Review The Fat Lamb - Louisville

Jeff Hilligoss
The Fat Lamb is an absolute gem! If you go to one restaurant in Louisville, make it The Fat Lamb. The cocktails, wine and food are terrific across the board. Talk to Joe or Dane at the bar and they will steer you to what works for you every time. And Chef Dallas and the crew in the kitchen create incredible flavors that will delight any palate. We hope to be able to try everything on the menu and can’t wait to go back every time we’re in Louisville.

amazing meal in louisville. everything on the menu sounds so good it was so hard to decide what to order, but we got the arancini (amazing) & an old fashioned and house cocktail which were perfect. our server recommended the short ribs and they were truly amazing. melt in your mouth and the polenta was so creamy. the veal bolognese was also so so flavorful. split the warm blondie with coffee ice cream for dessert, wow a perfect flavor combo. all around amazing meal, definitely expensive but completely worth it. service was fantastic and the whole vibe was so cozy and enjoyable. such an awesome experience as a first time visitor to the city.

Food was pretty good. I got the ribeye with mashed potatoes, not sure if it was worth the price, but it was good. Cocktails were good. The Nutella mousse was a bit too rich for me, it would've been better if there was no marscapone.

Our 1st visit. Great date night with excellent food. Truffle fries to get us started were amazing. The dipping sauce was incredible. I had the fried chicken and it was delicious. My husband had the Braised Beef short first and he said they were delicious. Great atmosphere with wonderful service. Recommend you make reservations prior to going.

Don't forget to scan parking before dining! You get 3 hours free, so it's a minor inconvenience but worth mentioning. Very cozy atmosphere, nice selection of spirits, beer, and cocktails on the menu. Shared the arancini. They were okay. Not exceptional, but we're also not in Sicily. I enjoyed the gnocchi. Very fresh and homemade flavors. My friend had the duck and enjoyed it. It looked overcooked to me and it was the chef's call. Overall, it was very pleasant. Attentive service. Reasonable price as well. I'd come back here before returning to Jack Fry's because they put you on the countdown clock at Fry's. This was much more relaxed.

Wonderful hospitality I have ever experienced. The old-fashioned cocktail is delicious. I had the special menu with the Apron INC. The Greek salad is good. Surf and Turf is amazing, and I love it. The dessert was perfect to end the meal. I would come back to try a few more of their menu and cocktails in the future.

Great ambience, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere and decadent food. Beef ribs were tender and tasty, salads were amazing and everything was made with fresh ingredients.

We really enjoyed this spot. Drinks: Both our drinks were delicious! He got the blood moon Manhattan & I got the tequila pineapple drink (highly highly recommend!!) We didn’t order any apps, but something noteworthy is their truffle fries were crinkle fries, so if you aren’t a crinkle fry person, avoid them. I considered getting them until I saw them come out. Dinner: Lamb chops - 9/10 with the only complaint was not enough of the sides/veggies. Meat was great, cooked and seasoned well. Sea scallops with spinach & bacon risotto - easily 10/10 and I don’t even like bacon. Cooked well, sauce was a perfect pair with the scallops. We both felt fulfilled after the dinner without feeling like we overindulged. Portion sizes were spot on. Service was great, the owner even came by to check on us during our meal and was very personable. Our waitress was interesting, slightly socially awkward, but she was great on her timing and not interrupting our conversations! Total damage for 2 drinks and 2 entrees: just shy of $130, then tip. Totally worth it for a nice dinner out.

We just loved this restaurant. Small and quaint. We had truffle fries, black vinegar based beef short ribs, hot sauce marinated fried chicken, and the Ricotta Gnocchi & Frondosa Farms Mushrooms. Everything was perfect. We didn’t realize gratuity was added to our party of five and we left a 20% tip too. The restaurant called me (phone number from reservation) and told me. They said they feel honesty is always the best policy. I told her to keep both and have a great night. I have never had a restaurant call me and tell me I over tipped! This is a foodie’s haven.

We arrived on Saturday at 5 o’clock right as they open. Amazing service, very knowledgeable, staff, and food that was absolutely amazing. The goat cheese and pita are excellent, and the duck and seafood croquettes were perfect. We will absolutely come back.

Amazing place to dine! We were visiting from out of town and arrive at opening. We didn’t have a reservation but were seated right away. The staff was so friendly and our waitress made some great recommendations. The appetizer was soooo delicious and for entrees the lamb chop and burger were both incredibly good. For dessert we ordered the cannoli which ended up being 3 large cannolis, the value for the dessert was amazing lol. Would love to come back next time I’m in town! If you’re on the fence, you can’t go wrong visiting!

The food was amazing. The shrimp and lamb was well cooked. The restaurant has a calm and warm vibe. The restaurant owner and the customer service were extremely nice. They hosted my graduation dinner, and they did an amazing job.

We had a great meal at the Fat Lamb. I went with my daughter and we really enjoyed the atmosphere and service. I had the gnocchi which reminded me of our visits to Rome. Superb! I was also pleasantly surprised by its spacious parking lot you can use as a guest. Parking in the Highlands can be a challenge, but the Fat Lamb validates with an app and it was so easy to use. We will be back!

Definitely one of the top three restaurants in Louisville. Amazing food coming from rotating menus. You'll need to visit multiple times just to try all the great dishes. Grab some cocktails too, they're also very tasty.

This place is fancy! Great Service. Vegetarian options are limited. Overall we had a great experience.

Great service, clean, cool and easy interior decor. The food was fresh, cooked well and shareable if you want to taste a few things with friends. The lunch menu is limited but still has enough options to please most groups. The fried chicken was honestly what I recommend as it was perfectly cooked and came with a delicious slaw. The lamb meatballs were so good too. Make a reservation before the lunch rush which I think happens around 1:30.

Love Love Love! The atmosphere was perfect. Staff were timely and polite. And most importantly, the food is top tier. I had the special (can't think of the fancy name) but it's fried veal (bone in). Can't wait to visit again

We found every facet of the resturant to be aces. The staff was super attentive, addressing lots of questions about ingredients that I didn't recognize. The water glasses were never empty. For those who care you know how huge that can be. If you like cocktails the Black Betty shouldn't be missed. The bartender is a true mixologist and builds a beautiful balanced drink. The short rib was savory, juicy and the best we ever had. The goat cheese app and Brussels sprouts have flare. The lamp was also excellent. Not only do I give Fat Lamb five stars, I believe it would earn a Michelin star in NY or Chicago. Go out of your way if you have to, it's worth it.

We had the most amazing dinner Friday night! My daughter who just moved to Louisville for grad school heard about it and made the reservation. The food was delicious. And even though it was something new for us, everyone in in our party enjoyed it, even my 73 year old Mom! The scallops, lamb chops, salmon, and flank steak dinners are to die for. I ordered the roasted brussel sprouts as an appetizer and could have eaten the entire bowl! The atmosphere was great and our waiter, Bedis, was the best. He was patient and kind, and explained some of the menu items we asked about (a lot was new to us). I would highly recommend this restaurant. The whole experience was fantastic!

... drive by this place, daily... but never ate there until yesterday evening, I had short ribs... and got to taste lamb meatball, and a bit of the shrimp and grits... roasted Brussel sprouts rocked, sautéed kale with giant beans were awesome... and even the Pinot Blanc that we selected, was spot on! Melissa, was an attentive server! This place is solid!

Our lunch choices were delicious, fresh, and carefully sourced. The hamburger was absolutely the best we have ever had! The salads were amazing and had the perfect balance of greens and dressing. The staff was attentive and friendly and the owner came to our table to ensure we were satisfied. What a wonderful locally owned restaurant! We will definitely return for dinner and a special cocktail. I'll be spreading the word about this great place!

My husband and I recently celebrated our five year wedding anniversary at The Fat Lamb. I am a vegetarian and he is not, and it is always a challenge to find a restaurant where we both can eat and be happy. We found it! We both loved our meals. We started with the ricotta toast. I had the eggplant and he had a seafood pasta special. For dessert we had Nutella gelato. Everything was delicious!

From the minute we walked in, Brian made us feel welcome! Nicole was a fantastic server and the food was delicious! An overall lovely experience! Highly recommend!

Absolutely superb! The baked goat cheese appetizer was an amazing start and our salads and entrees were even better! Exceptional service also contributed to a delightful dining experience. And a very special thanks to Chef Dallas for an anniversary dessert that was a little bit of heaven!

A wonderful dining experience! My husband and I felt very spoiled when we celebrated our anniversary at the Fat Lamb this week. The food & drink selections were so intriguing (we will definitely be back to try more from the menu!) and everything was delicious. The service was wonderful & very personal. We were encouraged to bring our kids next time and I love that we will be able to enjoy family-friendly upscale dining in Louisville! Highly recommend you give it a try!

I cannot give enough stars to this location. It exceeded my expectations. Perfectly prepared Lamb and Fried Chicken. The drinks were flavorful and perfectly crafted. Knowledgeable server who was attentive and never hesitated to check on us. We will definitely be back!

Loved the lamb meatballs and my fish of the day, salmon, was perfectly cooked! Really appreciate the chef modifying my selection to accommodate my dairy free diet. The sweet potatoes purée substitute for polenta was delicious! Top notch service and the venue was cozy but fun and lively.

Had the pleasure of dining here with a large group from out of town. The meal was utterly amazing. Every single item was perfect, from the variety of shared appetizers to the main course of shrimp and grits. The cocktail and extensive wine list was a huge perk as well. Staff was amazing, attentive, and Chef Dallas even came by the table at the end of the night. Thank you so much for a great experience!
