Review Mel's Fish Shack - Los Angeles

Steven Pastores
Mel’s offers delicious fish and seafood fried to your liking. The portions are generous for one and their collard greens and hush puppies stand out as far as their side dishes go. They also provide a couple of nice garnishes like hot peppers and pickles. Well worth it to support this black owned business!

My friend and I had heard great things about Mel’s but somehow had never tried it, so we gave it a shot tonight and were not disappointed. The staff is unbelievably friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. We ordered there and it took a minute to prepare, but it was well worth the wait. The prices are great for the size of the meals and everything we had was delicious and tasted fresh. I’d highly recommend the fried filet of sole and peach cobbler. Do yourself a favor and stop by and grab a great dinner for you and your friends/family.

I’ve never given a 1 star to a restaurant. I called ahead for my delivery and made sure they included extra tartar, they’re very friendly and the tartar sauce was edible. I honestly can’t say the rest of it was. The fish and shrimp was undercooked and clearly cooked in old, dirty oil. It tasted burnt because of the dirty oil yet was soggy and slimy. What a combination of flavors. Not to mention there was SO MANY bones in the fish. So. Many. The sides were equally atrocious and even the hush puppies were gross because again, burnt dirty oil. The onion rings, which were clearly purchased from the smart and final up the street, were the highlight of the meal, despite - you guessed it - also having been cooked in dirty oil. 1/10. Would give a 0 if I could.

Best fish restaurant on Pier 39! The Ahi was to die for! The lobster tails were meaty not tiny little tails. The bread was to die for and the service was impeccable. I will say the lady in the front shirt with black hair was not all that nice but i can understand dealing with tourist all day can be tough! 10/10 will come back next year! Keep up the good work!

Seafood and the setting at this location is excellent. I give this place double thumbs up. Looking forward to returning with my relatives. They have a lot of good reviews for a reason.

Great Sunday dinner with a view of the harbor! Appetizers were delicious - crab cakes and shrimp cocktail. Mixed grill entree was fantastic. Grilled shrimp, pacific cod, and grilled salmon. Would highly recommend Fog Harbor. The best meal we had during our visit.

Came here on a date with my boyfriend, stunning view. Delicious food had some pasta and a clam chowder in the bread bowl with lobster on top. If you don't have clam chow when you come to CA it's like you didn't come lol.
