Review Urban Masala - Los Angeles

Athar Jan
If you are looking for some desi food, I recommend visiting this place. The food is tasty, not so spicy (surprisingly), their bread (naan) is baked fresh in the oven they have it and the staff is very helpful in suggesting the dishes and polite. Halal food is an added bonus if you’re looking for it in this area.

You should certainly check out this place if you're in Los Angeles! I savored every morsel of my meal. Actually, the Thal was a fantastic concept and chance to sample many foods. The restaurant's interior was nicely designed, and the staff was kind and helpful. Will I return? Absolutely!

The food- EXCELLENT. I felt like I was back in India. They made the naan and samosa fresh! My eyes popped out. Everything was delicious ( but not too spicy). The eggplant was our favorite. The number of options you could choose for your thaali was amazing. The portions were so big too. The service- EXCELLENT. The staff was so kind and so sincere. The best service I’ve seen ever. Hands down.

Delicious food! We've ordered 3 plates with 2 entrees each and tried 6 different curries. 3 vegetarian, 1 chicken and 1 lamb entree. Guess what, every entree meets/exceeds our expectations. That's surprising to me! Also, tried 2 desserts and 1 mango lassi. Desserts: Gulab Jamun and Ras Malai are yummy 😋🤤. Lastly, delicious food for a great price on Hollywood Blvd. It's a steal!

First time visiting Urban Masala in Hollywood. Was a little concerned with the Chipotle style setup but was not a concern at all. Food was great and really fresh. Made our Samosas on the spot! Was fairly quick getting through the line and placing our order. Only complaint was the cashier bailed on me right as I was ready to pay. Waited for 5 minutes while they helped out with the food order line. Otherwise everything was great.

I love the prison style atmosphere. No fans or air, only made worse by the piping hot food mere feet away, long cafeteria tables, and to top it all off, a giant metal tray filled to the brim with slop. If it were absolutely delicious and cheaper than a single drink from the nearby bars, I'd be upset. One thing, though. They advertise a free dessert if you check in via Yelp, and once you do it, suddenly they have no idea what you're talking about and don't accept coupons.

We have tried a few times and we like it. It is not bad and portion is good. Waiters are nice and helpful. Location wise, it is convenient but parking is nearly impossible during rush hour.

This place has fair pricing for what they offer. It is great you could come here even later night and expect to get some fresh Indian food. The layout is pretty nice and you feel like the place is clean. I would definitely recommend.

Just finished an online order from Urban. First of all I am totally spoiled from dining in La Grange Il at a gourmet Indian restaurant called Kama. The level of care there given to every dish is unparalleled. So when I moved to LA we had a very jarring experience of ordering food that was literally traumatic! Bland and oddly flavored, flat Naan and mostly placed in the bin. Since we have had some good experiences here. This would be one of them. We are vegetarian so as a meat eater we can only suggest that the approach to what I think would be street Indian food here at Urban would predict a happy result! The Samosa were flavorful though our flakey Kama versions were achieved. The Mango chutney was homemade and went well with this staple. The Naan was garlic and it was flavorful and chewy and as it was delivered it was obviously not right off the wall of the Tandoori oven..We tried the Aloo Gobi and Paneer which were spiced well and had a fresh quality with par cooked onions and taragon. The basmati rice was properly flavored and al dente as if it had been properly and recently cooked. We tried a Tandori Paneer and it was excellent and not a dish I have had before. I think we can say you will be happy with this Urban street version of India repas and I would recommend you give it try! If you are ever in Chicago the trip out to Kama will be a destination I think you will place as benchmark for how good this ancient cuisine can be!

The place gets a high rating for the 2 main aspects - Quantity vs Price and the Location. For Indians and Indian food this is a blessing of disguise. After 2 hop-on/hop-off finished by lunch time, we were famished and on searching with a 4 rating we found this place. My wife is a vegetarian and ordered the Paneer Butter Masala and Daal Makhani, while I ordered Malai Chicken and Butter Chicken. The rice was not finished by us after the naan and vegetable/chicken we ate. I should have cut .5 and give 3.5 rating for the samosa was disappointing. First of all he did fried it immediately, but I saw the Oil was not hot enough, which means I got a OILY samosa. It tasted how it should be, but very oily. Missing is the picture of Mango Lassi - it is very sweet and american taste of Lassi available in all Indian food places. Nothing bad about it or good about it. Unless you are not fond of Indian Sweets, you can skip it for the sweetness. It was like drinking soda, just a tad-healthy with no carbonated drink. Pro - Great Place and Great Price. Cons - Not spicy (very simple taste).

They have amazing Indian food. If you're famished, then you should definitely try the plate option which consists of rice, two curry of your choice, garlic naan and salad.

Looking at the reviews cannot believe somebody wrote portions are small… they are really big… and the food is tasty! The naan is really great! Staff is very friendly and helpful.

We had a trip to vegas and had a hault in Los Angeles. There, we have been to hollywood to explore. We are hungry and craving. Trying to find a restaurent. Mean while, We found Urban Masala. We had a great food there. We had a bombay plate, which comes with two entries naan and salad. One of my friend got Masala Bowl which comes with Basmati rice and any one entree. I wondered how they can serve that much quantity for very little amount. Their prices are so reasonable. My hubby got Chicken Tikka Naan Roll. It was awesome. The caption for the food is "Just Delicious. Cant forget. The restaurent was so busy , still staff their were accomodating every customer with comfort. They were very friendly to customers. Their service was too fast. They not only serve the food, but also give respect to customers and value our comfort and need. I love this place. I have never seen such a busy restaurant in entire United States. Thanks to the management for their friendly , efficient and super fast staff. All of them are young guys and every one works like a machine. Thanks for the food. Thanks for a nice time. I will be here every time I visit Los Angeles.

Its a wonderful place to be. Everything we ate was simply yummy. Even kids love their chicken curry and naan. Bombay plate is wonderful and can fill you even if you are super hungry. The location is the best, right on walk of fame. What else you need, do try it if you are there.

My first time at Urban Masala. The interior is large and plain with long tables and backless chairs, with a few tables with chairs and cushioned benches against wall (more comfortable). The staff were all friendly and happy to answer questions, offer sample tasting. I thought the food was decent and portions good for the money. The restaurant was quite busy. I would return.
