Review Canter's Deli - Los Angeles

This space is bright and loud and lively! Well loved seats and tables and food that you can eat for three days. Drinks you can't get anywhere else and a bakery and deli counter attached. Service is fast and no nonsense. Every bite is delicious, and you'll need a wagon to roll out the door.

Just had an amazing experience at Canter's! The food was absolutely delicious, each bite was a burst of flavors that left me wanting more. But what truly made the experience memorable was the exceptional service. The staff was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. Kudos to the team! If you're looking for a place with mouth-watering food and top-notch service, Canter's is the place to be!

Authentic Jewish Deli serving Hollywood for decades. You feel like you've stepped back in time dining at Cantors. Traditional deli flair with a nice selection of baked goods as well. Small parking lot designated for the restaurant. Street parking may be difficult to find.

It was Halloween night, the day before our 24th wedding anniversary. We were restricted due to the Halloween parade in West Los Angeles. So we decided to go to Canter’s. We haven’t gone here since we were single, so it was very nostalgic. As soon as you walk in, you are transported into an East Coast deli with various meats and a delicious bakery. We were asked what kind of table we wanted, a booth or a table. We chose a booth. Of course, we ordered the matzo ball soup. I got the vegetarian, and my wife got the regular. It wasn’t too long after I realized I made a big mistake. My wife ordered spaghetti with marinara sauce, and I ordered the plant-based pastrami sandwich with coleslaw. I’ve been a fish-eating vegetarian for 30 years now, so I can hardly remember the taste of a pastrami sandwich. However, I loved the taste of the plant-based pastrami. It had the right texture and flavor. I was pleasantly surprised I ate the whole thing. My wife loved the spaghetti. She ate her entire plate, which is rare for her. The atmosphere was fantastic; it gives you a '60s and '70s flavor. We could not leave without ordering some pastries for dessert. We are so glad we did. I couldn’t think of a better place to celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary than Canters, where the fires began to burn. Canter’s would be an excellent place to have family meetings or gatherings. There’s plenty of perfect seating, areas, booths, and tables. We could not leave without ordering some pastries for dessert. We are so glad we did. I couldn’t think of a better place to celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary than canters, the place where the fires began to burn. The prices were reasonable, and all but one meal was a 10 out of 10

A Los Angeles institution since 1931 Canters deli is a great place that’s open 24 hours a day. Sit in a booth or at the bar, the food is fantastic with very reasonable prices. We enjoyed an egg and sausage breakfast platter, and the attentive wait staff kept refilling our coffees and making us feel welcome. An old-time LA diner worthy of a visit. Recommended.

The perfect New York deli. Barley soup, chicken noodle soup, matzah ball soup - all are perfect. Great pastrami sandwich. A little disappointed that I didn’t see Chuck E Weiss there, until I remembered that he had died.

Really nice atmosphere. The food was good, but depending on the dish. The bring a dish of pickles before you even order which I love. The good type of pickles too! POTATO PANCAKES were a good appetizer for 3 people, SWEAT AND SOUR CABBAGE WITH BEEF, good but too sweet for me. BRISKET dish was nice, PASTRAMI SANDWICH amazing!!!! Dessert: BANANA MILKSHAKE was good (a bit too heavy for me) CHOCOLATE RUSSIAN COFFEE CAKE was good. I would get it again! In general I will be back, there are a lot more things I want to try from the menu!

Canter's has always been one of the great institutions of LA. My family has been coming here for 3 generations and the better part of 75 years. Went Saturday night after a concert, and it was a little slow with the incoming storm. Dave was our waiter and he was fast, had a couple of great Hurricane jokes for us. The Canter's Fairfax was phenomenal as always. After our dinner was finished however, things took a turn. After cashing out with Dave, we went to the bakery. After waiting for a few minutes, with no bakery worker in sight, our server politely let me know they didn't have any workers on that side and to just ask one of the guys on the Deli side. After approaching the Deli counter, one of the guys on that side started swearing at me telling me that the bakery is only open 24 hours on Fridays and Saturday and it's been that way for many years. Literally dropped multiple "F-bombs" at me. Shortly another one of the Deli guys did come over and he helped us. It was a very simple order, just a dozen rugelach. Had there been signage saying the bakery was closed, or even posted hours on Google Maps, we simply would have gone on our way. Instead I was berated and cussed out for not knowing some policy that I'm still not clear on, since it was in fact just after midnight on a Saturday. Going to avoid for a while, but will definitely give them another chance down the road. I truly hope that this experience does not portend what's to become of this establishment. Gave 4 stars still, because my Fairfax was great, and all of the other workers were incredibly polite and accommodating.

Best Belgian waffle in LA by far. I’ll tell you the secret. It’s the butter for sure. Adds so much rich savory flavor. I don’t eat much waffles but I would for sure go back just for these. The turkey pesto panini and sweet potatoes were leaving me with craving more after every bite. Cooked just right!

The most delicious and tender melt-in-your-mouth corned beef and pastrami Reuben sandwiches on the planet. Plus old-school ambiance out the ying-yang. And a super friendly and helpful staff. What's not to love??

I went to Canter's twice yesterday, once around 7 before going to a show, and once around 10:30, after the show. Amazing service both times. I don't remember my first waiter's name, but he was excellent. He kept checking up on me, making sure everything was awesome, and did an amazing job. Our waiter later that evening (Douglas) did just as amazing of a job and even impressed me with how perfectly he wrapped up the rest of my food for me so it was perfect to eat this morning. The food is the absolute best. I love it and I go every chance I get when I am in the area.

This place is absolutely incredible. The food is so good. A great place to go and hangout after an evening of fun in LA. The atmosphere is great and it’s a staple of LA history.

It was no better than average for LA. Does not come close to New York deli and I don’t understand why. Service is slow, pastrami below par and the place needs a lot of renewing. I have nothing against vintage but that place is ridiculous. Even my favorite bakery goodies don’t taste good from Canter’s

I love this place we used to go there for lunch all the time. I recommend just about everything on the menu but my favorite is chop liver or matzo ball soup.

For food like my yiddeshe mamma used to make or better! Amazing!!! Excellent service too! And the biggest and best matzoh balls I’ve ever seen or eaten!!!

I called the deli and ordered one pound of turkey, on pound of ham, pound of cheese and a pound of corned beef. Came to 98$. They said it would be ready in 45 minutues. I went an hour later and they said they didn't have the order. The deli staff were very casual and matter of fact. When I told I ordered an hour ago by phone and they should take the order now, the deli man, " I am not doing anything for you because you are yelling at me." I asked to see the manager and he said, " Go find her yourself." I am regular customer and have been going to Canters for 50 years. I always have them cater my parties. Never have I experienced such rude behavior. I found the manager and she placed the order. The manager and workers were all complaining how busy they are. I told them that they are supposed to be busy, they are a service establishment and that is job security. Canters caters to so many tourists, they don't care if the regular customers return. From now on, I am going to Langers or Factors.

Cupcake was our waitress, and she was lovely. The food was outstanding and the entire staff was welcoming and friendly from arrival to our departure. I also loved getting my signed and numbered GNR book! I'm from AZ, and put Canters on my itinerary of stops while in town; glad I did! I will definitely be back!

Walking into Canter's is like setting The Way Back Machine to 1970 and I'm pretty sure the decor hasn't been updated since then. However, the menu is quintessential NY-style deli and the preparation delivers as well as anything I've found west of Manhattan. The servers are seasoned pros who are attentive, flexible and friendly. If you're seeking that authentic deli experience with great food and service look no further than Canter's.

The best service in town and I love the Matso ball and corn beef and pastrami

I had great time there with friends, they had best hot pastrami and creamy cheesecakes.

for years It was my favorite place now very bad. They say open 24 hours and it's a lie. since today I went at 2 am and they told me that it was already closed. Eliminate your always open sign and your fake ads. if any see recommended. Now I say look in the area there better options.

Canter's is a true Deli. We went for their 70th Anniversary. Their Pastrami Reuben was fantastic, Pickles on point, and Chocolate Chip Rugala outstanding. Employees were all very friendly and knew their job well. Will definitely return.

Amazing traditional Jewish deli - enjoyed a wonderful breakfast with corned beef (delish!), eggs, bagel and I had to try their potato pancakes (divine!) and a Belgian waffle. Could not walk out without some yummies from the bakery as well!
