Butter, butter and more butter! That's the key to a great grilled cheese and Chef Greenspan provides the goods.
I've been wanting to try Greenspan's Grilled Cheese for a while now especially after being a fan of Chef Greenspan from The Next Iron Chef. Finally made the trip with a friend to his restaurant.
After arriving, my eyes glanced over the description of The Champ grilled cheese and I was sold. I enjoyed the sweet of the apricot that smoothly transitions into savory with the short rib meat and taleggio cheese. Also, the butter! The raisin walnut bread used for this sandwich was perfectly grilled and buttery. The fries that I ordered along with them were simply delicious. I'm not sure what type of potatoes were used nor what oil was used to fry these but it was damn good and none greasy.
The Classic was also ordered. My friend stated we couldn't go there without trying a classic grilled cheese from the chef and he was right. White bread and American cheese, sweet & simple. This was a fine example of the simplest concepts being the best. Buttery with a nice crunch. Just as a grilled cheese should be.
Checked in and received a free Smores sandwich. It goes without saying that this gooey melted chocolate and marshmallow treat was delicious. I also ran into Chef Greenspan in the hallway leading to his other restaurant and got to shake his hand, cool guy.
This place is great for any grilled cheese fan whether it be a classic or any of the other selections. Bring on the butter!

I first met Eric Greenspan at Duff’s CakeMix, the night Joy and I won a Cake Decorating Competition. That’s where I first ate his award-winning Grilled Cheese Sandwich, which now has a permanent home on Melrose. The sandwich has made friends too. Choose from a set menu, or DIY.
Got take out from here twice and all I can say is what a delight this place is and a great addition to our neighborhood. It doesn't have to be a rainy day to grab a cup of tomato soup and a stuffed grilled cheese! Id eat here any night of the week (if I also wanted to live at the gym too! lol)
But for now I'll leave this as my chest treat when I want some delicious comfort food

Besides the grilled cheese sandwiches, the next best thing on the menu are the coveted potato Latke Bites with an Apple Creme Fraiche dipping sauce ($3.25). Oh man! There was a lot of time and effort in making this Latkes fresh by hand and plenty of waiting time for them to fry up and get to you, but I tell ya, these Latkes are worth every minute to wait for. They’re deliciously crisp on outside, tender and juicy in the inside. The sauce adds a refreshing flavor too. - See more at: http://www.tastychronicles.com/post/83983079771/the-melt-master-opens-greenspans-grilled-cheese#sthash.UpslNudc.dpuf
