What? Not 5 stars? I had tuna sushi special and it was four pieces of heavenly rice balls. Toro, blue fin tuna, tuna, and yellow fin. However, beef sukiyaki was sub par. Probably nobody ever ordered it. The portion was large and the staffs were attentive and friendly. Water was free, but hot tea was $2. I found meter parking right outside but it could be tricky to find one on weekdays.

One of the best japanese restaurant I have ever tried! Generous portions and great staff!

Great place! Not so great price!
The food is excellent, but it's not worth what you paid for. Their selection is fantastic and their sushi is really good, but it's nothing super amazing to the point of I'd be here every day for lunch. If it was, I'd be broke.
The atmosphere is excellent, and the service is great! I rank 5 stars alone just based on those criteria, but it's the food:price ratio that takes away just one star. It's a great restaurant, but I feel they charge just a little too much for what you get .

Been going here for 35 years. The owner, Jay, is a hard working sweetheart. Always great food and sushi. Lots of tables too. So if you're with a big group this will work for you. Main sushi chef is really over the top profane at times so be advised he's not for everyone.

Tiger is the funniest sushi chef in town. The other chefs are fabulous and kind! The waitresses are warm and friendly. If you buy all of them a round of drinks, the party is on!! Not to mention its the oldest sushi bar on the Westside so they get the best fish! And their portions are huge. So much fun!

I got to be there for the last two days of Kifune. I had never eaten there before but on the last days, it was packed. There was no empty space to walk through when we got there.
What I learned was that people had been coming there for over 20 years. Many people spending their anniversaries or birthdays there.
It was a sad and truly legendary moment.

AMAZING SUSHI & QUALITY OF FISH! I have never tasted fish this fresh. I highly recommend the spicy yellowtail roll, spicy tuna roll, garlic edamame, toro sashimi is BUTTER in your mouth. Prices are a little more but is definitely worth it for the quality and service. I will not eat sushi anywhere else after being spoiled by Kifune! Sit at the sushi bar & the chef will make you different things to try (:

After all these years ...there is a reason it's still here. Washington blvd is always turning over but KIFUNE lives on!
Quality fish and the price is right- no fancy presentation needed.
Happy hour rocks- 6.50 for a large hot saki
The bar gets crackin with locals and the sushi chefs thoroughly enjoy the company and ensure everyone has a good time. Smiles around

It's been a few years since I've eaten at Kifune, only because we don't live anywhere near the place and driving all the way across the city for sushi is nuts... not that I haven't done it before.
The quality of food has always been terrific. They usually had toro--which most sushi bars in my area don't have, the stinking bastards--they had the best oyster shooters, soft shell crabs and lobster dynamite that I've ever had and the sushimen were always a ton of fun, especially when I got them drunk on sake (a thing I strongly recommend: you get HUGE servings that way). Everything I've tried was delicious except for the uni--but that wasn't their fault: uni is disgusting.
Here's a fun story: one time my friend Tom and I drove to Kifune for dinner, we found it closed for a private party held by Michael Jackson (or so it was rumored). And before we could become very disappointed, the maitre d pointed out a fleet of limos parked outside and said that they would take us to another sushi bar clear across town in Hollywood (one with prices and food comparable to Kifune). So we got all liquored up in the limo on Mr. Jackson's dime, had a terrific meal and got drunk once again coming home... then had to find a coffee shop so I could sober up before driving home. God, that had to have been well over 30 years ago.
Good times!

Sushi was awesome!!! Thick, thick cuts on a glorious bed of rice. The baby octopus appetizer was super tasty. Highly recommend this place.

We sat at the Sushi bar...Great Experience! The food was exquisite.
It was expensive, but we got exactly what we were looking for, a memorable eating experience.
Thank you! We'll be back when we're back in L.A.

Good food, poor service. The food was pretty good. The sushi rolls and the tempura veggies were all very good. The salad and soup was average. The wait staff ignored us for long periods and complained about splitting the check for two people even though they happily split the check for the rest of the table. Not worth it, I'm sure there are better sushi restaurants in the area.

Good food but don't go near the bar lounge.. I've been eating at Kifune for about 15 years and the food is mostly always good and consistent. However, I urge those who simply want a dining experience to stay away from the bar lounge area as it often gets very rowdy and unruly with regulars who use it as their nightly drinking watering hole.

Tasty. The atmosphere is rather unassuming, but the food is excellent. The tempura is nice and light and the quality of the fish used in the sushi was excellent.

Seaweed Salad – so fresh, crisp, and just FULL of flavor. It’s tangy, and has the perfect balance of citrus, sweet, and savory. Just out of this world.

Every time we’d go for a walk, we’d pass by Kifune. It’s a very unassuming japanese place on the corner with no windows. To me, there’s always something a little amiss about a place with absolutely no windows. As if they don’t want you to see what’s insid
