Once upon a time, fish was cheap and "fish and chips" places catered primarily to a lower class of clientele. As fish has become more scarce and harder to catch, the prices have gone up to the point where fish & chips are now a middle-upper middle class treat. And Cook's fills exactly that role. Family restaurant, diner atmosphere, order at the counter, fish & chips, well prepared. First place I've found in the states where they actually tell you what kind of fish is on offer, just like the do in the commonwealth.
If you like fish & chips, this is the place. Make a trip for it. But you have to like fish & chips because there really isn't much else here. Luckily, I do.
Fast service, great prices, and above all the best fish and chips I have ever had. I keep trying to find some to surpass them, with no luck.
Very good seafood - fresh catch and no trans fat oil for all fried items
I have been here a couple of times and really enjoy the clam chowder bread bowl. The price us right and the food is great. It's a convienent place if you want cheap yummy seafood!!!
Great fish and chips. Sort of pricey... But then again that's the area and you do get a healthy amount of food. Both the halibut and cod are great. Not sure if the halibut is that much better than the cod to make me want to pay that much more. Also the fresh fish for purchase is delicious. Bought some fresh salmon to make sushi and it came out fantastic. This place is definitely one to check out!
Solid fish and chips here. Great seafood, probably the best in the immediate stanford area. They have a great selection of foods from their restaurant side and also the market side. Crab, lobster, clams, oysters, etc. Plenty available!
We've been going to Cook's for 3 decades and love the fish and chips. Very fresh cod or halibut that's always done well and prepared to order. The batter is crispy and not too dense. The chips are thick sliced and are good. I prefer mine a little crispier. These are kind of soft, almost as if done in an oven but they're not. For me, about 30 seconds longer in the fryer would probably do it. Tartar sauce is made in house and good. The portions are filling and a two piece fish with chips is just right. The staff are friendly and efficient and many customers appear to be regulars. Not surprised.
Brought these Jumbo Prawns home and air fried them to perfection. Thanks to Cook's great quality seafood, we enjoyed a delicious meal. Wonderful selection of seafood at the "butcher station" of Cook's. Next time we will have to visit the "Cook's restaurant" right next door.
The market is awesome. Freshest seafood with sushi grade options. We often get salmon, tuna and salmon skin (to fry) and make our own hand rolls at home. I never go anywhere else for my seafood. Service is also friendly and helpful.
I had the clams. As good as they get. Outside dinning only.
