Yes it is spartan, unassuming. HOWEVER, note the large smokers out front. Full of pork but/shoulder and brisket. Ribs came out a bit earlier.

I ordered ribs years ago and fine but not the best I've had. In recent months we've ordered brisket and it is outstanding! I like very lean BBQ and the brisket is just that and very good!
Once we arrived here from Texas (home of The BBQ Brisket Masters) folks round here told us,” Kentucky doesn’t have any good bbq spots,” and we were just driving through the scenic route and had no intention of eating bbq when My wife swung in here and the pit brewing in front while seeing a wheel barrel full of cherry oak had me a bit open to eating here. Once my wife and I ordered a Sandwich plate to share we said to one another,” Well I guess dem folks ain’t come out here,” being a BBQ connoisseur Who’s smoked thousands of #’s of beef, pork, turkey, and chicken I’m thankful when I want Bbq I got somewhere to come. Thank you, Rachel for the superb service and enlightening us who owns the spot and how it has gotten where it’s at and Jackson for telling us how long they’ve been here and what’s good to eat. We shall return Lord willing #riveroadboutdatbbq from fellow Smoke Patnas from Tejas good job!
Really nice BBQ restaurant. Just had a walk by because of curiosity of the front display of equipment and the smell from the BBQ got me hooked. I ordered the BBQ beans and the large rib plate. It was tender and full of flavor. Beans had brisket meat in it; I think also great choice. Best thing was how the sauce was awesome, great flavor. I should have purchased a bottle to take home. From Cleveland Ohio visiting and I been in Gatlinburg Tennessee for BBQ at Bennett’s but this here place in Louisville to me is in the lead. The only thing I would critic is the sauce is thin, runs off the rib. Awesome flavor but if you thicken it a bit, it be double awesome. Trying to figure what’s in it for my home use. Love it . 5 star and recommend.
Stopped by unexpectedly for something different, tried 2 of their tacos, the Polish link, and the pulled pork, they both come topped with slaw on a corn-based shell, So it was safe for my GF diet restrictions. They were delicious with huge portions and very friendly staff, We ate outside at the really nice picnic tables and enjoyed the smells coming from the huge smoker, we will definitely go back for more tacos
Might be the best brisket in town. Love the way they cut across the grain like big chunks of toast beef. Very moist. Quick service. Picnic tables outside, but I could do without the bees while eating.

everything you find here has a spectacular flavor, my favorite is the pork ribs. always fresh and hot is one of the things I value. excellent hygiene and attention to the public.
Stopped for a quick meal on our way to Nashville. Great BBQ, nice people. Can't ask for more than that...but wait, the potato salad has pickled onions! Delsih! Thank you!
Food is quite good. The only downside is that the register asks for a tip, and, being my first time here I was unaware that the staff actually does nothing to earn a tip. They don't even bring your food or drink to the table. The Cole slaw and potatoe
Stumbled upon River Road BBQ. We got the 50/50 Brisket and pulled pork sandwich, Chopped chicken sandwich, and potato salad. 50/50 was very tasty, chicken was a bit too peppery. Potato salad was ok. Service was friendly and fast.
