This is my go-to when returning to LA, right by LAX (Shen the street from the Parking Spot Sepulveda). Surprisingly quality sushi on its daily special menu. Don't expect much atmosphere.

Great quality Japanese food. If you sit at the bar you can watch them make the sushi. My date and I were mesmerized as we watched the process, with the chef artfully preparing the sushi dishes. Good combo of authentic Japanese food and also westernized Japanese food.
We ordered the deep fried gyoza, and deep fried salmon roll appetizer to start. Then we ordered a spicy salmon roll which wasn't on the menu but they made it anyway, and then we shared a spicy miso ramen.
The ramen was delicious, broth was good, the pork slices were soft, and my date enjoyed the pork even though she doesn't normally like the pork. I also ordered their Japanese beer on special that day. Perfect pair for the food.
For dessert we ordered matcha mochi ice cream that paired well with the sliced strawberries.
Overall 8.75/10. Would order the ramen again.

Sushi here was great - quality was pretty high and portion size was good. A bit pricey but understandable with the proximity to the airport. Parking can be hard to find as well so plan carefully.

This is a fun place to be, clearly with izakaya vibe. Very close to the airport. The large collection of alcohol if you'd like and the food is quite decent! We got sashimi prepared with various sauces, not so traditional but it is good. They also have grilled dishes and ramen for those who need heavier food as well.

Food is delicious and fresh. Price is a bit high but fair for the quality and portion. A huge parking lot behind the restaurant. So no problem finding a parking. However, there's no sign at the back of the restaurant on the parking lot side. So it will be hard to find the restaurant if not on Sepulveda Blvd. Our waiter was nice. I didn't give a 5 star rating because the restaurant wasn't very clean. The windows to the street probably haven't been cleaned for weeks. The dining furniture was overall sticky and the flooring not clean either. Again, food is good.

Great food. Our server was so nice and attentive. I really enjoyed the food here. I appreciate the various combos they have so that I can get a little of everything I like.
I had the chicken teriyaki, mixed tempura, and Cali roll. My husband had the short rib plate — this was delicious by the way!! And my sister had the mini tendons bowl.
Flavorful food, appropriate portion sizes, and good timing. This was a great spot.

really great japanese food! they have a huge menu but everything is very well executed, which is especially apparent in the simpler stuff like nigiri. a bit on the pricey side but worth it for the quality. restaurant has a nice unassuming vibe to it too. recommend!!

My favorite sushi restaurant ever!!! Loved everything here. Seaweed salad - nothing like I ever tried before. Toro with truffle - delish. Lamb chops and soups dumplings - amazing. I will be back.

Hands down THE BEST SUSHI RESTAURANT around. The quality of their ingredients is one of a kind. I've eaten sushi at a lot of different sushi restaurants in LA, this beats each and everyone of them. It felt like being in Japan. Finally, a sushi restaurant that's authentic 😋

I love it so much. Best Janpanes resteraunt near LAX area. Even the doordash order taste like heaven. Fish so fresh, Uni is the best. I also love Hamachi karma so moisture. Love. Keep coming back to this restaurant. Never go wrong.

Amazing service and food. Great surprise too that the restaurant is run by actual Japanese people so you're getting real authentic food. Everything from the sashimi, hot green tea and tempura was fresh and came out fast. If you're in the area, especially going to or from LAX, definitely stop by Kanpai Japanese restaurant.

Authentic Japanese fare with fish from the Japanese sea. Large selection of sushi, Curry, Rolls, Ramen, Udon, Grilled options and Salads. Highly recommend for authentic Japanese cuisine.

I spent my Christmas in LA this year and found this was one of the only non chain restaurants open so I went in for dinner. Great find! The waiters were so friendly as were the sushi chefs. The food was delicious and we didn't have to wait too long for it. It was a clean atmosphere and the authentic food was perfect. The pricing was very reasonable and the location was right off the road. Great place for lunch or dinner!

I've recently been on the hunt for tasty ramen...stumbled upon this place. I'll go through a break down of some important categories.
Staff and service: very friendly and the food came out quickly. Atmosphere was nice, little drafty in the front seating area.
Food: decent portions. The ramen was decent but I'm sad that it doesn't come with an egg. The food is also a little pricey.
Parking: if you park at the staples (behind the building) and walk over it makes things super simple.

Very Cool Place with Absolutely Wonderful Service from the the Lovely waitresses. My daughter and I truly loved the fresh Delicately, Delicously made Food. The Octopus was Fried Perfectly and flavored Very Well! The Tumeric Season blend is Exceptional. My daughter had the Albacore Tuna Roll ....Absolutely Delicious! My Blue Crab Wrapped in Nori was Devine. We ordered 2 rolls to take Home. Don't even remember what they were (my apologies) But murder was the case my daughter caught with both of them LMAO! Take your time the menu is as long as this review, that's why I'm a regular from now on.....at least until I've had EVERYTHING ON THE MENU!

This neat little sushi spot lived up to all the hype. We came in with empty stomachs and left so full and completely satisfied. I can honestly say this place serves some of the best sushi I've ever had anywhere and the spicy miso ramen was absolutely to die for, a huge portion with just the right amount of heat. Our servers were awesome and on top of everything even though it was a packed house with a line out the door. I will DEFINITELY be back and rest assured I'll be spreading the good word... Yumma!

Kanpai. Sushi is like crack to me. I just can't help myself. I won't lie. I am a #sushiwhore. But like in a sacred prostitute kind of way. Like a Tao Temple of the River Goddess Where the Fresh Finned Flow kind of way. Like a Daughter of the Primordial Mermaid Must Dive Deep kind of way. Just way over the top - off the menu type of way. I am a freak for it. As a certain somebody I known since I was born would say. If you love sushi, I am there. I am the there that is Everywhere. In a Zen Buddhism kind of way. Like there is Nothing. Great place. One might think it pricey, but I believe it’s worth paying the price for good quality sushi & food coupled with the same service. They have unique dishes and my husband & I were pleased both times. This time around we tried the deluxe sushi sampler, oysters, ankimo, shisito peppers & mushrooms, ikura, toro, & sashimi set. My mouth is watering again just writing this review. Takao is friendly & provided information on sushi we didn’t know. Staff is very attentive.
