Review Cafe Intelligentsia - Los Angeles

Kirk D
I was on a donut quest and happened upon this place. Their chocolate devil's food cake certainly did the job! It was delicious. But more importantly, the atmosphere and service was exactly what I expect and appreciate in a perfect cafe. When I got to the cash register, I was surprised that they DON"T ACCEPT CASH. And none of my bank apps were linked to my new phone. I only had cash. But the clerk made an exception due to my circumstances and let me pay in cash. This was huge, because I was on foot and had walked all the way from the pier in Santa Monica. And the donut was already in the bag. Anyway, it all worked out thanks to their amazing customer service. I also love the outdoor seating, which feels surprisingly welcoming and cozy due to the plants, layout, furniture choices, and mural. I would go there again for sure the next time I'm in L.A.

If you're a coffee lover and find yourself in Venice Beach, do yourself a favor and visit Intelligentsia. This place is an absolute gem and hands down our favorite go-to place for coffee in the area. We visit multiple times a year and every experience has been consistently excellent. The coffee itself is truly exceptional - each cup is carefully crafted by expert baristas who take great care to bring out the unique flavors and characteristics of each roast. Whether you prefer a rich and bold espresso or a perfectly brewed pour-over, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu here. Beyond the coffee, the atmosphere at Intelligentsia Coffee is warm, inviting, and perfectly suited for a leisurely morning or afternoon. The cafe sits right on Abbott Kinney Blvd, and you can take in the sights and sounds of the bustling street while sipping on your perfectly brewed cup of coffee. Overall, we can't recommend Intelligentsia Coffee highly enough. It's clear that the team here is passionate about coffee and creating a memorable experience for each and every customer. Whether you're a local or just passing through, be sure to make a stop at this amazing coffee shop - you won't regret it! Update 10/01/2023: Added new photos, amazing service and freshness as always.

There was a time back in 2008 when the Silverlake and Venice locations may have been home to the most hipster customer base on the planet. Thank God that phase of double decker bicycles, suspenders, overly large sunglasses and Bermuda shorty shorts has come to an end. But that doesn’t mean the Venice location has stopped brewing straight up legit coffee. Here are the list of drinks they nail(for me at least) - cappuccino, cortado, mocha, iced mocha and matcha latte. The vibe at this location is very chill and inviting. Do yourself a favor and get in there.

I’ve been a fan of Intelligentsia coffee for a while so I had to stop by their LA Venice location to check it out. As usual, the coffee tasted spot on like other Intelligentsia locations in other states. I ordered the drip coffee and it packs a good punch of balanced taste plus caffeine every time. This particular location in Venice has a prime spot in another one of my favorite places to visit which is Abbot Kinney. It’s in an airy building with lots of working space and cozy hipster vibes. You can grab a coffee and either linger at the cafe or walk around nearby to the shops. The only thing to watch out for is the price as Intelligentsia definitely runs on the higher end of coffee bars but it’s a great treat every once in a while.

Great place and one of the best coffee in the area. Coffee is still not as good as in Europe, but better than in most other coffee shops.

Been going here since years and it was worth a visit since we moved away from CA. Nice to see the barristas are still making an effort with the coffee and it still taste good, given what they charge for a coffee ;)

The coffee is quite good — not “exceptional”, but definitely fully enjoyable. The order taker, however, did not what “breve”, but they tried their best and manage to froth halnhalf, although it tasted as the process was new for the barista. I’d expect such a popular place to know the specifics of “breve”. With crowds Inteligentsia attacks, they should also try to open a second bathroom — the line was there all the time we had our coffees and later. But - if you like coffee and like LA you gotta visit this iconic place.

I love this place. Great coffee ☕ friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere. Although I have chance once in every couple of years to visit LA, intelligentsia is must visit. Coffee taste, the flavor is just fantastic. Placed on Abot Kinney perfect location for grabbing the coffee on sunny day. Had a cappuccino , and I didn't regret it :)

I yesterday visited here, and I have to say, it was an incredible experience. The shop was bustling, but the staff remained attentive and friendly. In particular, I had the pleasure of meeting one employee - but, unfortunately I did not get his name - who received the order around 7 a.m. on February 15th. He truly went above and beyond to make my visit memorable. I was very moved by his thoughtful and agile handling. I had a fantastic experience at Intelligentsia Coffee, and it was largely thanks to his excellent service. I highly recommend this coffee shop due to his touching attitude.

My favorite coffee roaster in L.A. and the best coffee in all over California. No matter if you want tea, chai, cappuccino, or speciality coffee - all the drinks are ready good and prepared by expert baristas. The flavor and the bouquet of the espresso beans is rich and intense. Even when mixed with milk, the bitterness and sweetness is well balanced.

Nice busy coffee shop. Good tasting coffee and pastries. Only one bathroom, which is very busy all the time. No power outlets to charge computers even though everybody are on their computers. Overall everything is great, except if your gadget is running out of power)

This location serve a strong coffee with ample indoor space despite the crowds. It is ABK so parking is a bit of a hassle, but what else would you expect. There are plenty of outlets and the orders do come out quickly despite how busy it can get at times.

Perfect spot for a quick email check, people watching and most importantly perfect coffee.

It's really good coffee. Good brew and good selection of bean. It's always long line. The barista keep busy and the service is quite fast, amazing. They have good pastry as well.

Great coffee, with a good selection of pastries throughout the day with easy access to street and backlot parking. Atmosphere is welcoming with an industrial vibe. Be aware there aren't to many seats to do work unless you get there early.

The chocolatiest mocha latte I've ever tasted. Love it. But all the tables seem to be single person only and I was with a friend...
