Review Scratch Bar & Kitchen - Los Angeles

My wife and I were able to dine here last night for our 7 year anniversary. We wanted to have a special dinner and we were not disappointed at all! The cocktails they served during the bar phase of the meal were a nice surprise. My wife who is not a fan of alcoholic drinks really enjoyed these. We had such a good time talking to the staff and enjoyed all the food. Each course was unique and brought something new to the table. The whole experience was amazing. They say, "pictures are worth a thousand words", so i'll let the photos I took do the talking. We look forward to coming back.

If you are looking for an exciting, unique and exquisite restaurant than this is it!the experience is like no other. You will enjoy carefully crafted cocktails and appetizers before being taken into a small but beautiful kitchen where the main dishes are served. Every single dish is served and explained by the chef which gives it that extra beautiful detail. Flavors of the food are very exotic and for adventurous people. We were accommodated with our small baby and warmly greeted. Overall is a great experience, definitely a dinner to remember.

What a truly amazing and unique dining experience! At first, my husband and I were a little perplexed. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we thought we were at the wrong location! There was no signage on the door, and the blinds were closed. It took us a while, but we finally spotted the doorbell, rang it, and was immediately greeted by the maitre de. He then sat us at the bar, and this was where our food adventure began. They started us off with a few small bites along with a couple of cocktail pairings. Wow. We knew we were in for a great night! Each mouthful was bursting in flavour! Needless to say, this really whetted our appetites, and we were so excited for what else was to come! Some of the bites included torched scallops with caviar, black truffle meringues, and chicharrons with salmon roe. After that, we moved into the dining room where again, we sat at a bar, but this time facing an open kitchen. Our very own Chef's Table experience! It was incredible to be able to observe the workings of a highly trained, and well organized team. Every person had a very specific role in the kitchen. It was absolutely amazing to watch! Each dish was meticulously and beautifully plated. And the food itself was extremely innovative, thoughtful and most importantly, delicious! The highlights for me were the mussel with avocado and uni shooter, spot prawn, cuttlefish with bruleed sweet potatoes, corn and caviar, and the cheese ice cream. As each plate was presented, the chefs really took the time to explain how all the ingredients were prepared and the inspiration behind them. Coming in, I didn't know what to expect, and I was completely blown away. Definitely well worth the price!

Wow... That was a real culinary experience. The chefs & entire staff are very passionate about their job and it shows. Every dish was beautifully plated & delicious. Dinner was composed of about 10 small plates & 4 (yes 4) small desert dishes. Tiny portions but at the end of the evening I was full and very satisfied.

Amazing. Pricey, but very well worth every penny. I ate here with my girlfriend during DineLA and we enjoyed every single dish. Since everything there is hand made from scratch, I don't think there's anything I've yet in LA that compares. You should definitely check this place out.

The experience is worth trying, for once at least. They have a 21 course menu, crafted carefully from, literally, scratch! There are 2 rooms 1) the bar room, where you try your first few dishes and drinks. 2) the kitchen room, where you try the rest of the menu. Later, you go back to the bar room to have one final drink.

Amazing food. All from Scratch as in the name. The staff is amazing and the food is out of this world. So happy we don’t have to drive to Beverly Hills or downtown la to get a world class meal.

I knew this was going to be a good experience when we had to be buzzed in like it was a classy speakeasy. We went for the tasting menu and i added the standard wine pairing for 85 bucks. I know that's a little steep but i wanted a certain experience and i think the choices were good. Joey was the sommelier during my visit and i appreciated how he described the wine in a non-pretentious way and always asked my opinion. The servers were likewise very informative describing each dish in detail and even recommending a speficic number of bites for some of the dishes. Some of the standout items that i remember were the duck, the Wagyu beef, squash, and cheese ice cream. Highly recommend.

The sushi was probably some of the best I ever had (and I am a big sushi person). The experience was wonderful as well. Very intimate, personal, and great! Wish I had taken pictures of the experience. Everyone was nice and made the experience that much more enjoyable.

What a great experience! Each roll was hand crafted with a little bit of love and flare that you just won't experience (possibly) anywhere else. I'd recommend this to anyone that wants an experience. Pricing ends up being about 200/person. The 17 courses are just enough to hit the spot without leaving you uncomfortably full. Chef Carlos and team knocked it out of the park!

I recently had the pleasure of eating here with my daughters and best friend on a mothers day girls trip. The tasting menu was fantastic along with the standard wine pairing. Each and every member of the staff beams with pride when they explain the creativity and care that goes into creating each dish and the vibe is super fun.

This is an "experience" not just a meal. Amazing food, wonderful atmosphere, and super friendly staff/chefs. The chef is incredibly inventive, creative and personable too. This was the best experience of our trip to LA so far. Worth every penny people, open your wallets and enjoy the ride! Who knew a nice little mall can hold such a gem!

Loved it ! Watching the cooks is very entertaining, they are super friendly, beautiful place, great atmosphere, and every dish was a delightful surprise ! Small dishes, so we ordered 5 dishes between the two of us, and left completely satisfied. The LA Weekly gave it a not so great review, I don't agree with them at all. It's a great place for foodies and for a different kind of dining experience. Definitely going back, will probably try a tasting menu instead of a la carte.

Food was good and service was great. Drinks were tasty. Really enjoyed the dining room and seeing the chefs cooking. Having eaten at a number of fine dining, expensive restaurants though... Scratch just didn’t quite stand up to some of them (despite costing the same, if not more). Probably wouldn’t return just because the cost isn’t worth it, but it was still a lovely evening.

Excellent good, great friendly service with exceptional cocktails. Make sure you ask questions and let them know what you like so they can tailor the experience to your taste. They are more than happy to do so! Drink pairings, especially from the bar, are highly recommended.

Awesome food! Great atmosphere! Really fun experience! You can sit down and watch the chiefs as they prepare all of your food from scratch. They were very good about my wife's gluten allergy. The flavors of some of the dishes were like nothing I had ever had before. Definitely make sure to check this place out!

Best dining experience and food! Everything is made from scratch and you can feel the passion and creativity of the staff in every dish and drink they serve you. We came at a great time as they have revamped things. I don't want to give too much away so go and see for yourself! You won't be disappointed.

There isn't an appropriate term to describe how amazing the experience was. The staff was cordial, knowledgeable, immensely skilled, truly artful and masters of their craft. The food was beyond compare. I went in thinking I'd like a few things and grab some fast food after. Instead, I loved every bite of every dish and left so full and so happy. This place is worth every penny and then some. If you have the chance to eat here you must take it. And make sure to schmooze in the bar afterward; my husband and I had the privilege of chatting with Chef Brian at the end of the evening and it was the perfect ending to an exquisite night.

Went there a year ago after friends highly recommend it. We were a party of 6 & did the multi course tasting menu. While the concept of individual chefs preparing & serving their creations sounds good in theory, in practice it makes for a disjointed dining experience. Because there was no cohesive theme to the dishes, my taste buds were not happy. Dishes ranged from Middle Eastern, to Mediterranean to Mexican with their corresponding spices. Many dishes were over seasoned which detracted from, as opposed to enhancing, the flavor of the what was being served. Instead of highlighting something, the chefs seemed to want to impress us with the sheer # of spices/seasonings they were using and nothing was memorable and not 1 of the 6 of us thought we wanted to revisit any dish we were served. This was not one of our happiest dining experiences and we haven't been back & haven't recommended the restaurant either. Not to mention, small, cramped & loud - all things that detract from a good experience.

Invited to experience a different approach to a delicious 12 course dinner. Small to medium size portions of unique food combinations. Menu changes every month so the marrow served in the bone, the beet chip w/creme & caviar, and the small delicious taco (fresh made little tortilla) won't be there next time I go. Good beer and wine selection.

Scratch is definitely a unique experience. Not, just because of its tasting menu, (as many restaurants have tasting menus) but because of the unique items on the menu. Items so unique, they may and were troublesome for many pallets; especially non-fish, non-meat eaters and children. Although, I will say, they tried to accommodate the non-meat eater. As we were a party of 6, reviews were mixed. A few loved everything; a few not so much and a couple, not at all! Our bill was $1000, including wine. A bit pricey for a meal we're not "all" jumping for joy! It is quite loud; difficult to hear and talk in a group of 6. Although the menu does change monthly and the chefs are impressive, would we return?? TBD...

Amazing spot. It's like Disneyland (they bring you through an experience, like NoVacancy) for American Nouveau cuisine. The staff is incredibly attentive and knowledgeable. The food is phenomenal and the price (for 5 star cuisine) is still reasonable.

We had such a pleasant experience dining at the Scratch Bar & Kitchen on Sunday night. We sat at the counter and watched the talented and friendly chefs create such delicious, beautiful dishes loaded with flavor. Not only every single bite of every course was beyond delicious, but also the experience of feeling like we were in the chef's kitchen was amazing. It was such a treat to have Chef Phillip serving such amazing dishes to us - this chef's talent and great personality made our dinner a very special experience. Thank you Chef Phillip, all the talented chefs and Scratch Bar - we can't wait to be back.

It was amazing! Each dish was bursting with flavors that would take up a lot of space trying to describe them. The ambience was nice. Cool bar where you can watch the chefs working their magic. Well worth the price of admission.

There are no words for the experience at Scratch. It was my favorite meal ever, and I’m being completely truthful. The whole experience is unique from the beginning dishes paired with cocktails to the stunning presentations/plating to the pairings and the staff is incredible. They take food to another level. You can tell they love the craft and what they are doing. We can not wait to go back!

There are no words because I couldn't think of any. Amazing, ingenious, lovely, flavorful, intruguing? No, it was better. I couldn't stop laughing and having fun because the food brought back the best parts of my life in memories. So joyful. My husband and I spent our very first wedding anniversary here and it surely wont be the last! Michelin star restaurant for sure!

Hands down the best food I have ever tasted! The chefs were all nice, fun,and they all seemed to genuinely enjoy being there and making this amazing, wonderful food. The different flavors and textures in every plate are just astounding!
