Good food, but the place is very open and the noise invades the whole room. Instead it was designed by Philippe Starck and you can see his hand and the 90s style.
The food is absolutely amazing. Seevice is slow and with a touch of attitude (hostesses) atmosphere is good but for most part looks like another restaurant was repurposed for it. We had the Crispy Rice Tuna, rock shrimp, rainbow rolls, crispy Brussels Sprout and few other things but these were the clear winners
Every time I come to LA I have to go to Katsuya for sushi! You have to start off with the spicy tuna crispy rice, they are better than any other I have had before! The corn crunch I my personal favorite, but the rock shrimp left me speechless. The watermelon mojito is the perfect cocktail pairing if you enjoy a light and refreshing drink.
10/10 would recommend you must try if you haven't already! - don’t forget the lychee martini
This is a good place to come on a date with your loved one. It's also a good place to eat and drink with your friends. The sushi and the fried rice are a must-order. I would skip the cheesecake. The Katsuya, Special Spicy Tuna, and Salmon Lemon are a must-order.
I will start with the most important, food was good and fresh. Service was friendly enough and gave good advices.
The restaurant is a big venue, parking is horrible and luckily enough they have valet parking.
However because of the street, it's not easy to leave the car at the valet nor get to it, so it's in the street. Thus not easy to acces for elderly or if you're in a wheelchair , you have a step!
We ordered the Edamame and the Vegetable Tempura both were very good and for once there was a true selection of vegetables. I ordered a grilled eggplant that was very good and came with a sweet bbq sauce. I then had the Katsuya roll, with a mix of fish and I could only recommend it if you like it fresh and crunchy. I tasted the salmon lemon and felt it had maybe a strong zest to it but I am not s huge fan of lemon.
Warning, they have a 5% surcharge that you can ask to be removed.
I hate the whole US restaurant and service industry for not including service fee and leaving it to the appreciation of the customers to tip the waiters. But to have now all these other surcharges for different reasons, just include them in the price of your menu. Especially if you write that if we disagree you can remove them, it does not make it look rightful.
Loved the food, the atmosphere is good, although a little loud, a little too early. The cocktails were unique and well put together. The service was a little slow at times, but they were very friendly and helpful. This is a great spot and we plan to return.
Came here for their famous Brussels sprouts 🤤 it’s a MUST if you are at Katsuya. omg it’s so addictive, probably the best Brussels sprouts dish I’ve ever had! This is how Brussels spouts supposed to be cooked, it’s crispy, savory, umami, tasteful, and melts in your mouth. Absolutely unforgettable. Had to another one to go cuz it’s just so delicious!
We had crispy rice, chicken salad, and lean sea bass, everything tasted fresh and perfectly cooked. Dessert was fantastic, with a nice performative liquid nitrogen poured to the white chocolate fruity dessert, garnished with colorful flower petals, very stunning presentation, it’s definitely a highlight of the evening. Great atmosphere, oriental ambiance, wonderful service, spacious venue, with a “fun” nightclub vibes next door, and of course lovely cocktails. Shoutout to Andrew, the manager, thanks so much for ensuring a quality service for our table, exceptional customer experience and satisfied with the food! Highly recommend for a delightful date night out with your partner. 💯❤️🤍
I loved everything about this place except for how loud it was. They have little alcoves that help to reduce the noise but it still echos a bit around the main space. I would highly reccomend one of the set courses they really give you a good taste of the menu and truly everything is fantastic. I got the katsuya classics and got to say it's hard to have a favorite. The waiter also helped me to pick out a nice drink the spicy mandarin which I really wish I knew how to make at home. This is definitely one of the top tiers in Brentwood.
For locals we gush over Katsuya!!! It's as chic as you want it, as local and family as you want it, it's as sexy as you want it or you can drop in and get drinks. So glad to have it as our go-to for so many years.
They have valet parking available ($10). We ran late for our reservations, but hostesses were very nice and sat us right away. On the weekends, they have a DJ playing music in a bar area next to the dining area. You're able to order food and drinks until they close, but can continue to order drinks there after closing time. We ordered edamame, seaweed salad, gyoza, and the chef's choice (picture). Everything was delicious, and the atmosphere was great! Our server took good care of us.
