After reading about this place in the Weekly, we could not wait to go. It took a minute to find it...the location is kinda hidden in a big strip mall (Sahara & Decatur)...this restaurant should be front & center! The service was excellent and the food is some of the best & most authentic Mexican food we’ve ever had! It’s all about flavor, freshness and quality! We literally wanted to order everything on the menu but chose fish tacos, asada tacos, empanada and the shrimp ceviche tostada. Everything was huge! As soon as we tasted the fresh chips & salsa we knew this was going to be an epic meal! The fish tacos were stuffed full of fried fish, crunchy cabbage, fresh pico and topped with cool crema. The asada street tacos were tender and full of flavor. The empanada was giant! Filled with shredded beef, cool, crisp lettuce, melty cheese and topped generously with cotija cheese—it was delicious. But my favorite was the shrimp tostada. Served ceviche style, I could easily eat 6 of those all day, everyday. Tender, citrusy, juicy shrimp with tomatoes, onions and cilantro on a crispy tostada.
If you’re looking for quality, authentic, fresh Mexican food that is packed full of flavor with big portions that will fill you up with reasonable prices, run don’t walk to Playa Papagayos!
This place has the best authentic homemade Méxican food in town. The chef puts his soul into the food. Everything on the menu taste as if your Mexican mom made it.
Great service and great food. As soon as you enter in the restaurant the smells are so great. Their menu is very large. You can have dinner plates, seafood and appetizers. Tortillas tastes great and the pineapple water is 100% natural! I loved eating here and you’ll love it too. (I ordered a fish taco, shrimp taco and a asada taco)
Bomb spot. Everything was delicious. Try the camarones a diabla, it is so spicy and so good! Tortillas hecho de mano, and the service is friendly!!!
It's hard for me to find a good, let alone an excellent authentic Mexican restaurant that I like, but Playa Papagayos is that authentic fresh Mexican restaurant that will make your taste buds dance and sing. I ordered the torta cuban and while it was what I am accustomed to, it was delicious.
This place is a rare find, hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant in town. They have some of the best fish Tacos I have ever had and the staff is super friendly. The chef even came out to chat when he had a moment, which added the the experience.
The place might be a little messy and feel a little cheap, but if you can get past that you will have one of the best Mexican meals in Las Vegas. On this particular visit I ordered a Huarache con Huevos. The fresh Masa was nice and crisp, the eggs which I ordered over medium were perfectly cooked and the Chile Verde salsa enhanced the dish without overwhelming. The tostada de pulpo was light and fresh and the octopus was not overly chewy.
I will definitely return.
First off I am from Colton CA, and they have a location near me that is my go to spot for michalada's and great food every time! So I came to Vegas to get married and naturally I wanted good Mexican food, so we came to papagyos here and OMG the food was so good better then the one at home!! I had menudo and my my husband had the shrimp with hand made tortilla!!! I could have ate like 4 more bowls. The staff is attentive and the cook has passion you can definitely taste in the food, I have had everything on the menu at home so I'm positive anything you try would be great here!! If you are in Vegas and want great authentic Mexican food at a great price I would head here no doubt. FYI we stayed at Excalibur and it was 4.9 miles away took us less then 10 minutes to get there
I was at Federal Express and I saw the truck for the restaurant didn't know it was even there. So we went over there and had lunch. Alberto is very kind and the food was amazing and very inexpensive.
Love this place.
A few months ago I was looking for a more authentic Mexican experience closer to the office and found this gem.
The food here is amazing. Clean, fresh and full of flavor. Everything I have tried has been fantastic. All of the people I have brought here have become regulars on their own.
The prices are more than affordable. I believe the street tacos are all of 1.50 and most of the full plates are in the 8-10 range.
The servers here are very friendly and have a family vibe. They are always attentive without being too obtrusive.
If you are looking for great Mexican food, Playa is worth a try.
Love this place! Excellent food and the service is amazing. Empanada is my favorite!
Really has a nice dinner and great service. The huarache was really tasty and a great size. The only thing I would change is that the pork wasn't as tender as I would have liked it. The campechana was really good and I had wishes I had asked for a bigger one. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have oysters that night but I will be sure to call next time before we go again. They have a very extensive menu and I look forward to going to eat here again soon to try some more delicious food. I definitely recommend this place for good authentic Mexican food!!! Try it, you'll like it, I promise!!!😍😍😍
First time I ordered yesterday and it won’t be the last time. The ceviche was delicious and the Fettuccine Alfredo a la Diabla was amazing. They aren’t afraid to make it spicy lol.
Had I known how great this place is, I would have ordered a long time ago :)
