Review Chowder Barge - Los Angeles

Chowder definitely brought my memory back from Pike Place, Seattle. Their chowder was on point. Burger + Chowder was definitely interesting combo. But I wouldn’t eat it everyday haha I think it was just too heavy (duh). We also got the fisherman’s platter, which was definitely worth it!!! Overall vibe was very chill and relaxing even when the whole place is not as big. All people working there are super duper kind!!! I would definitely recommend ordering a side of salad though.

This is a great place to enjoy a bowl of chowder. We joined friends here and really enjoyed it. I downgraded it to a 4 ⭐️ just due to the chowder being only warm. Chowder should be hot. This place is clean and decorated nicely. It is kind of hidden here and not an easy find unless you are in the marina for some reason. If your in the area don’t hesitate. Lots of meal choices and most should find something they will like. The chowder was great just not hot enough. Hopefully next time cuz we will be back.

Great little restaurant in a hard to reach location. Well worth the trip. The chowder bread bowls are delicious. The fish and chips very good. The atmosphere tied it all together. Pretty sure you'll be making your way back often.

Dining on the water in a nicely decorated restaurant, eating fabulous clam chowder. Complete win! Waited way to long to try this spot, but it lived up to all the good reviews.

This place is a hidden gem, the clam chowder was delicious and the Salmon and swordfish hit the spot. Excellent service and the location is unique. Keep up the excellent meals and customer service.

Hands down, by a mile, best clam chowder I have ever ever had. I even used my fish from fish and chips to whipe the bowl clean! Ifnits your first time, do the Chowder! Will be back for more. Also had the fish and chips. They were pretty good. Crispy and plenty of fish. Also recommended.

My 5 yo niece had space to color while I sucked down a delicious, two-handed Michelada, and then we shared a bread bowl of the most delicious clam chowder I think I’ve ever had. It was during the busy lunch rush, so we waited about 25 mins for our table, but that was expected and the staff was extremely kind. Also, bonus, cats! DO IT.

This place is awesome. It's a very unique atmosphere. Servers were good, and they were busy. Chowder was good, don't order the bread bowl, its an illusion, the bread is t really hollowed out, order the 16 oz bowl of soup for 6 bucks cheaper. The beer is pretty cheap. My ice tea was good. The fried clams and calamari were disappointing, but everything else was good ( obviously pre packaged, the clams are bellies but strips and the calamari was super chewy rings, not rings and tentacles, it was cheap fast food quality. Like maybe getting fried calamari from Sonic ). Go check this place out and you will see why it's worth it.

It’s a barge on the water They have chowder. You could stop right there and have a 3 star meal. But Chowder Barge goes further. First, the chowder is great. Just the right consistency, the chunks are just right. Add a touch of Tabasco and it’s nearly perfect. The platter of fried stuff was all perfectly fried goodness. But the main even , no doubt, is the Chowder Burger. It seems like it’s going to be an insane plate of decadence but my friend and I each had no problem devouring one. The burger is well charred and maybe even has bacon in the patty? The bun is just right to stand up to but still soak up the chowder the burger is swimming in. The decor is exactly what you imagine it should be and hits the mark dead on, especially the fireplace of human skulls. Argh. Our waitress was great and kept our coffee and ice tea refilled without being asked. I hope the barge gets to stay where it is. It’s a singular place and experience.

Great local find! As a chowder house, your chowder should be spot on ... and it was. Fair prices and generous serving sizes. My 11 y/o had the Chowder Burger, a novelty with a cheeseburger drowning in a bowl of Chowder. Surprisingly good! My first time and I'll be back next time I'm in town.

Wonderful experience sitting outside on the patio on a windy day looking at boats and passing clouds. Service was warm and friendly. Fish and chips were piping hot and crispy. The triple chowder burger had a well toasted bun, perfectly slightly pink charred patty, flavorful chowder and tasty fried clams. On another day I'll have to enjoy a well priced beer Total hidden gem tucked into the marina. Great wood heating inside

I went there because of the good reviews. 5 Stars for the special location next to the harbor within a marina, something you don't see every day. 5 Stars for the very good service, had a short talk to the people before getting a seat. Was there for the fish & chips because of the community. But you really should try the Chowder. As a German, I didn't know what it is. Got a spoon full to taste -> ordered it without hesitation. I was a little bit cold and this was the perfect food to warm up (5 stars). However, because I had the Chowder before I'll not rate the fish & chips.

A hidden gem if ever there was one! Located in a tiny marina tucked away next to Henry Ford road in the shadow of the new freeway and railroad bridges is this floating converted barge. Atmosphere for years and some of the most extremely eclectic decor to be found anywhere. Menu has a decent variety, and the food is amazingly delicious. We had a waitress with a great sense of humor that made for one of the best experiences. Surrounded by windows you can see so many boats just bobbing in the harbor and that is a unique experience in itself. This place is a must visit. You may have seen it in some TV shows over the years, most recently Stranger things shot and episode here.

Best clam chowder I've ever had. Very peaceful place to have brunch; the weekend rush comes in around 11am so you may want to order before then.

Just go and experience it - the Chowder Barge is one of the most precious, unique, and fun experiences around. Don’t let the industrial surroundings of the port and marina turn you off; the area is very safe. In addition to great food, amazing staff, and an atmosphere like no other, there is great train watching available from the tables facing the railroads.

Super casual place and gets pretty busy. The chowder burger was really good. I thought it might just be a gimmick, but it was actually delicious. I've been here for chowder before, so I already knew that was good. The burger just had cheese on it. Bomb dignity. We also had the onion rings and a chili dog, those were good too. Definitely recommend trying this place.

A nice little out of the way place. Good seafood if that's what you're looking for. Nice bar inside. Outside seating a nice atmosphere especially at sunset.

Originally came down to Long Beach to go to the san pedro fish market but it ended up being so packed. I came to this little hole in the wall spot and man their clam chowder is killer! It is loaded and the fried fish just pairs perfectly with it. I definitely reccomend this seafood spot if you're looking for a hole in the wall spot

This place is definitely a hidden gem. I've worked in and around this area for the past 15 years and I never knew this place existed. Such a cool atmosphere, great attentive staff, beer prices that can't be beat and the most phenomenal clam chowder we've ever experienced!!

Great little place hidden at the end of the travelled water way in LA Harbor. Good service and great food. They only have one- yes one guest dock at the end of the dock- kind of sucks when you come all the way from Newport or Marina Del Rey and it takes 30 minutes to get to it from open water only to find the guest slip occupied. But other than that it is a great place even if you end up driving there in your car.

This place...a treasure. The kind I live for, gems tucked into our communities. Love everything about it - the location on the water, port/tiki/funky decor, the great food, $3.75 wine by the glass. I had clam chowder, fish and chips YUM. A very special place.

Great food, ice cold beer and soda, easy going staff. One of T?HEE most unique places that you will ever go to, right in the middle of the Leeward Bay Marina in Wilmington. So many places spend untold amounts of money, trying to replicate, what this place naturally offers. Old nautical décor, that most likely, came from the local boat owners...of which...you are surrounded by boats!Food: Fish and Chips are great and the clam chowder is as well. The burgers and chili is...oh hell...all the food id good there. A Great place to just walk in with your t-shirt, shorts and sandals, have some good food, and feel the breezes blow through the joint. Prices are good as well...

Great little place that is tucked away from the mainstream. The service is outstanding. The price of the food is very reasonable and of course the clam chowder is the best. All of the staff a very friendly.

Cool and relaxing place to eat and think on the floating restaurant. Wonderful service . Recommend the clam chowder . Chili beans in a sourdough bowl is a close second place . Along side with the CAPTAIS MUG of course .
Jeff Zabludoff
Anthony Bourdain and Charles Bukowski would have loved this place.

We shared a bowl of clam chowder and fish and chips! Both were very good! We will definitely go back! Lots of memorabilia on the walls!

Hidden and unassuming. Had Bread Bowl Chowder and bbq wings. Both were delicious. Premium bottle of beer for $4....sweeeeet.

We eat here about twice a month. When sailing back from the island we sometimes sail straight to their dock and tie up for dinner. Always a treat.
