Review Field Table - Madison

Georgi W
I stopped in for Brunch today with a friend. I had the okonomiyaki (Japanese griddle cake) and added a poached egg. The vegetables were crisp tender, and the flavor of the leeks was so fresh! Would definitely order again. We shared a Fried Potato Bowl, and there was enough to take some home, too. The potatoes were more roasted than fried which I preferred (healthier) and the sauces were a nice accompaniment. Holly, our server, took very good care of us. Loved the upscale rustic decor. Will definitely be back!

While every dish I've had here for both brunch and dinner has been fairly tasty, Field Table unfortunately suffers from quite slow service. Their new chef puts together some strong dishes, but it's hard to justify the prices and time when it takes 50 minutes after seating to get your plates, especially when they were as empty as they were this morning. Hopefully they can pull in more people and try to get things moving quicker, otherwise they'll have a hard time standing out as a Madison brunch spot.

The salmon on the noodle tasted delicious. But I don't like noodle and soy bean sauce. The beard and cheese are good. I would like to come again just for beard and cheese.

Nice ambiance and decent food, but they were out of most of the things on the menu that I wanted to order. Pot Pie had great crust but needed better filling.

Good atmosphere, overpriced for what you get. I got the risotto and a salad, both were fine but unremarkable. Vegetables were not cooked or seasoned particularly well. The meat dishes may be better. Beer selection was fine but not particularly interesting, and the wine and cocktails were a bit overpriced compared to other options around town.

This place has undergone a couple management changes over the years. Our most recent visit was pretty good overall. Wine list and spirit list are pretty big. Cocktails were good. Glasses of wine we're well chosen. Food was delicious. The let down for me was service. Food was a bit slow. It seemed like they were understaffed on a Saturday night which just seems silly. This place can be great but it hasn't quite hit it's stride.

Nice waitresses trying to make the best of what seems to be the worst kitchen service and management I have experienced in a long time. I was seated outside with my family and we ordered immediately. My beverage came 10 minutes later, just a bottled beer so nothing fancy, they said they were backed up so I get it. Another 10 minutes pass and the waitress comes to tell me they are out of the burger I ordered but could substitute another with the spicy ingredients on the side. OK, fine, done. Another 30 minutes passes and I ask about our food. Ten more minutes and they report our ticket was lost. I ask for something for my kids to eat as it was already an hour past lunchtime and she said they had bakery items and would bring one. Then 5 minutes later our food came , they put the spicy peppers on the kids' food instead of on the side—at that point I didn't care so much as they at least had something to eat. The food alone: It was an EXTREMELY tiny burger and barely any side. The Pork belly BLT was good but also seemed a small portion for the price. If it had come in any kind of orderly manner I might have been ok with the meager portion of the $14+ burger. They did take 20% off the food bill but I can assure you I will never go back and will be telling everyone I know about the disappointing experience.

The atmosphere and staff were wonderful. My disappointment arose as I watched two tables arrive at 10 am. The one table (a table of two who had reservations) needed to leave because 35 minutes had passed and they had not yet received their food and were one of the only tables in the restaurant. The other table didn’t get their food until 11 am,one hour later. I received my food before both of these tables and ordered after them. Although my own personal experience wasn’t awful and the food and beverages were good I overheard the frustration with the other tables and it made me feel uncomfortable. I also felt bad for the servers because they seemed frustrated because their tips were being affected by the back of the house. It was sad to watch because I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for 11 years and could relate to their frustration:/ i was hesitant to order more food because I was afraid I would have to wait 30+ minutes for a waffle when there weren’t other tables in the restaurant. I will return however in hopes that this was a bad day and not a reoccurring problem. I will leave a different review depending on my next experience.

Extraordinary experience! Visited with several couple to celebrate our anniversaries. We absolutely loved meeting Trish Davis, the owner. She was incredibly passionate about the organic and local ingredients in the food and wine on her menu. We're headed back again tomorrow for a special wine and food pairing. We highly recommend dining at Field Table!

Stopped for brunch this morning- May 5th. Ordered 2 sausage breakfast sandwiches. After 30 minutes of waiting we finally had to ask where our food was and then it took another 10 minutes until our sandwiches showed up. During this time, our waitress only checked on us once. We were comped 2 mimosas for the long wait but when the restaurant is next to empty there is no reason 2 sandwiches should take 40 minutes and only be checked on by the waitress once. Great food but the staff and service need a lot of work.

The dinner we had here was amazing. It is like a celebration of food! Every detail is considered. We had fresh baked bread and the meal got better and better from there. I had the best duck I have ever had. I do not usually do this but I went to the back and thanked the chef for his amazing dish. The service is superb. and all the servers work like a team to make sure your dining experience is fantastic. We were really impressed. I was also amazed by their dedication to sustainability even with the soap they have in the ladies next to a fresh bouquet of roses. Dinner is a bit expensive the good news is they are also a market so they have things to go that fit any budget. Wonderful experience!

I hate to go 3 stars. The food was very tasty. The service leaves quite a bit to be desired. We were greeted in an empty restaurant with being asked "Can you be done by 7:15?" I understand that reservations should be kept and all, but we were there at 5:30 with two kids under 8. It seemed like an odd question to me when there wasn't another table yet seated. And if there was a concern about getting us out, perhaps ensure that we aren't sitting there looking for our server. Then there was the chicken. The sauce tasted amazing. It was a bit concerning that the leg was still raw on the inside. When I told the server, she apologized. Great; but this is a $25 half chicken. Taking a quarter of the meal without doing anything to make the mistake right leads to a poor experience. This is something that could have made us sick. A simple "sorry" is insufficient. Finally, as we're leaving, there were 4-5 people at the host stand. None of them said anything to us; no "thanks for coming", "hope to see you again", or even "have a good night". I turned around and saw them jumping on the table to clean it off right on our heels. I'd really like to go back for the flavor; but the service and experience have me questioning whether I should try again.

Horrible portion size. My $16 plate of pork belly was the size of 2 chicklets. Poor service. Don't expect to see your menu, food or dinner party. Bad lighting. Sat our table of 8 in the back facing the blank wall and the bathrooms. They didn't have the salmon or the red wine I ordered. At the end, the waitress didn't even bother to ask a table of 8 if we'd like to split our bill. Ended up paying $60 for a glass of wine, a Bulliet on the rocks and two of the most pathetic plates of food I've ever had in my life. Such a waste of money! We had to go get dinner somewhere else afterwards! If I could give it 0 or negative stars I would.

I love this place so much!! Great energy and ambiance! Amazing staff and service. Beautiful simple decor and lighting. Love the open kitchen concept. Oh ya and the food is great too! I love the protein bowls for lunch & a light dinner. They support other local small business.

From the decor design to incredible drinks & food, phenomenal Madison gem of a restaurant. They also offer early 7 am morning coffee bar with treats, grab and go snack/lunch options and WiFi. Highly recommend!

Not worth the fistful of change I threw in the meter to grab a cup of coffee. Shall not return. Nor recommend.

Terrific bar and restaurant. The waitstaff was very attentive to our needs and the food is first rate. Highly recommended.

I was so excited to finally try Field Table for lunch, it's close to my office and I was hoping it would be my 'go to' place for a healthy, quick lunch during the work week. To be fair, I arrived at 1:40pm and they close at 2pm. However, it was obvious the server/cashier was far more interested in closing the doors than helping me with a lunch selection. After asking about soup or other options for lunch, I was referred to the refrigerator section of the market and found a Butternut Squash option. Feeling rushed, I promptly checked out only for the cashier to flip the check-out screen toward me which required me to 'tip' her. I actually enjoy tipping well to folks who excel at their jobs so not tipping her wasn't an option, I'm just not sure what I tipped her for.

An amazing addition to the square! Bio-dynamic wines, delicious eat-in meals and awesome grab-and-go items. The owner has been around every day politely asking for feedback in a way that makes me feel like he cares about more than just making money. I can tell that he and the staff believe in what they are doing, and I believe in it too. This quickly became a regular place for me to eat any time of the day. Thank you!

Beautiful place! Stopped in for a few drinks and our bartender was fabulous. The service was impeccable and the outside seating was perfect. Can’t wait to go back!

I thought I was in San Francisco! The food at Field Table was fresh; the flavors were absolutely delicious; and yet so unpretentious and simple. I had the charred peaches appetizer and Salmon with soba noodle, maitake broth, and egg yolk. My partner (a chef/owner in Central Illinois via San Francisco) enjoyed roasted carrots with yogurt and pistachios and the farm chicken large plate. Again, superb! Thank you!

Been to Field Table a couple times now for mid day tea and late dinner. Every time was great. Good people, great food, and a beautiful atmosphere no mater what time a day. I recommend you try them out soon! Going back again tonight!
