With out a doubt this place knocked my socks off. The ramen bowl has given me a new lease on life. I had no idea that there was something so beautiful to be tasted, when all I've ever had was cup o soup. I feel like a North Korean experiencing freedom for the first time. The flavors were so complex and complimentary to one another. Even the to-go packaging was a pleasure to use again. Two grown adults were completely stuffed off of one bowl. But the best part was there was some left over for the next day that may have been more delicious than the previous night. Hands down this should win best restaurant in SLO county. I highly recommend trying it!!!
We were here for the first time tonight and it was excellent. Our waitress Keenan was on point with her recommendation for a ramen bowl. Great food with great service. We will be back.
My husband had ramen and I had simple salmon rolls. It was delicious. The salmon was fresher than most I’ve had. Such a great little find!
Best sushi I’ve had in probably 3 years. I can’t remember where it was better so it might have been further in the past. Well, you know you’re in California when you ask Julia at the ace hardware where the best restaurant is, and she recommends a sushi spot on a side street. I had the special, roll and a bowl. The crunchy eel and the beef ramen more than filled my tank. If you get the chance, this place is a bright spot to experience. The waitress and chef were super friendly and the outdoor patio was decorated artistically. It had enough quirkiness to be considered modern art. Los Osos is a great little town meaning the bears and Kuma is Japanese for bear. Very Californian indeed. Enjoy!
Delicious Ramen. Fun and efficient host. Terrific vibe, decor, and in/out dining options. Afternoon specials and Sake! Yum. Great value.
Wow!
Let me start of with entering into this quaint little joint; the entrance takes you to a back entrance alley greeted by beautiful lights and a decorated patio—filled with the essence of a calm and peaceful Japanese bonsai garden.
Walking into the ordering area, I was greeted by very cordial waiters that showed true personality and sincerity. I then proceeded to order my meal in which free hot tea that is real leaf brewed was included.
The ramen took less than 5 minutes to arrive at our table; nice and warm, I soaked my spoon into what was the most perfect ramen I have had in my life. The broth was salty but not overwhelming and the chicken was tender but not too soft where it falls fully apart.
Moving to the matcha iced tea: WOW! Phenomenal tea, phenomenal food, phenomenal atmosphere and a relatively affordable price.
Lastly, the rolls here were some of the best I have ever had (although my sushi intake is very limited); they use real wasabi not horseradish.
Overall, I was extremely delighted to discover this beautiful Japanese restaurant and will definitely be coming back again.
Not the best ramen in the world but it's quite great 👍 especially considering our other options in the area. Not too pricey and a decent bit of options to choose from, I'll definitely be coming back.
My family and I come as often as we are fiscally allowed. They have awesome ramen and sushi. Here are some of our favorites:
Tonkotsu Ramen with Shoyu Egg , Nori, and Curry Butter- 15 + 4.50 for add-ons
I always think of ordering something different, but this ramen is incredibly satisfying, no matter the weather or season. The broth is very rich and unctuous, the egg is soft boiled so you get the oozing yolk that thickens the broth and coats the noodles. The curry butter adds to the richness and adds a wonderful spice, almost turning the broth into a sauce. Huge flavor and satiation!
Garlic Chip Roll 18
My wife’s favorite and a terrible idea for a first date. Obviously garlic forward, with a great crunch, but the sushi itself is very generous, with tons of tuna and salmon. The sauces on it are not overly sweet and their savoriness compliments the heat of the garlic and sweet/vinegary rice.
Tuna Roll/Salmon Roll 12/9
Simple rolls! Generous dollop of extra fish on top, as well. Clean eating!
Pork Belly Fried Rice 12
My brother-in-laws favorite. Teppanyaki fried rice with another beautiful, sunny side up egg on top. It’s got that liquid yolk that you know and love. Someone told me that people don’t like runny yolks? I’ll pray for them, for healing.
I’ve heard great things about Kuma and finally went to Los Osos to check it out. They did not disappoint. The sushi is extravagant with ingredients that come through as fresh and local. The staff were all lovely and friendly, and they even gave my wife a complimentary green tea ice cream for being a new mother.
Absolutely incredible. 10/10.
Constructive criticism for Kuma - your menu is too complex, you could probably trim 20 items off of it. Your non-alcoholic beverage selection is really bad, maybe get a kombucha on tap!
BEST RAMEN IN THE CENTRAL COAST!
Literally!
Heavenly. We walked in to find a beautiful hidden spot, behind an art gallery. Taj Mahal was on the speakers. The sushi was so good. The pitcher or Asahi hit the spot for the group. We had a great time and got so much food we had to take some of the rolls on ice and eat them. Would not waste a single bite!!! The hibachi was 💯 too. And thanks to our awesome servers, we had a great time.
We always try to make it by here when we r in town. Ramen was excellent. Got all the fixins!
Sushi could have been better. No sauce on it and was very small. But the fish was fresh.👍🏻
