Great waitstaff and service. My French Onion soup was quite good, and I found my wife’s tomato soup tasty as well. She prefers her soup less creamy, so it tastes more tomato-y, but I liked it just fine. Main meal was the Scottish Salmon, and it was phenomenally flaky, crispy, and done proper. Delicious. My wife’s Planked Whitefish was awesome, and the torched mashed potatoes were perfect.
For dessert we ordered the tiramisu, but I’m pretty sure it contained alcohol. We didn’t think to ask that, and weren’t told. We’re adults, so it’s all good, but I prefer my desserts dry. We didn’t finish it…

Didn't have time earlier to write out my review, but here we go- WOW, WOW, WOW- What an all-around fantastic experience!
From the start, making the reservation and the follow-up from them was great- emailed to confirm, called me, and sent a text reminder- it was way cool the way they had it all together... and the little hostess was so nice!
I had read reviews prior to reserving for wifey's birthday- and made sure to ask for Oscar- a fantastic waiter! Explained everything thoroughly, made suggestions, and really made sure everything was perfect. I think he felt almost honored that we asked for him. What a humble and nice man.
The food was out of this world- Wifey had Dover Sole prepared to perfection; I had the "Fruit of the Sea" with Squid Ink Pasta- Unbelievable and too much to eat in one sitting after delicious appetizers- Crab Cakes, BBQ Shrimp similar to what I've had in New Orleans, and Chowder. It was just too much for me, I got to have leftovers for home. (Oscar did warn me...) This leads me to my only real complaint- The To-Go container was kind of cheap and flimsy- the lid did not seal well so that on the long walking trip back to the Ferry and beyond, it made quite a mess in the bag. You would not expect this from such a "High-End" joint!
All in all, one of the most wonderful dining experiences in my life!!!
Delicious meal. We ordered the bread board and crab cakes to start. I do wish the bread would come with the meal rather than being ordered, but it was great bread, the roasted garlic and butter were a great addition. I ordered the Sole for my main, the buttery lemon sauce paired nicely, the Sole was a little bit too salty, but I enjoyed it nonetheless! We also ordered brussel sprouts and roti potato (wish was pretty much a hash brown). All was very tasteful. We ended the night with the peanut butter pie and the island s’mores.
We truly enjoyed the 1852 Grill Room. so much that we ate there 3 times while on the island. Even breakfast was delicious. My wife said she was impressed with how good they could make a simple breakfast taste amazing. I recommend the Smash Burger! A truly great burger. We had a phenomenal server, Eddie. Eddie combines his great personality with high class service to make the whole experience truly fancy.
Excellent dinner experience! Appetizers were done perfect. Shrimp was made fresh and was wonderful. Bread board was delicious. Had an Old Fashioned make right! Filet was fantastic. Too bad we didn't have room for dessert! The best dinner we had on the island. We will definitely be back.
The food was wonderful, and our waiter Fred was so kind, funny, attentive, personable, and knowledgeable! Great place to enjoy our 20th anniversary! Would definitely recommend it!
We just had the most enjoyable dinner here. This is our third visit to Mackinac Island, but our first visit to Island House Hotel. Everything was perfect- our food was delicious, our server Beth was so kind, and the atmosphere was just lovely with the piano music!!! 💯 A+

We had a beautiful dinner and outstanding service. This dining room is really beautiful and we enjoyed the pianist. I’m sorry to say that I forgot my server’s name, but he did an outstanding job. I enjoyed talking about Miami and meeting his brother and sister in law.

This place is pure elegance my friends took me to dine as a birthday gift and the experience was one to remember, Jacqueline our server was honestly one of the best servers I've ever had a genuine smile on her face this young lady was so welcoming her menu knowledge was top notch we basically went with all her recommendations n she did not lie everything was amazing we started with the bread board,crab cakes n springrolls , I had the steak the others had the roasted chicken the porkchop n the burger ❤💗😊everything thing was perfect hats off to the chefs . The pianist set the atmosphere he even played happy birthday for me lol all I can say is well done 1852 thank you Jacqueline 😊 you made our experience very enjoyable you are a star keep on smiling hun
The atmosphere was great - there are big, beautiful picture windows that overlook the waterfront. The thing we probably enjoyed the most about the atmosphere was the live piano player. It's something that you don't see too often and really made for a very pleasant atmosphere. Staff was awesome as well.
The food was excellent. We had the artisan bread plate, which was delicious. Our beef dishes were cooked very well and seasoned nicely. Desserts were great too - the ice cream cookie sandwich was really tasty.
