Review Sun Nong Dan - Los Angeles

Rose Peterson
Sun Nong Dan is a must-visit in LA! The Galbi Jjim is a saucy, cheesy, savory delight—perfectly shareable among 2-3 people. Generous portions, delectable sides, and our server, provided exceptional service, making our dining experience top-notch by cutting the meat off the bones, packaging the food for us, and being very quick. Kudos to the entire staff for their quick and attentive assistance. This place ensures a full and happy experience every time!

No trip to LA is complete without a stop to Sun Nong Dan! This is one of my all time favorite restaurants in the Ktown area. The food here is so delicious and filling that it’s worth the drive out. The signature item to get is the Galbi Jjim. It’s an amazing combination of saucy, cheesy, savory goodness. The portions are huge and you can split one with 2-3 people. Make sure to add the cheese and trice cakes in. Not only are their entrees amazing but the side dishes are all top notch and the sizes are super generous. Service here is the best, Josh our server went above and beyond with everything and we left feeling full and happy. Kudos to the entire staff for the quick and attentive help through the entire meal!

This is a must visit for Korean Restaurant. Try their Galbi with cheese! You will taste of heaven, juicy and tender short ribs!

Small place with limited seating but they fitted us in, which was a party of 8. They made us order first and was a little rude about it, but I saw that it might be needed with how some other customers were acting. Good portions for the most part. Although half of our 8 were children, we took a ton of leftovers home but probably would have barely finished even with all adults. Good flavor with the Galbi Jjim, but one of the soups was a bit bland. Parking is a pain, even with the $4 valet parking offered in that lot (can't self park).

The soup options are really good. Different options to suit different palates. I got the #2 and my husband got #9. The #9 was delicious. The #2 took a bit of work. Needed more salt and some additions. The banchan was pretty okay. I enjoyed the kimchi but not the other options.

Koreatown was poppin' lol. My friends and I came here on a Thursday for dinner around 6:30 or 7 PM. We looked at the menus and decided on Sun Nong Dan, which was super busy given the time of evening. I ordered the hot stone bibimbap, one of my favorite go-to Korean entrees. One of my friends was vegetarian so they gladly swapped out the ground beef in her bibimbap for tofu. While the food was great, I will say the service was quite slow. Besides that, valet parking was only $5 so definitely super convenient given that there was nowhere to park.

Went in early in the morning & ordered some very yummy recommendations from one of the servers. We got the #7 & # 12. Both were very delicious & flavorful. Would 100% recommend it.

First time here and we got seated relatively quickly. We didn’t know anything about the menu but going off other reviews we went with Galbi Jim with cheese (you have to get it with cheese, trust) and the Beef short rip soup. Service was fast, we got the appetizers in no time, toasted some beer with Mike and zoey the waiter came in with the hot plate. And it was a show once the fireworks came out (that is,f you got the cheese option). I recommend this spot if you never been or want to try something new, ask for Mike

The food here NEVER misses. The galbijim is the dish I always take my friends and family to try for the first time. Thanks Mike for taking good care of our table. Best food and service 👍🏼🔥🥩🍚🍻

Absolutely delicious, we devoured the galbi-jjim with cheese. Probably the best Korean food I’ve had in North America. Jackie provided us with awesome service which we really appreciated. Thanks for having us! Will definitely visit again. 10/10!

The absolute best Korean meal I've ever had. Great service. Amazing food! We arrived at 5:15pm and there was no wait. By 6pm the line was starting to form but it seemed to move quickly.

Went here twice a week when visiting LA because their food were so good! Get their mo deum soo yook if you’re looking for a comforting, humble soup. Might adjust S&P to your likings tho. Also its a must to get their galbi jjim (with cheese!). Delicious. Meat were tender, the potatoes, carrots, and topokki complement each other and their sauce was so flavorful! Everything were perfectly paired with their in house kimchis selections. A must eat when you’re in LA!

What a delightful find! The service at this Korean restaurant was incredibly warm and welcoming. They took the time to explain the menu and ensure we had an enjoyable experience. And the food! Each dish was a masterpiece - the kimchi stew had just the right amount of spice, and the BBQ was a sizzling sensation. The ambiance was cozy, making it a perfect spot for a romantic dinner. I can't recommend this place enough!

Simply amazing. The best beef stew I ever had. The soup was so tasty and beef very naturally flavored and delicious. The service and entrees were also very good. The price also very decent for the food quality. Will go back if come to LA. Highly recommended

this is such a fun place to go to with a group of friends. must try #7 and 25 (with cheese of course). parking is valet/$4

The wait was around an hour long (probably because it's the weekend of Anime Expo right now) at 8pm and the crowd was even bigger after we finished eating. The food was really good though. I definitely recommend the galbi jjim with cheese and rice cakes if you have around 5 people for a large. For soups, the galbi tang and oxtail soup with beef brisket were both really good. I recommend the galbi tang more if you are looking for a more flavorful soup.

Awesome place for their traditional offerings! The line could be long during meal hours but the it's worth the wait, always!

Service is exceptional! The staff are friendly and attentive. Its a very busy place but the staff makes sure that customers are taken care of. Food is awesome, the galbi jjim is soooo good that I make sure I come to this place when I'm in LA ❤️

Went there with my bosses and a good friend. For a birthday Lunch. One of my bosses is Korean so the experience was great he taught us all the proper way to eat each dish. The True treat for sure was The large size galbijjim bubbling in a cast iron cauldron. We got cheese on top of it. The waiter melts it for you right at the table. The fall off the bone short ribs were so delicious.

We got there around 11 PM and still waited for our table as it was full house. The mozzarella cheese 🧀 was a special attraction as well as additional taste to the tender and tasty beef we had. Liked it!

Great food and service. This place is ranked #37 on Jonathan Gold’s 101 Best Restaurants

It wasn’t what I expected... soups were over seasoned a little too salty but the chives kimchi was good

May be the best restaurant in koreatown, LA right now. Make sure to get mozzarella cheese on your galbijjim!

it was a very nice surprise for our family dinner in L. A.. The large size galbijjim bubbling in a cast iron couldron was really a treat. I love the fall off the bone short ribs, rice cakes and the balanced sweet and spicy sauce. Kimchi was also very good. I just wish they find a bigger place to accomodate their patrons who were all waiting outside in the cold night and made it for the ones dining feel hurried up with their meal.

I'm assuming this place is a victim of its own success. We went by this place earlier in the evening and it was pretty packed. Even when we came in on a Tuesday night at 2am, it was still pretty busy. We both got the tendon soup aka Do Ga Ni Tang (도가니탕). The food came out rather quickly, but we quickly noticed the color of the soup was rather clear. We took a quick taste and could immediately tell they had not cooked it nearly long enough. Maybe they didn't expect the crowd they had earlier and ran out of their soup, but you shouldn't just dump a bunch of water, boil it for a little bit then serve it. Also, for a price that is almost double other places, I expected much better.

Just stop...I can’t even say words of awesomeness

So good I couldn't believe it. Only downside is that its pricey

Amazing restaurant with great quality food. My favorite is the Brisket Combo with the Spicy Beef Soup. Hits the spot every time!

The food was delicious the only problem was that I'm Hispanic and all the other Korean people that got there AFTER ne got served before me.. When we were finally starving and decided to say something 1:30 later, the younger waitress was really nice. She gave us our order quick.

Good foot, and good service, we are going back very soon.
