Great restaurant. Looked for a place to eat around my work and saw the reviews and thought it was worth a try. Was not dissapointed at all. The food was great. The portions were good sized and really good for the price. 5.99 luch i got 2 steak tacos, a steak burrito, rice, and beans, a bag of chips and salsa. my other two coworkers were really extremely happy with their food as well. One had what looked like amazing fajitas and the other had the same thing I did. Maybe my new favorite lunch

Great food, OK service. Was in the area picking up my girl from the airport and it was dinner time so I made sure to try this place. I had heard the food was great and it was. Salsa was fresh tasting, my enchiladas verdes were spicy and flavorful. She had the "casserole" which was kind of like a molcajete type dish but served in a cast iron skillet instead of its namesake dish. I sampled it and it was great. The kids had some tacos (chicken and beef), and of course I had to have a few bites, which were great. FYI: Shedded chicken was a little spicey for the kids, maybe get grilled chicken next time. Lots of leftovers which I will happily eat for lunch today and tomorrow. Only complaint was the server was obvioulsy overworked, and was running single dishes to tables as they were ready. We got the compicated entrees first, then the kids tacos later, didn't get silverware unless we asked, had to ask for more chips, etc. I think we showed up right as a few large tables had ordered.
I will be back, and hopefully next time the service will be as good as the food.
Love this place. A Mexican friend of mine told me about this place back in 2002. He said they had really good burritos. So one day for lunch I went with him to make a burrito run.
All I can say is they have the best burritos I have ever had. The things are fat and loaded, they must weigh about a pound or two. I've had the steak and chorizo burritos, both are amazing as well as the chorizo tacos. May not be in the best part of town but it's worth trying. I go just for the burritos and tacos.

Can't argue with authentic.. Discovered this place on urbanspoon, I wouldn't recommend it after dark, but during the day it's good food, good service and reasonable pricing.
Best I had in years. My best friend took me to this little mexican restaurant yesterday and it was great. The location doesn't seem like a nice place but trust me the food really makes up for it. Not to mention the place is very affordable. By far the best mexican food I had in years. Will go back again!
Hidden Gem. This Mexican restaurant, many would say, is in a rather shady part of town. There are few choices left in the warehouse district to enjoy a nice lunch, but despite the location, El Gallo Giro is one of the best Mexican spots in town! The food is always hot, fresh and quick. The next time you find yourself stuck near the airport around lunch, drop by! They are located between Winchester and Getwell on Lamar (78).
The Shakira is an awesome sandwich that I'm lucky to have had.
One of my work buddies told me about this place, so I gave it a try. I had 100% satisfaction with the food quality and quantity for the price I paid, I also thought that the staff was super nice and quick to take my order, the restaurant looks clean and nice from the inside. I highly recommend this place. Thank you!
Went there around 4pm. I ordered the arracherra, it was really good. It came with frijoles charros, not spicy but still good. My hubby had the bistek en chile rojo, he says he expected it to be a spicier and diced up, but it was good. Agua de melon is pretty good!
Don’t listen to the negative reviews. First time eating here. I’m from out of town. Love Mexican food. Everything was delicious. Portions were all good size. I am stuffed. Service was good too. Didn’t have to look for my server. Family friendly, delicious Mexican food. Food comes quickly. This is a hidden gem.
Authentic food!! Barbacoa tacos and ground beef are amazing!! Service is great most of the time! Very good prices too. Only down side is they do not serve liquor, only beer, so no margaritas.
Quick and friendly service, priced well, huge portions, great salsa and large basket of tortilla chips, tastes freshly put together and well seasoned. Recommend highly!
