Review The Black Sheep - Las Vegas

Priscilla S
Loved it here! Food and service were excellent. I am Filipino and some of the dishes were familiar yet it was better/more elevated and I really respected that. This restaurant is located out of the way of the strip, but we made the trip and so glad we did. We are fans of Chef Jamie from Top Chef so we just had to try. Highly recommend the fried beef crisps and fried whole rainbow trout.

Tucked into the corner of this nearly missed strip mall in Las Vegas is an amazing gem of a restaurant. I am sure there are plenty of great reviews. Opening for dinner promptly at 5pm., the Black Sheep invitingly welcomed us in for a treat. Celebrating an anniversary, we traveled a little over 400 miles to try this place. We started with the Salmon Tacos and Imperial Rolls. Check our pics. For an entree, we shared the Short Ribs. The service was very attentive, friendly, and prompt. The atmosphere is clean and comfortably spaced. All of this made enjoying each dish even better. Everything is so beautifully presented and the flavors matched perfectly. We certainly traveled back home on our nearly 6 hour drive wanting more and hope to make it back next year to do it again. Worth the trip, we didn’t eat as much due to the journey back. Give this low-key location a try for a great food and dining. experience.

we came to Los Angeles to eat good food with my friend. but this place blew my mind, you can feel the quality, discipline and passion in every bite. What an incredible experience. Also, the cocktails are very good. Thanks to the chef and her amazing staff for this night.

Don’t judge a restaurant by its location. We had heard about the amazing food at the Black Sheep, but were surprised at the strip mall local. My husband and I shared a couple appetizers and a main dish as we weren’t that hungry, but I could have eaten everything myself. I have a gluten sensitivity and most things on the menu work for me. Our waiter, Joel was wonderfully knowledgeable about the menu and guided me through it. We began with the salmon skin tacos. Delectably and delicately crunchy, with salmon filling nicely seasoned. Next we shared the imperial rolls. Just yum. So crunchy, filled with tender pork and shrimp. We chose the slow braised short rib for the main dish. The mouthwatering rich beefy flavor was a treat for my tastebuds. The spicy—to me, not my husband-kimchi rice was a nice foil for the richness of the short rib. A wonderful experience. Highly recommend if you like thoughtful menu, expertly prepared. Note that the menu pictured will change, according to our waiter Joel.

Ok, honestly, I didn't like almost any of my food, BUT that was due to my preferences rather than the food quality. My dinner mates liked some things. One like seafood, so did like a couple of dishes that had fish or shrimp. She didn't like the spicy dishes. The other mate loved everything. She likes seafood and spicy food and thought the quality was amazing. So if you like spicy food and seafood, this may be a favorite for you. If you don't, like me, you will need to order a steak, and it will taste ok. The cocktails were great. Interesting and creative and delicious. There is a full bar, too. I was treated to dinner, so I didn't catch the whole bill, but appetizers and dinners and cocktails for 3 ran $250 plus tip, at $300 total.

The food is amazing here at The Black Sheep. I came with 3 people and we had a blast from start to finish. Some of the choices were very interesting, from salmon skin tacos to an out of this world Heirloom tomato salad with an Asian twist. The entrée was divine. We took one of each, and they were exquisite. The drinks were just as good. Great place to come visit. Highly recommended!!!!

The food and level of service outshines many of the stirps upscale options. The spiced yogurt sauce which comes with the "calamari" was perfectly balanced, meaning my taste buds were effortless cycling through the distinct yet complimentary flavors and sensations within each bite. A kelidoscope of Lime, sweet, hot, cool, tangy, & nutty. Everything else is great too but I'm using up your attention on the calamari sauce.

Hmm, usually I have a strong opinion on restaurants, but The Black Sheep left me a bit underwhelmed. Maybe I had too high expectations. The food was good and creative and prices are fair. I had the Salmon Skin Tacos that could have used a bit salt, but overall tasted good. It was not the most exciting I ever had, although it has potential. The Braised short ribs with kimchi fried rice as a main course killed it, while the chocolate cake desert again was a bit bland. Service was super friendly and fast. What disappointed me probably most was the uninspired interior with a wall of empty picture frames and no attention to detail. Most disturbing I found that owner and former top chef contestant Jamie Tran was present but seemed glued Tina spot behind the bar spending 80% of the time on her phone where she could have either be in the kitchen or welcome the guests and be really present or not visible. Food and drinks for one person was roughly 100 USD but since off the beaten tracks I also payed more than 50 dollars for transportation back and forth. Overall good, but below expectations.

Absolutely one of the best meals we've ever had. Unfortunately it takes some work to get there as a tourist - Uber wasn't super convenient from the Strip, but it's absolutely worth the effort.

I was recommended this place by my brother and boy was it worth it. The Black Sheep provides a modern twist to Asian fusion. Flavours and umami was prevalent in every bite. Had to order 2 servings of the fish skin tacos as they were so good. The braised ribs and jowl were moist and fell apart. Flavour profiles were very rich, but it was well supplemented by the rice and noodles. Cocktails were also delicious. I would highly recommend the black sheep to anyone. Definitely coming back next time I'm in vegas

Love this place. The service is great, and the menu changes every season. I have been coming here for years, and I am a big fan of their food. I love the Asian fusion that it offers, and the service here is impeccable. I would suggest making a reservation unless you are coming in around 5 pm. This place tends to get packed, and it's because it's great! We ordered their lamb dumplings, octopus, for appetizer, and ordered the ribeye and NY for the main course and followed by desert. They also offer really good cocktails here, I recommend you try at least once.

This restaurant was on my bucket list for a long time and I am happy I finally got a chance to check it out. Chef Tran is freaking genius. Highly recommend trying multiple dishes. Absolutely loved the short rib with kimchi friend rice and the ribeye steak. They also have some interesting and delicious cocktails. Highly highly recommend this place when I’m Vegas.

We had a lovely experience at Black Sheep Friday night. Our server was very friendly and took the time to go over the menu with us since it was our 1st time there. We shared the salmon skin tacos and bao sliders for appetizers and they were excellent. I had the whole fried rainbow trout which I enjoyed, especially the sauce and rainbow swiss chard which complimented the fish perfectly. My husband had the pork jowl with tumeric noodles which he loved. For dessert we shared the chocolate tres leches cake with Vietnamese coffee whipped cream which was beyond good. Will definitely be back!

This was a bucket list dining experience. Chef Tran's menu is just a perfect balance of flavors. We shared several small plates and not once did we ever feel like the dishes were fighting against each other. The service was outstanding. We never went without and it was obvious that our experience was important to them. Do not sleep on the Steak Tartare, even if you're not a fan of it in general. Order it and experience it. Not one single miss on the menu.

So glad I can support local chef owned and operated restaurants. They always have that personal touch that makes the experience amazing. Yes, this is the restaurant by Chef Tran featured on Top Chef Portland. Menu is creative and everything is packed with flavor. I must return to make my way a little further, especially through the starters. Service was on point. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. They really have a family like atmosphere between them all, and it feels like we just happened to be invited to dinner with them. Book a table well in advance, walk-ins take their chances with open seating at the bar.

A wonderful dining experience. The wait staff was friendly and chef Jamie (who was on top chef) was kind enough to have a conversation with us. The food too was incredible! Definitely worth a trip off the strip

We made a last minute reservation at the Black Sheep tonight. After a quick search on Google Reviews and Yelp, we decided to give this place a shot! Plus, they were able to seat us immediately, which was a huge plus - especially for two hungry adults. The staff was kind, helpful and incredibly knowledgeable of the menu. We went with a majority of her recommendations, and let's just say, everything was so good. My personal favorite was the Braised Pork Jowl, which was served on top of turmeric flat noodles, sautéed Chinese broccoli, sesame seed crumble and spicy garlic chili oil. The noodles were al dente and fresh - literally cooked to perfection, if you asked me. I was a big fan of it. The pork jowl was also tender, moist and well marinated as well. Honestly, my mouth is already starting to water thinking about how delicious it was. We also got the Salmon Skin Tacos, which were filled with salmon belly tartare. Big fans. Absolutely stunning. It didn't taste overpowering and felt really well crafted to be honest. We couldn't help, but wonder how they constructed such a magnificent creation. Yup, it was that good. My partner got the Prime NY Strip Loin and that was also a table favorite too. The dish was perfectly cooked in medium rare and served on an incredible bed of mushrooms and cauliflower while drizzled in a delicious seasonal mushroom puree. The biggest surprise of the evening were the fried beef crisps, which were basically deep fried beef tendons drizzled with Thai chili Tajin dust and chili lime sauce. I'd say the texture and flavor reminded me of pork chicharrones. We almost ordered a second place, as it was just that good! Overall, we're big fans of the Black Sheep. The place was also clean and modern. The vibe was cute, but not too stuffy. There were definitely a few dates, as well as group dinners when we went. We'd go again in a heartbeat!

1st time here. This place is amazing. It is small but the service and food was excellent. We ordered appetizers and entrées and shared. The alcohol drinks were delicious too.

Very unique little find. We were looking for a nice spot to have a bite & glass of wine in this corner of the valley and Black Sheep did not disappoint. The braised short ribs were like none I’ve had in the past. I didn’t leave a bite! If you’re a bit more adventurous with your taste buds, (nothing crazy) and enjoy a quaint yet peaceful ambiance, you need to check this place out! The only negative was parking was super rough and service for this level of establishment, lacked a bit for the price.

Been to Black Sheep about 5-6 times now. The food is amazing. Best Duck confit and Octopus I’ve had in years. Staff is great and the bar is always on point! I highly recommend this place. One of the best local spots in town!

I thought the service was incredible, so huge thank you to our server and bartender. The food was not anything to write home about. For a higher price point, I was surprised to received deep fried octopus and a not-so-yummy oyster (only one kind, no selection) not even served over ice. It seemed slightly under-par for being $50 per person. I don't know if I would recommend anyone try this place out, honestly.

Phenomenal, from start to finish. From a friendly greeting from Max behind the bar (who makes some mean cocktails - don't settle for a wine pour) throughout our entire service, it was first class all the way. Make sure to get the salmon skin tacos, bao sliders, imperial rolls... well, just about everything. If you like a little heat, the Spicy Vietnamese Curry Chicken can't be beat (also available as a vegan dish), and make sure not to ignore the details like the delicately-flavored asian pears and turnip greens that accompany the short rib. Well done, chef and crew!

The Black Sheep has been open nearly 4 months in my neighborhood. I drive past it almost daily and decided to check it out. Beforehand, I read many, many rave reviews. My experience exceeded anything I could've expected. The restaurant is beautiful, very chill atmosphere. Service was impeccable. Danielle treated us like family, very well versed in the menu and wine list. Max, at the bar, mixed us some AMAZING cocktails. Chef Jaime dazzled us with food! Every single item we order was beautifully presented and soooooo delicious. The four of us ordered a dozen oysters, Hamachi Crudo, Heirloom and Watermelon Salad, and Spicy Chicken Wings. We nibbled and drink and chatted. Every single dish was FABULOUS!! We shared the Braised Duroc Pork Belly entree. The pork belly was like butter, served atop Swiss chard with a cherry accent. Dessert came - Tres Leche....I am speechless!! We will most definitely be back and I would highly recommend The Black Sheep!!!

A-maze-ballz! From start (grilled octopus) to middle (scallops) to finish (rocky road brownie) the food was amazing. Our waiter was friendly and funny and the bartender kicked ass. Made me TWO great mocktails to enjoy. Would and WILL definitely recommend this to anyone and everyone I know!

Great place! Highly recommend :) We ordered the Salmon tacos and a Steak dinner, plus the Salmon dinner as well Everything was delicious! I also noticed many water glasses weren’t served with a plastic straw. I liked that too. Can’t wait to go back!

Place has great food amazing drinks and friendly staff that go out of there way to make you feel welcome. I would highly recommend this place to anyone it’s great to see smaller restaurants really coming out and doing what this place has done.

Nice ambience and atmosphere. Excellent service but most of all delicious food. The bao sliders, Vietnamese imperial rolls, crispy Mediterranean octopus and their rib eye were on point . Will definitely be back and oh their $1 each oyster for happy hour was a bonus!

My husband took me here on "date night" on the recommendation of one of his customers. This place is phenomenal! Executive Chef Jamie Tran is extremely talented. Our meals were more interesting and better-tasting than any we've had in "high-end" restaurants on The Strip. And the adorable, hipster bartender made the best extra dirty Bombay Sapphire martini I've had in this city! We're definitely going back!

An absolute gem. Consistently excellent food and service. The cocktail menu is innovative and exceptional - try the Black Manhattan as an aperitif and do the Vietnamese Espresso Martini with dessert. Food wise - Pork belly sliders and the Short Rib will never be surpassed. Quite simply, exquisite.

Dessert was good and server was decent. But I don’t feel I got what I paid for. Had the flank steak, was too rare, and I’ve had better tasting steak for half the price. Appetizer was more like a sample, and overall feel was awkward.

My husband and I had dinner this past weekend for our anniversary at The Black Sheep. The dinner and service were top notch. We were promptly greeted at the door and had champagne glasses ready at our table. We had the oysters, Viatnamese imperial rolls, fried beef crisps and the peach salad as appetizers. Everything was delicious and very fresh. For dinner I had the lemongrass jerk chicken and my husband had the short rib. The chicken was very tender and flavorful; it was paired perfectly with the green papaya salad. The short rib was also very flavorful and tender. The drink are also ridiculously delicious. The Black Sheep is definitely a restaurant we will be recommending to friends and family. Amazing dining experience.

Great spot! Cool vibes and awesome staff. Short rib entree was delicious and bao sliders were super tasty (although we didn't love the fried lotus root on the side). Fried octopus was very unique- the sauce was unlike anything I've had before. Grilled peach salad was good, but nothing special. I tried one of their cocktails but it was too sweet- server kindly swapped it out for a glass of wine. We'll definitely be back to try other things :)

Appetizers very good. Tried the Imperial Rolls, Octopus, Bao Rolls, and Ahi. My fave were the Imperial Rolls. Had the ribeye which was tender and excellent. The sunchoke croquette that accompanied the ribeye was a flavorful side with some really nice texture. The desserts were ok. Tried the Tres Leches, Creme Brulee and Rocky Road. I like a thick, creamy creme brulee and this one was a bit more of a pudding consistency. The service was very good too. Bronson was very thorough. P.S. The cocktails were good too.

So worth the 2 hour drive from st. George Utah. The food was all so good and the service spot on.

Incredible Dining Experience We ordered the whole menu Highly recommend going Best new spot in Las Vegas.

Wonderful, unique food . The people were fun and the service was top notch. From the food preparers to the servers to the bartender-each approached their roles as professionals and artists
