Old school joint. Busy but room to accommodate and just good no nonsense food. A place you want to come back to. I grew up in Fairfax in the seventies, this place is timeless and you think it is 1977... In a good way.
Great place wonderful food and service .This is the only place my dad wants to go to eat .They know his name and keep his coffee filled
A classic local diner. Everything you would expect and always great service. Probably one of the oldest family owned places in the area and is super popular with locals. The weekend brunch and breakfasts are always a treat but they also have a diverse menu for any time of the day. Just solid good all around with good portions and decent prices.
The place is beautiful and very clean. Family owned, with so many varieties. Perfect service with bilingual waiters, very kind. The food was delicious, I ordered hot sub steak and cheese. Average price for the place, around $12-$14 pp.
This was my first time to this restaurant for breakfast. Definitely worth the drive! Coffee was always full and couldn't ask for a better breakfast of two eggs over easy with grits and corned beef hash. Everything was great. I will be back for sure!
Made a good 1st impression on me. Upon entering, all I could see was booths. Evidently, more to restaurant from photos. Our waiter was good. Food was fresh. Place can put out product by the amount of people that patronize. They do offer some Greek items besides American, gyros & souvlakis. Parking can be limiting due to strip mall.
Drove by this place many times without venturing in. Based on the positive reviews, however, decided to give this place a shot.
Wasn’t disappointed.
Very, very prompt and courteous service, yet not overbearing, which is important when you’re trying to have a nice meal. Whenever we asked for something, e.g., extra napkins, butter, etc., we got it promptly.
And the food came out very quickly - I’d say within 5 mins. The omelette was seasoned well and the portion adequate. The Florentine Benedict was equally well done. The potatoes that came with both dishes had a balanced texture and flavoring…very comforting. The coffee, however, may be a bit too strong for some.
The decor is outdated, but everything was clean and no eye sores. No overbearing smell of grease and bacon you’d expect from a place that serves breakfast. And unlike a local Italian joint where people overdress for a plate of pasta, this place has a “family” atmosphere where everyone looks casual and relaxed.
Definitely going back.
Exactly what you would expect from a local diner. Quick service, good food considering McLean prices. Parking can be limited depending on the time, but there's a big lot for another plaza directly across the street you can use
Losing a customer has always been extremely hard for us at MFR. Losing one of our own is heartbreaking. Our beloved Elisa Bosch passed away on February 24, 2021. Lisa worked for our family for close to 40 years. She pledged her loyalty to the restaurant and for that we are forever grateful. Lisa’s infectious smile and warm inviting personality made her loved by all, both fellow employees and our customers. You will never come across a person more honest and she made the world a better place to live in. I think I speak for us all at McLean Family Restaurant when I say that I am blessed to have known Lisa and an even bigger honor to have called her my friend. We love you Elisa and miss you. ❤️

If anyone has any old pictures of Lisa either at the restaurant or not please feel free to post them in the comments
Great food and service! We went there last minute with 6 adults and 5 babies and they were so kind and patient with us. The food came out quickly and was delicious and reasonably priced!
I went here with a coworker to discuss how our sales are looking in the new year. Our food came out surprisingly fast and the steak & cheese sub I got was pretty good.
Our waiter was very nice.
My only complaint was the fries weren't freshly cut and looked like Orida fries you buy at Safeway. Now, they were cooked properly and did taste good so perhaps I'm being difficult.
Another review mentioned that Joe Biden liked to come here - I can see that. Is that good or bad? I think it speaks that for busy people who want a good lunch, it's a place that will satisfy that need.
Look - it's not a 5 star in the Michelin restaurant - it's a diner. A solid 4 stars.
Today, a few of us from a hiking group visited MFR. The service,
prices, and food was great. We all enjoyed our dishes (meatloaf, Schinzel, pancakes, salads, and beef stew.) I can't wait to dine here again.
