The first time I was introduced to Stem and Stein was at a Soldier’s retirement party a couple of years ago. It was so much fun I decided to try it again on my own. Then June 2017 I decided to host my birthday dinner there with family and friends. We had a great time. I tried a beer flight, and it was fantastic, as of course the food is. My most recent visit was on a Friday night tasting. They were offering tastings on flavored hard ciders, so I went with two friends. Again, food was great, and we had a wonderful time. I love the chicken, bacon, and ranch 8” pita pizza and the honey Sriracha chicken 8” pita pizza. They are both delicious! Definitely one of my favorite places. You really need to give Stem and Stein a chance!
Best kept Secret in Huntsville. I enjoyed the wine tasting event and the live music. Please try the VIP platter. @stuffWeEat It was the perfect combination of cheese and meat and veggies. I will be back. Happy Thursday!
Great beer selection! Not a huge on tap selection but lots of bottles that can be purchased to go. I love that craft beer is growing in popularity here and becoming more available.
Neighbor hood feel, new owners. S&S has a super cool neighborhood vibe. Friendly patrons and staff with a laid back feel. The bar is where we most often settle in and it is super small, seating, maybe 8 people.
Ally and her sister (Jess?), behind the bar, ALWAYS remember my favorite wine. They are knowledgeable about wine and will special order a case of something that you like; they are locally owned, they (and the patrons) are honest. I accidentally left my purse there on a Friday night and when I called them on Saturday, they had it for me behind the bar to pick up, NOTHING was missing.
Their large recently-installed back patio will be a nice place to hang out in the Spring.
I don't care for the food here, it's kind of reminiscent of a frat party menu (SORRY!!!!). (Nachos, paninis, chips and salsa, you get the idea.)
I understand the young couple who own S&S just sold it, so perhaps the food will improve.
They offer wines by the bottle to purchase and take with you, and I think, beer, too. They have beer and wine tastings weekly. (I've not attended these). There is acoustic entertainment on some weekends - maybe every weekend.
There is a TV for watching sports.
Check out Stem N Stein, if you're forgetful, don't use the purse hooks under the bar. ;-)
I stumbled across stem and stein when I was actually lost, thank goodness for that. I walked in and automatically I was greeted by two very sweet girls. I sat at the bar and quickly felt right at home. I ate the Stein Panini and loved it. Conversation from fellow patrons was fantastic and well as the staff. I'm hoping to get back soon to participate in the weekly wine tasting. Incredible wine/beer selection and very knowledgeable staff. Very impressed.
Visited the stem and stein recently on a business trip. Two girls were working on this particular evening. Knowledge of all the different craft beers and wines were incredible. They were very friendly and always ready to give recommendations. Seemed like they knew most patrons by name and often what they would like to drink. Food was pretty good, but the environment was entertaining. I found myself wishing I had a bar like this where I come from. If ever back in the area I will visit again.
Great place to relax at the end of the week. Found the Stem and Stein on UrbanSpoon (where else?) and checked it out for my last night in Madison. Love the low key atmosphere, the live music and the great selection of beers. For me, the food could be improved, but the atmosphere and the great quality beers really made up for what the food lacked. It's not that it was bad - the menu was clearly designed primarily as an accompaniment to the beers and wines they serve. The food isn't the main reason to go there. The service was pretty good in my opinion. The wait staff was there when I needed / wanted them to be, and I was never left waiting long. I would definitely recommend this spot if you are looking for an interesting glass and a great, funky neighbourhood bar to hang out in for a couple of hours.
Great Beer Selection, Poor Service. I'm a pretty regular customer at Stem and Stein, thus I've learned how to get my beer quickly. ORDER AT THE BAR and sometimes that doesn’t even work. Whenever I sit at a table or worse outback on the patio I seem to be forgotten about pretty quickly. They have nowhere near the level of staff they need to support the crowd they get on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night. I've waited over an hour for food before and sometimes 30 minutes or more for the wait staff to come back to ask if I want another beer. The wait staff never seems overly happy to see you either. Maybe that's just me, but I've spent a lot of money in there and you’d think they’d be a little more courteous. Also, the beer menu isn't laid out that entirely well. I like to know the beer name, the style, the brewery, the location of the brewery, the ABV, price, etc. The menu at the Nook is awesome and gives you all the right information in a nice format. My normal mode of operation is to; go in, order a beer at the bar, pick out a 6-pack and go home to enjoy it. The only issue with that is that beer for sale is not cold. The retail sale for the beer seems to be haphazardly laid out and stacked up all over the place. Why not clean it up some and lay it out a little better. It doesn't really work for me. Also there never has been any one manning the retail area to help you make selection. If you are looking for the best retail beer selection in HSV, check out Liquor Express.
Great Beer and Wine Selection. Good Place to chill after a long week. Beer selection is what keeps me coming back. I really appreciate all the different flavors you can taste before you settle on one. Also you can usually find a nice selection of beer from Straight to Ale which is Huntsville's own brewery.
Food is really good especially Jimmy's Asskicking Chips and dip.
The Ladies that run this place are really personable and provide great service.
Weekends are nice also with easy listening bands.
Great place for drinks. The stem and stein is my favorite place to grab a drink: great beer and wine selection, tasty appetizers, and great atmosphere.
Went around 4-5 on a Saturday afternoon. So cozy, great atmosphere. The pours are generous and the wines are so much better than other bars/restaurant. Met family there and had great drinks and conversation. The owner (Jess) is so personable and even had time to sit with us for a while. Our new date night spot for sure! Bought a couple of bottles to go as well. Will definitely be back to eat and drink!
Um $10 wine tasting on Thursdays will always be a go for me!! They have the best cheese & meat charcuterie boards to pair them with and their bottles are reasonably priced. Will be back!
This is the standard for craft beer bars in Madison. The owners are absolutely great people and the staff is awesome too.
The beer selection is amazing. I've had approximately 300 different beers, so it's difficult for me to find a beer I haven't had. 90% of their beers on tap are ones I had never tried before. The staff was super friendly and the atmosphere was great.
First time to Stem & Stein.... The peach margarita wine was really good!! Love the patio out back too!
Very good. LOVE the beer selection & crostini appetizer!
It's a cute little hole in the wall that has been around for at least a decade. The wine list is excellent ($10 corkage plus retail price for any bottle), and they have 10-17 beers on tap at any point. Ali and Jess are a lot of fun, and they've done a great job as owners after working as bartenders for years.
An excellent selection of beer, wine, and cider. The food is solid but nothing to write home about. A good place to grab a quick bite and a couple drinks.
