Review Hatch - Los Angeles

My friend loves this place and promised me I would love it as well and she was right on the money. We had dinner here after seeing a movie at the Alamo as it’s located in the same building. I’m gonna do a repeat of this sequence. We sat outside to enjoy the warm evening and people watch in the building courtyard. Everyone who works at Hatch, from the host to our server to the manager were so warm and friendly, knowledgeable about the food and drinks, had excellent recommendations and helped create a super delightful and delicious dining experience for us. Every. Single. Thing. we ordered was absolutely delicious, from the variety of skewers to the dishes we shared. The cocktails were made and mixed beautifully, with unique combinations of flavors that made my mouth sing. I appreciated the attention to detail on the presentation of the dishes and cocktails. I think my favorite skewer was the chicken meatball (comes with a soy sauce egg yolk to dip in and it’s divine) so make sure to order that. The fried chicken with squid ink batter was so delicious and unique as well. Like I said, everything was so good, and looking forward to coming back here many more times to sample more of the drinks and food menu.

The servers here were very friendly and quick to take away empty plates. The bone marrow was seasoned just right so that it wasn't too salty, paired well with the mochi chips. Corn fritter/tempura was very crunchy and the green sauce helped lighten it up. Oysters were very fresh but smaller than I was expecting. Would come back again to try their yakitori items. They also did validate (discount) the parking.

so so yummy, the eel was so fatty and delicious with the seared sunflower seeds to add a nice crunch! the chicken negi was good, but the beef tongue was so thick and juicy! Veg were well seasoned and charred, not too oily which is appreciated, and karaage very solid.

Had a great experience here last night. Nice vibes and excellent food. I was living in East Asia the last 15 years, so I would regularly frequent izakayas in Seoul and also been to Japan several trips. I was surprised at how good the food was here, some of the best yakitori I've had. The service was excellent and I recommend trying everything you can. My favorite was probably the beef tongue. Highly recommended

Came here for dinner on a Friday night, super crowded and the line was out the door. They don't do reservations but the wait time was roughly 45 minutes for a table for two. This is located on the first level of The Bloc so you can walk around or sit and chill near the lawn. The vibe here is bougie and chill lounge/bar you'd typically see in the DTLA area. The cuisine here is Japanese but I'm not sure it's all that authentic. I ordered the charcoal KaraAge chicken and the Miso Pork spare ribs to share, they were just ok. I also tried the Black Fried Rice, it's not bad. I did enjoy the beef tongue. I also had the Yuzu highball, fairly refreshing. Btw, they have an extensive selection of Japanese Highball (whiskey) and sake here, worth checking out. They play loud clubbing music all night so it's super hard to hear the person seated across from you. This place is named named Hatch 🐣 so they must be famous for their "Eggcellent" bentos...

Deliciously funky food in a non competitive location I came in here for a happy hour before watching a film at Alamo in the same plaza. I was always curious about eating at Hatch, and I truly do regret all the times I didn't go here and grab food before the movie. Squid Ink Karaage (9/10) This back fried chicken is just exquisite. While the portion may be a little small, every bite was marvelous. The chicken was perfectly pink and tender, and was brined to the exemplary amount where the chicken was juicy, but not over seasoned. The squid ink gave some funk to every bite, and yet it was still crispy and felt nostalgic as good old fashioned fired chicken. The chef also slid over a spicy orange sauce that complemented the chicken very well Wasabi Beef Short Ribs (9l10) These short ribs were so yummy. I was a little concerned with the name since I think wasabi is usually a very overpowering flavor profile, but when I saw the thin piece of meat being pink and still in the bone, I was pumped to take my first bite. The result was a very delicious texture that had all sorts of sauces and seasonings that were part of it, but nothing that overstayed its welcome. The short ribs were a welcome surprise that had punch as a beef happy hour item. Fancy Fries (8/10) The potatoes wedges were definitely good, having plenty of seasoning including some green slice (rosemary I think?). The potatoes came out really hot so I had to wait a few minutes to truly enjoy them, and after a few minutes I really liked them. It also includes a chipotle aioli sauce that cooled them down and provided some more yum to the experience Overall, I was very satisfied with my experience at Hatch. It is a smaller place, but I definitely had great service and the food came out fast and was delicious.

It's rare to see a group of team members so focused on their customers. It was really refreshing. Enjoyed the food, too, especially the daily special, duck breast with mashed potatoes.

Just had lunch here. Basically EVERYTHING about the meal was perfect. Fantastic staff, incredibly well balanced flavors - had spare ribs, karaage, corn and mushroom yakitori- and really great, understated vibe. But the cocktails sealed the deal - they were absolutely next level. Can't wait to go back!

Absolutely amazing food. Very flavourful and thoughtful plating. Their hot sauce is a game changer, not too hot and really brings out the flavour. Would have taken more/better photos but we couldn’t contain ourselves!
