Review Gladstones - Los Angeles

Julien Garros
A great place for lunch with a stunning sea view. It’s a bit close to the road, but the sound of the waves drowns out the car noise. There’s parking in front, and you can also find some by the beach. The food is “okay”; I ordered a chicken sandwich, and my friend had the lobster roll, which was delicious. However, it’s a bit pricey for what you get, and the waitress seemed a little fake. Will recommend for lunch. The inside is super cool though.

Not our first visit but it will be our last, they are closing for good next week. Sorry to see them go, so many memories but this time not memorable at all. You would think that the staff would realize that they could provide exceptional service and maybe larger portions to get that larger tip because they will be out of work next week? But no, for $30 a lobster roll and chips, the chips were generous but seemed soft and stale. The lobster roll has maybe an ounce of lobster in it, the bread was only sliced a quarter down and the lobster put on top. If they gave us a massive lobster roll and let us know they did it special for us we would have heavily tipped but instead we felt like the minimum tip for the minimum effort was appropriate for the situation. The shrimp and linguine was ok but 4 shrimp, I remember 6 before. There are pepper flakes, adding a nice kick but about a tablespoon, not mixed in, under the noodles was not expected and too much. Again attention that they were known for was totally missing. Our waiter was pretty good, friendly and attentive. We didn't complain about anything because I always worry about retaliation from the kitchen when food is returned. We have not been there in a while so maybe this is part of a slow slide. Maybe after Richard Riordan passed it's possible that they have just been riding it out until these final days as they fade away. They say a Wolfgang Puck's is going to take over, by tearing down this landmark restaurant to put in a chain restaurant. I guess you are getting old when all the corner stones of your life slowly fade away.

Had to go once last time! Thanks for the memories. The Clam Chowder was delicious. The crab cakes were yummy. Blackened Sea Bass was great. Great views of the ocean from the patio. Gladstone’s you’ll be missed!

I grew up going here on special occasions. Later it became a tradition every time I visited home from Arizona to go see our family. We know they’re closing this year so we made a visit just to go to Gladstones. The menu is pared down now, but the food is still delicious. By the way, best sweet potato fries ever! Our server Jodi made it even more special! He was fantastic. The setting cannot be better. Per my tradition, after the meal I went down to the water and got my feet wet and felt so happy. My whole family will be very sad to see Gladstones Malibu go. Thanks for all of the memories!

The food was excellent, but the best thing was the attentive service by our waitress. She took great care of us, and even gave us a complimentary birthday cake, which is pictured, what she found out my girlfriend’s birthday was next week. They also had a gentleman going around making cool objects for kids out of aluminum foil.

The food and service was excellent but the location and the view from the patio dining made it very special. Highly recommend.

Really nice restaurant with a lot of history and in such a really nice place first line of the beach. The service was really nice, friendly and kind. The dishes are big portions and really tasty, specially the Lobster Risotto. Also the huge chocolate cake is really worth the price! 15$ and easily 5 people can have its slice .

A beautiful place for sunset either solo or with a group. Today I was on my own and Jess took such great care of me. I had apps and dessert in mind and topped it off with a hard kombucha. The calamari was super delish and I def need to come back for the macaroni.

Had early Sunday dinner at around 4:30 pm, and we were seated right away. Service was prompt and great. we ordered grilled salmon with broccoli, lobster roll, fried seafood platter and California salad. Family enjoyed all the dishes, and we all left happy. Parking was $13...

It was my mom's favorite restaurant. Missing her, I decided to celebrate my 55th birthday there and the server's name was Angel ❣️ #Perfect #BestBirthdayEVER

Breathtaking views with ample waterside seating both indoor and outdoor, generous servings, great seafood selection (and non seafood selection too) and decent prices and taste. It is an amazing place to catch the sunset while enjoying a meal and they also have a couple of small things for kids to enjoy and play with. Staff were friendly but we felt like there weren't that many (service was still reasonably fast). Of the things we had, the chowder was nice, the calamari was great (the marinara not so much though) and crab cakes were good too.

Wonderful seaside dining. Good prices for being next to the ocean. Bummer it's closing.

Gladstones 4 Fish will be closing this month, October 2023, after 50 years in Malibu. Wolfgang Puck will be opening a new restaurant in its place. The views are beautiful and the ocean breeze refreshing. I'll truly miss this restaurant!

Past it's use by date. :(<br/><br/>Was a bartender at Gladstone's from 1990-1991. Gladstone's 4 Fish was the place to be every summer weekend. Went there today and can not believe it is still open.<br/><br/>The location, view, venue are fantastic. The bright white and yellow are a positive change and that is the positive. <br/><br/>We came for late lunch on a Monday and it was a slow. Outside 65% full and inside 15%, so overall ~40% capacity.  plenty of servers, runners, managers, hosts, kitchen staff (Yes I looked from both sides of the bar and restaurant and watched the kitchen), but is took forever to get the food out. Our order took 45 minutes. :( :(<br/><br/>The menu is pretty limited and unexciting Some 20 items and 8 sides. For our lunch, we ordered the Turkey Club and 2 bowls of chowder as the servings can feed 2 people. The sandwich looked and tasted fresh but was nothing special above all the NY style deli's in SoCal. Our soup came out in standard bowl and warm. We had to send it back to be heated, which the staff politely did. When our server returned with the bowls, I mentioned how disappointing it was that the soup was no longer served in the bread bowl. They were selling plenty of bread loaves with butter. Our server said,"Oh, well we do that on request, I guess I should have mentioned that." Yes you should have, that is your job and make the soup that much more appealing. $12 for soup that looked like it came from a soup kitchen. :( :( :( <br/><br/> ""Update, have chowder bowl at Disneyland French Quarter""<br/><br/>If you want to experience Gladstone's, come have a drink, walk on the beach and try somewhere else for dinner. <br/><br/>Atmosphere: +1<br/>Food: +.25<br/>Price: +.25<br/>Presentation: +.25<br/>Professionalism: +.25<br/>Other:

Gladstones is a LA/PCH institution. It's the last place I would go by choice. Almost any restaurant whose clientele are predominantly tourist is a no go in my book simply because they do the rely on repeat business.<br/><br/>Awful service, overcooked food and dirty.<br/><br/>Have a beer and enjoy the view.

Not the Gladstone's I used to know. No local fish and way too pricey for me. I prefer Dukes same price better quality food.

Average good but beachside. Not worth it.

Save your money. A large value meal at McDonald's is much more enjoyable, and it leaves much less regret when you realize you could have fed a third world country for the price of this overrated garbage.

To Start Off... I've been here twice... The food is okay for the price.. Service is mediocre but the view... Is stunning. After your meal you can stroll along the private (or very low populated) beach and relax... Cajun ahi tuna sandwich is amazing. This place is only good for lunch... A pricey lunch

Hmmm. Not bad, nothing great but the location.

Surf and Seafood. Spicy Garlic Shrimp Tacos...WHAT!!??...That's all I'm going to say!..<br/>P.S. The view is awesome!

Gladstones Malibu. Shrimp Tacos, Crispy Calamari and salad, SUPERB! And eating while looking out over the Pacific makes it all the better. Good white wines, too! It was a wonderful afternoon and will be back upon return to LA & Malibu, no doubt.

Enjoy the outdoor dining. We came straight from the airport, and enjoyed lunch outdoors overlooking the water. what a perfect way to unwind and relax after traveling. the service was on point, the food was tasty, and the view could not have been better. my date had the burger, and i had the candy rock shrimp appetizer. both dishes were throughly enjoyed. the portions were abundant, and the cold beers went perfectly with the meal. gladstone's is an excellent spot for lunch on any given afternoon.

Would recommend. Used to visit LA a lot when my daughter went to school and we always enjoyed ourselves. The view is great and and the food good though maybe not great.

Pretty good. Wish they had fries instead of chips. i eat here 4 times a year when i am in L.A. Great Views and seafood!!!!

This place is awful. It was moderately busy and gradually grew less busy but the service stayed sub par the whole night. Incorrect orders, EVERYTHING took too long to come out and this is not an isolated incident, when we were looking for a waiter who did something, we were looking at disappointed faces Doing the exact same thing as us. Food was fine but in no way worth it.

WARNING!. Warning! Under new management. Menu is very limited. Prices are exorbitant! Ambiance has changed (booths ripped out, no peanuts; tables with tablecloths). IT'S YOUR MONEY, so I don't care if you go or not! But You Have Been Warned!!!!

Amazing! Awesome drinks, ambience & food. I had the rock shrimp app & the clam bake, both cooked to perfection. I wish I had saved room for dessert. Mentally prep yourself for the sticker shock though.

Bad experience was not please with food the food is over priced and underrated. The group at our table was not satified with thier meals. We sent back a meal because it was not what they expected, they then sent the the wrong order for the replacemt. When the menu says whole lobster and you get lobster meat, that's not correct. The manager was not very good. But the general manager came over and gave one of our patrons her meal on the house. Over all not a great expierence.

Absolute Train Wreck. Went once... It was one of the worst dining experiences. Went again to give the place a fair chance. Train wreck. Really bad service. Food: okay. Price: outrageous considering all factors. Twenty dollars for a bad omelet served with the wrong person's sides? The toast was from the day before and rock hard! This place is Banned for Life.

I enjoyed my meal very much. No wait for lunch on a weekday. Expensive, but good portions. Try the Hot Fudge Brownie to finish off your meal!

I avoided Gldstones forever, thinking it's probably a giant scene. I finally went and was completely underwhelmed. Average food, loud, expensive parking, bad service. You'd do better to head a little further north up the PCH to Reel Inn or if you have the time, enjoy the ride up to Malibu Seafood.

Waited thirty minutes for a table but there were many available. Ordered right away and waited thirty minutes for food. Waiter could not keep my water glass full or my wife's. I had forgettable Cajun seared ahi - my wife had a good coconut shrimp. $63 for lunch and the waiter put through a charge of $65.15. Bank reversed it for me. Service absolutely sucked.

Good. It was a good resteraunt but a bit pricey!

Los Angeles. Not necessarily my favorite place on Earth. I lived in Pasadena for a year and commuted into LA for a year. Knowing what I know now, I'd probably live on the beach. If I could live on the real estate Gladstone's is bolted to, all of my 12 ficticious children could go to Harvard or Stanford and have money left over for their children to attend as well. The view at Gladstone's is outstanding. Outside of a few places I've eaten in Hawaii, Gladstone's has to take the cake for the best view I've had in SoCal (sorry, no pictures, it was a business lunch). For such a grand view, I had a humble sandwich, fried cod with tartar sauce on challah with house made potato chips and cold slaw. Fantastic sandwich and all the sides were first rate. The chips were crispy and seasoned with salt. The cod fish was golden brown on the outside, moist on the inside. Even the bun was good. I have to say, I broke concentration during the meeting, simply to enjoy the sandwich and sides. Delicious. I

Southern Californian weather is so enviable that people from all over the world come here to vacation, especially in the Winter, when 60-70 degrees Farenheit is considered "cold" by those of us who live here. After many years here, I've assimilated to being spoiled. I put on sweaters and scarves (I even wear gloves sometimes) anytime the thermometer dips below 65 degrees, and when I see people in tank tops I know instantly that they are tourists or new transplants from a region where Winter means snow. One beautifully clear blue sky day, the beach called out for a visit, so two assimilated East Coast transplants opted to go to Gladstone's for lunch. This place one of those tourist and local favorites that has become a bit of a landmark. After their remodel about 2 years ago, it got a much needed structural and menu facelift. The sawdust on the floor and the barrels of roasted peanuts are gone, but the casual atmosphere and the fresh seafood still draw crowds. Their Bloody Mary for $14

Almost a year ago, I ran into Sam Nazarian at XIV restaurant where he informed me that he had just taken over the management of Gladstone’s in Pacific Palisades, which is owned by former Los Angeles mayor Richard

Good news for Angelenos: Nazarian has partnered with the owners of Gladstone’s restaurant, right on the beach off Pacific Coast Highway, to manage the spacious location and transform it into a west coast Nikki Beach. We can’t wait!

I only went to Gladstone's because I dragged my family out to Malibu to visit Cholada Thai and it was closed (they're closed on Mondays--I forgot). There aren't a ton of dining options in the area, so we forced my mom to deal with her bird phobia so we co
