Electric Earth

I've been stopping in this place periodically for 11 years. It's still around. That must mean something. All in all, this place is ok. It's not exactly professional, the staff is constantly rotating. I've never seen the owners? However, the staff gets the job done. The coffee is always solid, excellent taste. When it comes to food, it is what it is, the basics. They have the art down pat. Lots of rotating art by interesting artists. The wall mural is one of the coolest in the city.

Surly counter help. Don't order food, they don't want to be bothered by sandwich orders. We ordered and paid for sandwiches at around noon, then sat down and watched as the young man served customers who came in and ordered after we did. He ignored our sandwich order. The woman who ordered directly behind us did get her BLT, so maybe he just didn't like us. We watched her walk away, then we sat there while this young man served about 7 or 8 customers after that. When I asked the young man why we were not getting served, first he lied and said he had tickets from before us, then he said he only makes sandwiches "in the background." I guess that means that as long as he has drink orders, we can damn well just sit there and watch. I asked for our money back. Did not get a receipt. Will never go back.

This cafe touts it "free- wifi" as a benefit for customers. The wifi is an exercise in frustration and dial up might be faster! After having to plug the parking meter for a max of 25 minutes, meaning I will have to interrupt my lunch to feed it again, I entered the cafe and found the atmosphere pleasant. I wanted to order something quick. So when I noticed the sign advertising fresh soup daily, I was intrigued. I inquired after the soup of the day and was given 2 options. I chose the white bean and kale. Well, this soup was most definitely not fresh! In fact it was frozen and took over 10 minutes to reheat. So much for honest advertising and for quick service. So while I am waiting I attempt to bring up a website for the Electric Earth Cafe, no success. No easy way to contact the owner to give feedback. So instead here is my review. Slow service, slow wi-fi, false advertising.

Strike 1: Internet connection didn't work. Strike 2: The vegan blueberry muffin was so bland I couldn't bring myself to finish it. Strike 3: The espresso is even worse than Espresso Royale's. Had any one of the above qualities been at all acceptable it might have rendered the eclectic, cyberhippy aesthetic more tolerable. Three strikes. I'm out.

This Cafe is BAUM. Went there last night, and I was thinking dang they make a DELIGHTFULLY SUCCULENT MATTE TEA. The ATMOSPHERE IS WHIMSICAL with SURREAL WALL MURALS and a JOVIAL STAFF. I had a great evening with friends there. But what made the night REAL special was the barrista. She was a REAL DIMEPIECE. Anyone get her number? Props to whoever hired her. She made Electric Earth Cafe a SOLID JOINT FOR STRAIGHT CHILLIN.
