Review El Cochinito Restaurant - Los Angeles

Really cute atmosphere of a hole in the wall type of restaurant but with some solid and good Cuban food and sides. I had the Cubano which was just a Cuban sandwich but ingredients were fresh and solid. I enjoyed my experience there. Would definitely be coming back

100/10. Every single time I’ve been here it’s like a trip to my childhood, back to my grandmas house. The food is so flavorful in all the right ways, it’s not the typical comercial flavor or dishes, these taste homemade and made with love, it’s a warm hug to my heart. And the people are so nice and welcoming, will be returning there forever until the end of times If this is your first time eating there I recommend for you to get “ropa vieja” and PLEASE get the “arroz con leche (rice pudding)” and “flan” they’re all to die for

Small hole in the wall that has some good gems on the menu. Their ham croquetas might be the best I’ve ever eaten. An absolute must-try starter. Papas frites were better than I expected! Reminds me of just good burger joint fries. The cubano was fantastic. From the perfectly buttered and toasted bread to the delicious ingredients on the inside, I understand why this is their staple. I do have to say I was very unimpressed with their breaded chicken dish. The pollo empanizado was very bland and dry. I had to add a lot of sauce to get through it. I do not recommend this dish. Other than that I was a fan of everything else at this spot.

Absolutely delicious. Forgive me for not knowing the names…we were quickly sat after being greeted by super friendly staff. Water and bread was our first taste of the freshness of this wonderful restaurant. I chose the “fried rice” with ham, shrimp and other deliciousness. Yummmmm. The slow roasted pork was just as amazing. Highly recommend these dishes. I have enough for two meals too! Fantastic find!

The best Cuban food I have had in Los Angeles. I was raised in San Diego, so Cuban food is a bit newer to me than other cuisines, like Mexican, or seafood, but over the last decade or so, I have really grown to love it. It’s really small and quaint on the inside and admittedly parking can be a pain considering the parking lot in front is always filled with cars, but it’s worth the journey. We parked in the neighborhood behind the restaurant although you can find street parking depending on the time you go. Our server was really polite and they have a ton of authentic and delicious items on the menu. The Cuban sandwich here is even better than Porto’s, which is another I really enjoy. I start off with the Jamon Croquettas and really enjoyed them. Not too crispy and filled with flavor. For my starter I chose the Chicken Noodle Soup which was absolutely delicious. Really hit the spot on a cold day like today and it was extremely fair price for $5. Finding things fair in price in Los Angeles is a rare thing so I appreciated that. The broth was drinkably good and you can tell it’s made over the course of many hours due to how much flavor is in it. For my entrée, I chose the Medianoche Cuban Sandwich (the special) and thought it was amazing. As mentioned, I enjoyed it more than Porto’s. I definitely plan to be back in the near future to get it again. I also suggest getting the Iron Beer Soda. It’s a spiced Cola that tastes really similar to RC Cola, and was a pleasant surprise. Overall delicious Cuban food and I would easily suggest it to any fan of a good meal or Cuban cuisine.

I finally found a Cuban restaurant that is authentic! My Cuban heart is happy! My only minor disappointment is the Ropa Vieja. The flank steak was good except it was too watery. There should barely be any sauce at all and definitely the sauce is thicker - more flavorful onto the actual steak itself. Also, plantains traditionally come with the entree rather than a side dish. With that said, I will be returning and this is now my spot for great Cuban food! Thank you!!

We love this place! The food is absolutely amazing. We love the chicken soup and slow roasted pork, and the favor of cubano sandwiches is perfectly balanced.

I was brought here by a friend and walked away having had one of the best meals of my life. We had the chicken, pork, side orders of plantains and an appetizer of a dipping sauce that was similar to hummus. I was floored and the rich flavors of my pork, perfectly cooked, juicy and tender. The interplay of the rice, beans, yucka, and plantains was on another level. I’m able to clear nearly any sized meal, but I was stuffed about 1/2 way through. The portions are ridiculous! :) DEFINITELY order your rice and beans cooked in the pot with the meal and order a side of plantains.

Thank you very much like always. The food delicious and it’s very authentic. The servers are very friendly and know how to offer new food. The wine selection is great as well.

Was driving in LA and my mother in law wanted to take me to one of her favorite place. My first time here and definitely will not be my last! The minute we walked in until the minute we walked out was a wonderful experience. The guy who helped was so attentive and sweet. The food was amazing. The best coffee by far!! And great portions for the price! I couldn't even finish my sandwich. Love this place

I had been craving a Cubano sandwich and was near this place when lunch rolled around so I gave it a try. There is decent parking (for lunch at least). Their converted patio made for a nice place to sit. And the Cubano sandwich I had was excellent. They have a nice menu and if I wasn't looking for a lighter lunch I would have tried some sides or even a plate. I'd like to visit again.

The restaurant has been open since 1988! That should already tell you how iconic the spot it. Despite that I went first time last night! And God..the food was so good. We ordered the breaded chicken breast and roasted chicken...yum!!! The crew is super super nice and they give you their best recommendations. Also, cute little restaurant. No so many tables and the place is quite popular, so try to make a reservation if possible

I’m pretty sure this is the best meal I’ve ever had. My partner couldn’t believe the faces I was making while eating the slow roasted pork. We went back a second time for Cubano sandwiches and both times were incredible. Like not over exaggerated, legit incredible. I’m glad I stumbled upon this place.

Never had a bad dish here. My favorites includes the house specialty (ropa vieja) with a side of sweet plantains and their Cuban sandwich.

I had the ox tail (Rabo encendido). It's a special (probably a weekend only entree) that isn't normally on the menu, I can only assume it's too popular because of the demand. It's one of the best ox tails I've had, if not the best. The meat was rich, tender, and full of flavor. Don't skip out on trying the stew it's served in with a spoon full of rice. This dish is for ppl who love rich dishes. Yes, it might look greasy, but you can skim it out....or not. I've only had one dish from here, but I'll recommend this place. It's a small location, so either come with your SO or a friend who loves to try out new cuisine. Don't forget to reserve ahead of time too!

Cute decor, great food and plenty leftovers 😋. Really enjoyed fried rice, both beef n chicken steaks and croquettes.

One of the best sandwiches I’ve had in LA. The most tender pork you could imagine nestled between two slices of toasted bread and baked plantains mixed in. Simple dish, amazing result. Their flan was also stupendous with a hint of burnt sugar, just the way it should be. Would definitely return!

Too much salt.. Chicken soup, fried plantains and avocado salad are about the only safe plates there, try the roasted pork and you are in for a heart attack.

Authentic. Well I don't nomally eat Cuban food, because and I eat it every day. But I must say that this place is very good! The simple truth is that I can't find anything wrong with the food, I mean my wife, mother and grandmother are incredible cooks. SO when I eat Cuban food I have something great to comapre the food to, but this place surpasses all my expectations. If you really want to taste exellent Cuban authentic food, this is the place!!

The best Cuban Food I have ever had. Great value and great taste. Try the Paella, Pechuga de Pollo empanizada, plantains AKA maduros, and a malt. Let's judge the food and not minor misunderstandings.

It's the best food I ever tasted in a restaurant. I never knew Cuban food could be so delicius.the only complaint I got was that dec 31 2009 my family and I were craving this food.we called in around 4:30 wile we where in the crowed 5 fwy , I asked the person who awnsered if we still had time to eat.he replyed that as long we got in before 5pm we could still eat.we got there 15 min before 5 and the door was locked.I called them again and they replayed that they couldn't Serve the paella rice any more because he didn't checked with the cook.I understand it was new years eve.but they should had told me they couldn't feed us to begin with.

I'm from Miami aka Little Cubai and I have to say the best Cuban restaurant is not in Miami but in LA at the cochinito. I've been coming here for 20 years everytime I visit and it is by far the best Cuban food. Rice and beans, breaded steak, pork, plantains, EVERYTHING is amazing and authentic. Defintely the place to go for home-cooked Cuban food
