Nice little neighborhood coffee joint. Not as big and bustling as Portfolio, and not open as late either. It's a good daytime place if you want a quieter atmosphere than Hot Java or Portfolio and prefer a clean modern aesthetic over The Library's dark boho atmosphere. I've been here a few times and have always enjoyed their coffee, but it's just enough out of my way that I don't come here that often. They do have some pastries and food, but not a big selection.

The espresso here is fantastic. It's very balanced and has a smooth finish. Their customer service is great but I think the barista who served me needs a little more training at the bar. I asked for a dry cap and he made me a latte... I asked him to remake it, which he did with no complaints(which is awesome because I work at a Coffeeshop and I know how annoying that can be). The second time around it might have passed as a wet cap but there was still an awful lot of milk.

I'm out here in Long Beach for a big tournament. I googled 'good coffee in long beach' and this place came up. It is awesome! The two dudes that worked there were super cool and the coffee kicked ass! I'm headed back here with my roommates now to give them a taste of awesomeness!

Makai Coffee is my go to spot for coffee when in the Long Beach area. Their baristas are second to none, order yourself a latte and watch the careful attention paid to make your caffeinated drink. Grab a spot, sit down and marvel at the drink you just ordered. If you ordered a latte then you may not want to disturb the latte art. But do so and your taste buds and body will be gently woken up be the aroma and depth of flavor from the cup you are savoring. Writing this makes me want to go grab a cup right now.

[Update: this place is closed down, it's now deja brew] Tried this spot like 6 times now. Staff always seems unpleasant. The coffee is nothing special and over priced, you can find less expensive and similer or even better tasting coffee at shops in the same area. Though the bathroom is kept really clean.

This place is legit. If you demand good coffee in your life, this is the place for you. They feature roasters from all over the country and can't be beat on price, quality or friendly atmosphere.

First off this place has great coffee. It's a small store with cafeteria style seating, so it's not all that comfortable to lounge around in or work (though it didn't seem to be stopping g the locals)
