. They have a lot more items, snacks, and drinks to choose from. They also made sure that they ordered my brand of cigarettes and keeps them stocked just for us. Love this place !!!

We stayed in Mentone during the "off season" I guess. When we asked a shop owner for a recommendation for food, she swore by Helena's. I was not impressed, at all. After you order you go outside across the parking lot and into the gas station to pay for your food. The food took forever and honestly, was not that great. Don't order the patty melt. It is NOT a patty melt. It's a chopped up flavorless hamburger patty on dry white bread.

Not worth the money. The barbecue plate had just a little bit of meat. The French fries were only half cooked and cold. The hamburger steak was like rubber. The pizza, well if you can call it pizza was terrible. The bread that came with the meal tasted old. We spent 45 dollars and most of it went into the garbage. The people were very friendly though.

Helena's looks like a gas station, because it IS a gas station. However, it is also an extremely good place to grab breakfast and lunch at reasonable prices. The cheeseburger is about as good as you will get anywhere...handmade ground chuck patty, and cooked upon ordering. Also, the servers there are about as sweet and attentive as you will find anywhere...anywhere. Caveat: while Helena's takes credit cards, it does so at the 'gas station counter.' This means you can't leave a tip on there. So...be sure to bring a few dollars to put in the tip jar, because those ladies deserve it!

Needed to use restroom. Told the lady I needed to get a bottle of water and use restroom. Her reply "we don't have one....it's broke" Really? Then you are in health code violation but I really believe she just flat out lied. Told her "then I dont need the water". I believe in purchasing something if I'm using RR in a gas station but with rude people like that I will NEVER return to those businesses.
