Review Bossa Nova Brazilian Cuisine - Los Angeles

Tony Herrera
We liked this place, their food was good, they don't quite get to 5 stars in any of the categories, the steak was overcooked, service wasn't outstanding for what this place costs and the atmosphere is not that impressive. Just good enough. For our group of 4 adults and a boy, they included the service charge of 28 dollars, so I didn't feel compelled to leave any additional tip. My bill came up to 198.00, keep in mind our boy ordered an 8.00 burger and by the way, didn't eat it because it was burnt. I couldn't really tell you that I will go back... Most likely not... Thank you for reading my review!!!

Very nice restaurant. No reservation necessary, we walked up and was greeted and seated. The restaurant was not crowded at all, it was in the middle of the day, very quiet place to have a nice tranquill lunch. Service was great, like I said, the restaurant was not crowded the waiter was very attentive. Parking is in the back, free of charge. I wish we knew that before paying the meter on the street. 😫 Food was delicious, you do get a generous amount of food, which is nice. Small restaurant, it may be a wait if you go on a busy day. I would definitely eat at Bossa again.

I admit that either we took a lot of food or the portions were very big, especially the ones with 3 sides. We had 2 starters (fried yucca, and 3 traditional dumplings), a pub steak and grilled shrimps each with 3 sides and a starter salad; 2 glases of prosecco and 2 beers = 148$ plus tip We couldn’t eat more than half of the main courses. The entire food is made on the spot, it tasted delicios and again, the portions were too big. We had only one desert (brasilian lemon cake) which l personally do not recommend…maybe just because l was full 😬 The waiters are seniors and the service is old quality fashion. More tips for the waiters.🤗💞from outside you won’t give them too much credit, but give them a chance and enter … 😇

Excellent ambience. Great food. Great date night place. Best food around. Pizza, pasta, meat and shrimp dishes.

We went to Bossa Nova Brazilian Cuisine to celebrate my sister's graduation 🎓. We called in advance to make a reservation. The moment we got there, the gentleman at the door was really nice. The inside was cute. We got a table outside and it was perfect! They had decorated for the graduates of 2023... It was awesome. The food was great!!! The prices were really affordable. We truly recommend it!

I hadn't been here (at this location) in a good while. I was happy I decided to stop by when I was passing it while in the area. Their food is as good as always. A must return to place.

I love Bossa Nova Cuisine. I'm 20+ years customer, and unfortunately don't leave so close anymore, but anytime I'm around, I came here to enjoy one of their delicious food. It is undoubtedly a top spot on my list of favorite restaurants, and for excellent reasons. Firstly, the sheer variety of food offered is mind-boggling. From the traditional Brazilian's Pao-de-queijo and coxinha, to their variety of pizzas, salads, etc their menu caters to every palate and preference. And the best part? Every single dish I tried was absolutely delicious. The flavors were vibrant and well-balanced, the ingredients fresh and high-quality, and the presentation beautifully done. The ambiance further enhanced the experience. The staff is always incredibly friendly and attentive, making me feel welcomed and valued every time I came in. And for those who enjoy a late-night bite, Bossa Nova is a haven! They operate late hours, so it's the perfect spot to grab a delicious and satisfying meal even after most kitchens have closed. Overall, Bossa Nova is a must-visit for anyone seeking a unique and delightful dining experience. From the incredible variety of food to the friendly staff and inviting atmosphere, it's a place that truly has it all. I recommend it wholeheartedly!

I wasn't expecting the full rich flavors of our meals. The capirinhas, kibes, empanadas and the feijoada were EXCEPTIONAL...And the chocolate Grande cake feeds 2-4 ppl. Our server Tyler G was always on point.

The Pao de Queijo (cheese breads) are the perfect appetizer. My go-to entree is the picanha - it’s always flavorful (get it rare/medium rare - NEVER get it well-done) only side you need to order are the fries - they are addicting. If you find my review helpful - please give it a thumbs up and don’t forget to like my pics and follow me for more reviews of my LA adventures!

The food was phenomenal. I had the salmon bowl and everything was so delicious. I would definitely recommend it to friends and family. Very tasty.

The staff at this location are rude & very unprofessional. Our 1st waiter took the menu out of my friends hand before she even finished ordering her meal. We asked for bread while we wait and the waiter told us none was ready but that he did put in an order for us. We didn't mind waiting because we thought that meant fresh hot bread but I guess not because 10 mins later, we received a basket of cold, hard, stale bread. The 2nd waitress brought our check to our table before they even made our food. Then she kept returning back to our table demanding payment. In so many words she said if we didn't pay for our food upfront then they wouldn't prepare it. We then decided to ask for our food to go instead and we requested to pay separately at the register. The waitress immediately declined and said we had to keep the check for a party of 4 together. Her tone was arguementative, she was rolling her eyes and she looked extremely annoyed to be at work. For years I have been supporting the other Bossa Nova locations, Pico and Robertson. Sunset I've only visited twice but after last night I will never visit any of them again. I will also tell all of my friends and family not to either. Great food spoiled by disgusting service and attitude.

The food was alright. The steak was good, but the fried plantains were rock hard and so was the yuka. The atmosphere was bad, and the service decent at best. A server dropped a steak knife on my lap staining my pants and didn't even apologize.

The hostess Marta is very nice. She's Brazilian but speaks English fluently. The place has not only authentic Brazilian food but also excellent Italian pasta dishes. The taste is authentic Italian food. And their prices are very good. And the place is opened everyday until 0300am!

I LOVE ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PLACE!! Another place recommended by a fellow Arkansan! Absolutely love the vibe! We scored a table on the patio which was right on Sunset Blvd! Crazy scene walking over under a BEAUTIFUL moonlight sky! It included a 10 minute walk from the hotel passing the homeless people & the group smoking pot! This place is very popular and the wait was just long enough for us to view the extremely wide variety of people who live in this neighborhood! The restaurant is on the very location of the original Famous Amos Cookie Bakery! It has a HUGE menu and is more than reasonably priced. All entries are under $30, but most were $15 - $20. Our waiter, whose name was Dash and from Texas(ask for him), understood our language, recommended the bacon wrapped chicken appetizer. He also suggested a Syrah wine from Edna Valley! It was excellent! My girlfriend ordered Brazilian Chicken Skewers with black Beans and Fried Plantains. I had a rich, very spicy shrimp and chicken pasta dish called Manuella's Cream Sauce and I told him to surprise me with the pasta choice, which turned out to be fettuccine! HUGE PORTIONS!! I highly recommend this place for your dining choice in Hollywood! Everything was delicious! This is a fabulous place to experience a Hollywood dinner!!!

Food was great. The grilled chicken was cooked to perfection. It is more than enough to eat. I would recommend this place to friends.

you know It's been while I didn't eat in this restaurant and to be honest I'm totally disappointed To a start they're asking everyone after midnight minimum consum To me at places that have a show or something to take addvantage of the place they're in the right to be asking for a minimum consum Second you have to pay in advance this is the last time I come to this place

Everything was amazing !! Too bad it's just a small place they should definitely remodel and go bigger !! It's worth it

I am extremely disappointed! I’ve eaten serval times at this location and NEVER been treated so rude! I understand you may have people that run out on you, but to be judged so rudely is unacceptable!!! Shame on you and your ridiculous staff! This is NOT ok!! I hope your manager will contact me!!! The lady I spoke with was horrible!!! I will wait for your response!

My sister and I LOVED our experience. We used valet, the gentleman was very friendly. It was a busy evening (BET Awards), but we waited all of 5-10min tops despite it being a full house. Our waitress, Margharita, was very very prompt, vivacious, and attentive. The food was amazing! We cleared our app and entree plates completely! I used to hit up Bossa whenever I was in town, but it had been at least 5 years and I'm so glad I did. Yum!

Favorite Restaurant! Excellent food and drinks. I highly recommend it for anyone visiting the city

My dish was delicious- Beef Stroganoff with white rice and plantains. It reminded of my mothers homemade Beef Stroganoff 😋🤗

A Taste of Brazil in West Hollywood

As Brazilian living in U.S I’m always looking for nice Brazilians restaurants to eat when I travel around, a friend took me to Bossa Nova and I was impressed with the food and service there.

Very friendly staff, in a nice area in Hollywood, and the price was good. If you are in Hollywood and want to have a taste of Brazil, Bossa Nova is the option.

The wait here is going to be usually pretty long. The food is worth the wait. We have given up waiting before and gone to some of the nearby restaurants and regretted it. The service is quick and friendly.
Jeston R
The food is good, service is great and drinks are alright. I want to give 5 stars, but there is a couple things (little things) sauces need to be a little thicker, not so runny, dinner bread could be a little fresher (not that its not, just always a little crunchy), other than that, food is generally good, they have a good selection, and its a very nice and even romantic place

Awesome pasta and service! After a long day service was awesome and pasta was amazing too!

Food: 4/5
Service: 4.5/5
Ambience: 4/5
Value For Money: 3.5/5
Overall: 4/5

My nephew, a longtime LA resident, hosted dinner for us here. It is ideal for groups as the portions are large enough to be shared. We particularly enjoyed the pasta and pizza.

The vegan selection come with a check mark on the menu. I ordered the avocado toast. If you like avocado with an amazing pesto its yummy... a bit overpriced. The veggie burger has a nice crisp and good flavor bit was missing a hearty feek but the arugula was a beautiful addition. Also the shoestring fries were decent.. The chicken club comes with avocado.. seems like everything comes with avocado . THE VEGGIES were perfectly seasoned and I ordered a pitcher of red sangria.. 14 dollars for 2 glasses or 25 for the pitcher. No brainer..

Awesome pasta and service

After a long day at Universal Studios we found this gem on Sunset Boulevard still open and busy with locals ... a good vibe? Yes! The service was awesome and after a reasonable wait our pizza and pasta was ready! Being our 2nd night in LA it was awesome to eat local to our BNB and soak up this great venue and patrons... then enjoy!

I had the shrimp pasta this location serves some of the best fettuccine in West Hollywood the chef really knows how to cook the Delivery Swift about one hour which isn't bad on the Saturday in West Hollywood at three in the morning this place delivers till 4 AM morning

Best Brazilian cuisine I've had with many selections to choose from other than churrasco.

I've been multiple visits and everything I've tried so far has been excellent in terms of flavor and portion. The service is also great whether its a slow or busy day. I've even come when the line is wrapped around the building at 2am and received excellent service from the friendly staff. The servers also have great knowledge of the entrees so if you come across anything that isn't familiar, don't hesitate to ask what it is. The best dishes I've had here so far are the filet mignon with brown risoto and the pink seafood resoto. Absolutely delicious!!!

The ambiance is chill with a mix of younger, older and family oriented groups dining within. This place is for any and everyone looking to have a awesome dining experience with many selections of authentic Brazilian dishes that shows there's more to Brazilian cuisine other than just grilled meats.

Visit dates 3/13/2015, 11/16/2014 and 9/28/2014

I had the burger and it was just ok. It was really huge which was great since it was a little expensive, but it was just mediocre. Plantains were meh too.

Only been once but I was impressed. For being a relatively small place, they easily accommodated our large group. I ordered some sort of pasta with shrimp and small bits of bacon in it. It was incredible!!!

Canadian fan of Bossa Nova. I make a point of ordering delivery from here almost every time I'm in LA (which is a few times a year), love the carnival salad and their pizza is delicious!

No good, took forever and tasted terrible and dry. Messed up order and forgot side dishes. NO GO. EVER.

True Brazilian. Went to this place not sure what to expect, and totally blown away by authentic Brazilian or some of you may refer as South American food. Server was very helpful in describing some of the authentic preparation as I have never heard of them, they also have wide range of vegetarian options, please inform your server about your allergies or dietary needs as they are very helpful to accommodate our request regarding gluten- free options. Overall wonderful experience

Brazilian Cuisine - Foodie with Food Allergies. This place is the best to bring out of town guests to for dinner, or a very late dinner. Traditional BRazilian hours, open late. The food is amazing !!! They even have a chocolate pizza?

Always inform your server of severe food allergies. If you have had an allergic reaction within the last few months I recommend waiting to eat here (just because they use such a wide array of flavors and ingredients), you’ll want to beware if your histamine levels are high.

Otherwise go for it. I always order the Vegetarian plate with fries (you also have the option of fried bananas called plantain fries). It’s a big portion and I go home with leftovers for the next day. It includes salad, grilled veggies, fries, mashed potato, and this crumbly delicious stuff that is awesome mixed with ketchup. I haven’t had a reaction eating this option.

Manja!

Nice. Tastes good

Brazilian or Italian?. I am a fan of Brazilian; but this place can’t seem to make up its mine. There is an extensive array of pastas and pizza, which probably helps the takeout and delivery business. However, the real Brazilian portion of the menu is one to the restaurants best kept secrets. Once you fine the more traditional meals on the next to last page of the menu, you won’t be disappointed. Try the Steak with rice and black beans I thoroughly enjoyed the favor and for the price it is an excellent value for the meal. Will return to explore the extensive menu.

NOT brazilian. Forst of all, this place is not brazilian food. friendly service and okay food tho...perfect if you are a late eater.

Our go to place when we can't decide. My husband and I will run into that situation where there's nothing to eat in the house, it's late, and we're starving. Bossa Nova is always our tie breaker. They have EVERYTHING and do everything well. My personal favorite is the beef stroganoff. Pizza is good and they even have a dessert pizza that is awesome. They're open late which is very convenient.
Cascadejunkie
Its pretty good, but it's not really a Brazilian restaurant. Don't get me wrong, the food is good, but the menu seems to be mostly pasta and pizza. The few "Brazillian" entrees weren't really all that authentic, but still pretty good. Decent value and beer selection, too.

Brazilian Cuisine. Bossa Novas on Sunset Blvd is a Brazilian restaurant that was established fifteen years ago in Los Angeles, CA. The name Bossa Novas originates from a Brazilian style of music. So far, they have managed to open five restaurant chains in the West Los Angeles Area. Bossa Novas' agricultural structure is uniquely shaped like a triangle house. Upon entering the restaurant you're greeted instantly by the doorman and host. This place exemplifies the true essence of a Brazilian restaurant. The menu contains plantains, fried yucca, Spanish rice, black beans, Coxinha, Kibes, and Bolinhos de Bacalhau. I know these names are unknown, but they are traditional dishes made in Latin America. They also offer zesty pizzas, grilled dishes, sandwiches, salads, and creamy pasta dishes. The kitchen faces the entrance and is covered in steel countertops and busy chefs. Nevertheless, it's full of life and a bit noisy. Bossa Novas is known as "the after-party spot" because they are opened until 4 am on Fridays and Saturdays. The furniture in the indoors area is made out of wood, the outdoors eatery has black metal furniture and plastic wall coverings. Recommended dishes (to name a few) are the Greek Salad, Pink Seafood Risotto, Pink Pescatore, Cabonara, Lamb Skewers, and the Breaded Chicken.

Honestly, I love everything on this menu. Sometimes, I just go here to have one of their mouthwatering salads or I have them deliver a full meal to my doorsteps at one o'clock in the morning. The only thing I can complain about is the waiters. Depending on how busy it is, they sometimes get the orders wrong or forget to bring me their complimentary bread with vinegar and oil. This has happened twice out of twenty times that I've visited. However, this doesn't bother me at all because I understand how busy they can get. This is a very popular restaurant with decent prices. Bossa Novas is so popular that it was mentioned in a song last year called "I'm in L.A. trick" from group "LMAFO." Every Los Angeles residents knows about Bossa Novas. If you are visiting Los Angeles, Bossa Novas is definitely the place to visit.

Bosa Nova (Hollywood Location). Usually a great experience in WEHO or West LA. But buyer beware in Hollywood! I'm right on the delivery line between Hollywood and West Hollywood and boy is there a difference. The food from the Hollywood location is almost always wrong! And they NEVER redeliver. I end up having perpetual credits there for food that I then have to then pick up, because they will only redeliver if you PAY for it - even though it is there mistake in the first place. I don't usually write comments but, this sour experience has been confirmed by other friends of mine too. Also, that location is not the best for dining in. The staff are nice. The delivery guys are nice and fast. The MANAGEMENT (someone named Nina) seems determined to ruin the experience for the customers - very strange. I definitely feel like I'm playing Russian Roulette with my credit card when I call for take out. Be Afraid - very afraid!

One of my favorite spots in LA! Great food and stays open late. Can get a little crowded on weekends though.

Good food knowledgable staff. You can tell that the employees here really enjoy their jobs and what they do. They are friendly and knowledgeable. Food was good and we intend on going back.

Great Late Night. Love this place for late night dinning with a great atmosphere. Reminds me of brazilian cafes back home..

The best restaurant we've seen so far in Hollywood! Gorgeous food, excellent service - very personal and hands-on - and very reasonably priced. Don't let the look of the place put you off, this is a hidden gem.

Bad. The food is NOT traditional brazilian food, It is greasy!
I personally did not like it at all!
The cheese bread "pao de queijo" is disgusting, all oil, please do not order that!
I was very disappointed! It is not brazilian food for sure!
Sergio
Terrible Delivery. We waited around for 2 hours without a call until the food finally arrived cold, poorly packaged, and uneatable.
Food was spewing into the bags and made people very upset here at my company who ordered.
Unacceptable.

Great food!..picanha delicioso..black beans rice n plantains..yumm..

I love it. This location has a noticably trendy/hip clientele. (which has it's pros and cons!)

Great food! Large variety of dishes. Customer service is great they don't let your drinks go dry. They're on it. But they did forget to provide me with silverware when I sat down & up until I got my plate...I had to steal a fork from the empty table beside us before I could even enjoy the meal. The fettucine Alfredo with chicken was great...well made. Passion fruit juice was good too, but tasted store bought...handmade is always best at brazilian restaurants.

I use to live in LA and the food here has always been really good, except the carbanara!! But my most recent trip while planning my move back to LA from NY, I am amazed with quality of the service for the fist time!!! It use to be horrible service but good food and open late, now it hass great service, well at least this trip. No matter what the best late night spot around. (Fernando was my server)

I really enjoyed this place. Being from out of town, this was a great find that wasn't a chain. The food was yummy & the service was great.

MMmm Good. This place has great food, and such a variety too. Not to mention they are open late. Dine in or Take out you'll def. be satisfied. I love the BBQ chicken salad and an order of plantains.

For the longest time, I wanted to eat at Bossa Nova. I always plan on eating there for lunch or dinner, but something else comes up or I go eat somewhere else. Finally, I made it here and the experience was pleasant. The only brazilian food I am used to is the BBQ. Whether it be M Grill in Koreatown or Fogo de Chao in Beverly Hills, the endless meat is what I go for. Maybe that is what kept me hesitant about Bossa Nova for so long. The Sunset location was somewhat packed that night with a 30 minute wait. Waiting all that for semi-outdoor seating was a bummer. After the food came out, I wasn’t really complaining. The night started off with complimentary bread. Not particularly a favorite, the bread was a bit boring. It wasn’t really soft, warm, or chewy — it didn’t have any qualities of being good bread. It felt like they served it just because. Not that there isn’t anything wrong with that, it was free afte all. The chicken brochette is probably the most decadent thing I had in a while

Blame it on the Bossa Nova! And I did for years... Once upon a birthday five or six years ago, my parents and younger sister were in town. I had to work the next day, so we decided to order delivery from Bossa Nova. Two and a half hours later, the food st

One of the guilty pleasures of my recent insomniac trend is that at least I get to partake in Los Angeles' late-night dining scene. I convinced my brother (sick again -- I told him they had soup) to accompany me to Bossa Nova as I was in a serious burger
