To be completely transparent, I'm a regular at the scone lady coffee shop, I've been going there daily, for 3 or 4 years now, probably longer. I imagine, if you are reading this you are interested in finding a quality coffee shop that is the spirit of Lawrence (L.F.K.) a place that is personalable, a place that you can study or can conduct a meeting without distraction. While at the same time enjoying a cup of freshly roasted coffee, maybe a tea, perhaps a study snack. A place that you can call "your place" on a date.
This isn't a corporate chain, that gives fancy names to low quality, watered down drinks, nor is it a place that buys their baked goods in mass amounts, only to sell at a later date.. Everything happens in house, or is resourced locally to the best of their abilities. Privately owned and operated by a husband and wife, that support the local community of Lawrence. If for whatever reason your beverage isn't to your liking, they will gladly fix it or just make you a new one. It's just the two of them, that work there and sometimes life happens and they have to close early or can't open.
Let's be real.... the main reason we go to a coffee shop is because we need our fix. Something to start our day, something to give us that little bit of a push into our second wind after lunch, or a pick me up before a long evening/night ahead of us. Sometimes we are in a rush and sometimes we want to take it slow and enjoy the moment, with a casual conversation. Everyone is different, and thus may feel, think, or believe that the experience of a coffee shop "should be" this way or that. That being said, imagine yourself behind that counter, competing with generic cookie cutter corporate companies. Having to deal with that overwhelming pressure, as a local privately owned and operated business owner while still trying to make everyone happy, all the while trying to run a profitable business, and support a family. Yeah...! it's a lot To imagine, right? I know just after reading a few of the reviewers on here, the thought of throat punching, a low quality, entitled, wanna be, hipster, yuppie, piece of trash, looking for a free hand out, definitely became more present in my mind. Yet they're still respectful and have not assaulted anyone or threatened them verbally or physically for that matter. I don't know that I would have the same restraint.
In conclusion, I think what makes me give the scone lady coffee shop 5 star's are the facts, their flexibility, attention to details, their commitment to quality products, the positive energy, and atmosphere they generate. The effort they put into creating a clean environment, not to mention all of the time, and resources that they put into everything around them as well as the coffee shop. If for whatever reason you don't believe me go in and try them out.
