I just took a bite of the 'Bama Brisket Sandwich and oh my goodness. It is so good! Perfect level of spice, perfectly smoked brisket, pickles, collard greens and pickles. Swooning over this sandwich for real.
I really enjoyed my food here. Definitely try the local hot sauces as well. I got the smoked chicken and collard greens and both were excellent. The only negative I would say is that my friend got a side of coleslaw and while it was excellent on the sandwich, it was somewhat bland as a full side item.
Staff is so friendly and warm. Cozy little restaurant atmosphere, which I loved. I had breakfast and the Johnny cakes were amazing! Red potatoes were perfectly seasoned and my eggs were cooked perfectly as well. Definitely recommend!
Quaint restaurant in the heart of downtown Madison. Having booked the food truck as our only vendor when we got married (our reception guests are still raving about the bbq two years later-best decision ever), we have been dying to try the brick and mortar location. My husband and I stopped in this morning to try the Cinqo de Mayo specials, and it was well worth the trip! The staff and proprietor are professionals, and the carnitas huevos were delicious. The pork was well seasoned, had lovely carmelization and texture; and the green salsa and pico de gallo were in perfect balance with the meat and egg. We also enjoyed the lemonade. They have applied for an alcohol permit and are awaiting approval. We will definitely be back...and next time will also try one of the pie selections.
Delicious, Smokey, juicy brisket, honey imbued cornbread, and vinegar slaw (they were sold out of collard greens). What’s not to love? I will definitely be back to try the rest of their offerings
Small place with good BBQ style food.
Best bbq I've had in Madison. I had the 'Bama Brisket Plate named after Barack Obama with some amazing collard greens and a huge chunk of cornbread. Also sampled the raspberry peach and strawberry rhubarb pies, both of which had a really dope crust. Both were delicious, but the raspberry peach was the best.
The food here is delicious! We reserved the entire restaurant for a private event. They gave us the choice of ordering ahead or providing us with their full menu. We opted for the latter and as a group got to taste most of their offerings. Besides the great food, the service was warm and welcoming and the cozy room made it easy to chat with guests and feel togetherness.
Cozy spot with high quality, pastured/grass-fed meat dishes, that are very delicious. If it's your first time in I recommend going with their pulled pork sandwich. I like that they serve both breakfast and lunch/dinner menu items during all open hours. They have a couple of vegetarian options as well such as the omelette where they allow you to pick from a list of about 10 ingredients. And they have a few veggie options to choose from as well, so it's easy to create a full meal here. This morning I had a red pepper, sausage and cheddar omelette, a side of bacon, a salad, a coffee, and homemade blueberry pie to take home (and it wasn't loaded with added sugar!). I ended up eating the entire piece of pie before I left though. The owners are very easy-going, and they create some of the best BBQ in the Madison area. The place isn't huge, but they have about 7 tables, and the food comes out fairly quick. Pickle Jar is easily one of my new favorite quick breakfast/lunch spots in Madison.
