Initially hesitant 😕 to try this place for I am not a fan of udon 😐 Marugame Monzo has changed me. Their udon has a good bite and the cream sauce silky. I cannot imagine saying this before eating here for I do not like dairy too 😂 Thank you 🙏🏽 for expanding my culinary experience 😋
Absolutely delicious!!! The braise pork belly is a must try!! Beautiful decor and wonderful and helpful staff!! It's definitely a dinner and show, because there is someone on staff making udon noodles for everyone to see. Most definately worth the wait!! Highly recommend!!!
I recently dined at Marugame Monzo in Little Tokyo and was thoroughly impressed by their udon noodles. Cooked to perfection, the noodles had an ideal texture that complemented the rich broth exceptionally well. The ambiance of the restaurant adds to the experience, making it a delightful spot for udon enthusiasts.
While the uni udon was a unique twist, I found the uni flavor to be somewhat subtle. I expected a more pronounced sea urchin taste, but it didn't quite meet my expectations. Additionally, the portions were on the smaller side. Despite these minor drawbacks, the overall dining experience at Marugame Monzo was exceptional. The diverse menu, friendly staff, and the standout udon noodles make it a must-visit for anyone exploring in Little Tokyo.
The uni creamy udon noodle soup is the way to go! The broth is literally pure creamy cheese, drenching uni bits, roe, and udon noodles. The uni bits are cooked due to the heat of the broth, which doesn't give the beautiful milky flavor that fresh uni can offer. But the consistency of the udon noodles with the amazing creaminess of the broth and flavor bombs of the roe was a perfect match. I wish there was more roe, fresher uni bits, and a warning sign for potential stomach aches from all the dairy lol! We also tried the hot spicy beef udon, but there was not much flavor in the broth nor the ingredients. The uni flavor is pricy, sitting at a $23 bill, while the hot spicy flavor was about $16. Sitting outside the venue gets you seated immediately because no one wants the tables, and it's not so bad in good company. The service is slower and you might have to remind them you need to order. Overall, it's a good experience for udon noodles. Won't be my go to all the time, but it's good to try once!
While travelling and waiting out the hurricane/storm in Japanese village plaza we started to get hungry. Surprisingly the majority of the eateries inside the plaza were empty. I figured it was due to the storm but as I read the reviews this doesn’t seem to be the case.
Marugame had a bunch of great reviews and as we made our way there it was definitely popular. Just imagine getting a weather advisory on you phone and still seeing a line-up outside.
Well we ended up waiting about 30 minutes and finally got a seat. Unfortunately, none of us were in the mood to try their house specialty because of allergies and such.
But the stuff we ordered was fantastic. I definitely recommend the fried chicken and almost any udon.
Wait wasn't as long as I expected on a Friday night (~40min for party of 5).
Best udon I've ever had.
Beef and jidori was a bit too sweet but delicious.
All the creamy udon was great and reminded me of pasta sauce. The flavors are very distinct from one another.
Sides were flavorful. Highly recommend the karaage.

Creamy, delicious, and flavourful udon. Marugame has a variety of unique Japanese udon that I would go for over and over again.
We had so much fun trying each of the items on the menu.
Mentai cream udon to the moon. Simply delicious. Love the noodle thickness and texture mixed with the creamy soup. Wait may be long but food was quick and it’s worth it.
The space in the restaurant is quite limited and they will sometime have you share a table with another group (especially if your a pair), but they do their best to give you the privacy you need with a screen in between.
Great spot. Wait wasn’t too bad. Had the tempura which was so crunchy, light and flavorful. Shrimp tempura udon and Beef Udon. Not too filling and heavy. Just right!
The udon is a bit too al dente for my liking. But flavor is good. The beef tataki was a bit plain. There was not much flavor
there’s almost always a wait but it’s always worth it! have had the famous uni and ikura udon before and it was delicious, but on a hot summer day, I decided to try a different cold udon.
The ikura udon was delicious and I added a soft-boiled egg to it. The shiso leaf perfectly balanced the flavors out and I also added a bit of the plum paste. I also ordered an agedashi tofu which was fresh!
I recently visited Marugame Monzo and had an amazing experience. The open kitchen concept added to the vibrant atmosphere, and the fast service was impressive.
Among the various udon dishes we tried, including the mushroom creamy udon and sea urchin udon, I must say it's the best udon place I have ever visited.
The sea urchin udon soup, which is their most popular soup, was delicious, but personally, I preferred the creamy mushroom udon. I also heard great things about the duck udon from a friend, so I'll definitely try it on my next visit.
Overall, Marugame Monzo is a must-visit for udon lovers!
