Their menu says they can make any combination for a sandwich...The last time I ordered from here they couldn't manage to make a simple sandwich. I ordered a sandwich with just different vegetables on it and they added things i did not ask for, and it was just not good at all.
Thought I would give them another try--ordered the most simple thing, a house garden salad, corn salsa, and an order of the hummus.
Literally more than half of the lettuce in the salad was wilted/rotting and watery--it's like they didn't even look at what they were throwing in.
The corn salsa had a random chunk of unidentified meat in it that should not have been there. There is not supposed to be cheese in this salad, yet there was a huuuge chunk and smaller pieces of blue cheese that made it into mine and I have a dairy intolerance. I specifically ordered this salad because it had ingredients that were fine for me to eat. They clearly have no regard for cross contamination when preparing foods. Frankly the hummus was nothing special--the only good thing I managed to eat was the pita bread. More than half of the lunch just ended up in the trash. What a waste :(
attached is a picture of what 75% of the lettuce looked like

Maplewood Grille is an excellent fusion of American and Colombian food, with a great ambience and friendly staff. I have been there on several occasions, and each time everyone was more than satisfied with their meal and service. Also, I am gluten-free and, while there is no actual gluten-free menu, I was able to locate something to eat quite easily.

Delicious! We had the empanadas, the BBQ pork sandwich and the steak with chimichurri. Everything was incredible. This may sound silly but the dressing for the salad that came with the steak was outrageously good.
The service was also super friendly and accommodating.

Came here with the family and ordered dinner. Grilled chicken had no flavor at all , very bland and my empanadas was very greasy . I didn't taste any chicken or beef inside, just oil. The kids grill cheese wasn't good either, how do you mess up a grilled cheese?? There's no way this could be called Columbian food. First and last time eating here.

One of the worst restaurant in Maplewood! It's was surprising because it look like it could have potential! To start I order two empanadas! It took them 15 minutes and the worst it was completely frozen in the middle. It's taste like the frozen "Goya empanadas" you can buy at stop and shop. Then I was waiting for couple of sandwich for me and my wife And we saw Cross-contamination with my own eyes. They use one slicer to cut everything, from raw flank steak to provolone cheese with out cleaning or disinfecting and sanitizing. At the same time we received burn and super oily homemade kettle chips! Worst kettle chips I tried! So at that point I told the server to cancel my order. The owner start screaming in spanish and still charge me the frozen empanadas. Bueno I speak Spanish and understood everything she said but Unfortunately I can't repeat what she said! But it was pretty bad language! The worst is that in the menu it's said: "Healthy, fresh food from around the world with a focus on Mediterranean and South American cuisin..." It's was Not healthy and not fresh! Food around world not really! I should have read more reviews! Never coming back! The worst thing is that my wife is Colombian! Hope you find a head cook and food manager that can help you!

Always fantastic food. Nice spicing, very unique and flavorful. Great atmosphere especially on Thursday nights where there is live jazz. Love the original art on the walls too.

I'm not from Maplewood, but I used to train into the city everyday from the station there. We have tried many of the restaurants and shops in the area and one day when leaving the movie theater (two months ago), my wife spotted a sign saying 'Bandeja Paisa' and we were like 'Huh?' What?! Here in Maplewood?, Did we read that correctly?" (Typically food like this would be found in Elizabeth, Newark, Linden and even Union, not in Maplewood) so we thought it was a fluke or maybe a one time special entree etc. In any case, Today we decided to revisit the sign and noticed that this place had it ON THE MENU! In addition to stating American-Colombian Fusion Cuisine - I for sure was happy - I wanted to see if it lived up to our expectation, (I'm of Ecuadorian descent, & my wife is of Colombian descent, first generation American) so of course we needed to see if this 'typical dish' will be worthy of coming back for.... Well, to start off I'm a picky eater, in the sense that we come from living in Queens, NY and growing up eating in some of the best Latin Restaurants from Central & South American Cuisine (and I'm the chef in my house, so I can throw down in the kitchen) - Since we moved out to N.J. 13 years ago - it's been hard to find a really good consistent place, I'm sure you can figure out that... We LOVE food, so we proceeded to order the empanadas (beef); {My wife is much pickier than me here, you have to know that it's all about the 'masa', the exterior shell}, so the verdict there is: "A nice thumbs up!" plus they serve it with green 'pique' - I continued to order the 'bandeja paisa' and it was great! My wife ordered the Cali Panini (Yummm) - The manager/owner Andres was so pleasant and he actually came to advise me that something wasn't available for my dish, but not a big deal because everything else was great, especially the beans! that was actually my favorite part because I haven't had beans like that in well over 14 years at least. They were fresh, loaded with ground beef and full of flavor! (most places that serve these are very bland and probably from a can) We are looking forward to returning and seeing what other Colombian treasures they offer or will add in the future! Gracias Andres por todo!

It's almost a shame it's called a deli as that does not do justice to the craft with which the owner/chef creates and prepares the selections on the menu. The servers are attentive and energetic. The basics are all scratch-made with care and unique selections offer something for the more adventurous to enjoy.
