GOOD, SPICY MEXICAN FOOD IN A TAKEOUT RESTAURANT

First off, Go Burger cannot be ranked among the Mexican food restaurants in town because there is no indoor dining. You get takeout or you sit on the steel picnic tables out front. BUT, THE QUALITY OF THE MEXICAN FOOD SERVED AT GO BURGER IS PROBABLY IN THE TOP FIFTEEN AROUND TOWN.

So, don't be fooled by the name "Go Burger" as this is primarily a Mexican food restaurant. There is parking alongside the building, but parking can be difficult if they are busy. The parking spots are covered to keep the sun off. (I usually don't go there in the summer.) Step up to the front window and order from the board on the front of the restaurant. They call your number when the food is ready. They also have a drive-up window. Sometimes the food is prepared quickly and other times not so quick. Regulars often phone in their orders. Prices are very reasonable.

Go Burger is of course FAMOUS FOR THEIR VERY LARGE BURRITOS. They do offer other New Mex food and generally it is high on the heat.

If you order one of their "plates" ......meaning with rice and beans.....you'll find the rice decent and the refried beans just so-so.

Their red chile meat burrito is loaded with shredded pork and some diced potato. It is high on the heat scale. The chile relleno burrito is excellent. A delicious chile pepper is surrounded with some smooth refried beans and the texture of the beans is a perfect compliment to the crisp batter of the relleno. I like the green chile meat more than the red but both are very good. Their chimichangas are among the best around with a shell that is light and crispy and fried just right. Their chile rellenos are among the best. The stuffed sopapillas are very good also. I have not experienced any food at Go Burger that was not very good to excellent. (The burgers are also good.)

What to expect if you go: A takeout joint with food that may take a bit of time to get ready, burritos that are on the huge side, and food that is generally pretty "hot."  Overall, good food.

MEXICAN FOOD RATING = AROUND TOP FIFTEEN IN THE AREA. GOOD STUFF.

Restaurant rating = FOUR STARS.....DESPITE THE FACT THAT THERE IS NO INDOOR DINING. When you're in the mood for some hot and good Mexican food and you don't want to dine in....this is your place.

Go Burger was one of my favorite places to go when I came home for a visit. This time, I went for a green burrito. What the heck happened? Folks, lay off the cumin!! It was like a cumin green cumin burrito, can barely taste the green (which should be the star of the show) and it's all cumin. The relleno w/o beans was good, but what happened to the cheese inside the relleno? I would suggest going back to the old menu. You know, if it ain't broke.....

Lunch Rush. The food is great but it's not such a well kept secret so it gets busy at lunch time. If you only have an hour I'd call in your order so when you get there your food will be ready.

GOOD, MOSTLY "HOT" MEXICAN FOOD IN A TAKE-OUT RESTAURANT.

Mr. Sensitive would rate the food quality at this restaurant in the top ten for Mexican food restaurants around town******

This review has been updated to 2017.

The spoiled brat says, "You really need to learn.....I had to pay extra." "I wasn't happy." "Very bad food." Wow! The rantings of a spoiled child on the internet. Nothing of intelligence to be found there. Too bad we have to endure such things.

July 2017.......service was fine. Ordered the red chile meat burrito and a chimichanga stuffed with green chile. The red chile burrito was somewhat mild and had good flavor. It seemed a tad dry however. Yet, it was their standard very large burrito and for the money.....a great deal. Hard to beat that price. About $5.00!!!! Rate it a "B+."

The chimichanga was deep fried and crispy.....perhaps a tad overdone. But, the shell and the green chile filling (with potato chunks) were very good. The green chile was way up there on the heat scale......some of the hottest I've experienced. Mouth was on fire. This is definately one of your better chimichanga's around town. But....if you go green.....better expect them to bring the heat! Rate this bad boy an "A-."

And, imagine the goofball (posted on Yelp) who bought a burrito at Go Burger in September 2016 and let its filling drop all over his car seat......and then blamed the restaurant for this!!! This is the kind of crap you have to put up with on the net....especially on Yelp. Just amazing!  Because of this kind of vitriolic garbage Mr. Sensitive came into existence.  The good people of Las Cruces needed an alternative to this junk.

Now for some sanity and info you might actually find helpful:

****This review has been updated as of November 2015****

Stopped in in November 2015 and sampled their chile relleno, their stuffed sopapilla with green chile meat, and their red chile con carne burrito. The relleno was ONE OF THE MOST FLAVORFUL RELLENOS I'VE EVER TASTED. The chile and its batter had a wonderful flavor. The white thickly shredded cheese over the top was good also. This was a really good relleno....a bit soft....but delicious. Rate it an A-. The sopapilla was also a little soft....not as firm or crisp as I've had it previously, but it had a nice flavor. The green chile was very good. Rate this stuffed sopapilla a B+.  THE HUGE RED CHILE CON CARNE BURRITO WAS EXCELLENT AS WELL.  Rate it an A-. For the price this food cannot be beat. THIS WAS CERTAINLY ONE OF THE MOST FLAVORFUL MEALS I'VE HAD. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS! CAN'T WAIT TO RETURN. THIS IS CLEARLY SOME OF THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN TOWN.

(ps....the service was just fine today.)

Original review appears below:

Despite the takeout nature of this bistro....it does have some of the better Mexican food around these parts. Good stuff! But, because there is no indoor dining experience I am forced to rank this place 37th in town. ITS FOOD HOWEVER WOULD DEFINITELY BE IN THE TOP TEN. If you don't care about dining indoors.....and you enjoy Mexican food....you will want to try this place.

Updated to December 2013********

In December 2013....I stopped in and ordered a green chile meat chimichanga and a red chile meat burrito. Go burger is a little different than most places in that they use "pork" not only for the red but also the green chile con carne. The green chimichanga was excellent as usual....great light and flakey fried shell, good chile (shredded pork) with lots of heat, diced potato par-boiled just right.....excellent. (A-). The red burrito was not quite as good. The potato in the red chile was not par-boiled enough. The red chile this day was not hot (spicy) and the flavor was just ok. Rate the burrito a B. I have had many better red chile burritos. (But it was really large for the money.) Service took about 12-15 minutes to prepare the food.

See full review below:

First off...don't be fooled by the name: Go Burger is a mostly Mexican food restaurant where you order at the front window and take your food out to eat...either to the approximately eight steel picnic tables in front, or to your car, or home or ??? Parking can be real difficult during their busy lunch hours. Alongside the building the parking places are covered to keep the sun off you in case you want to eat in your car.

The menu is actually pretty interesting. Go Burger features tacos, rellenos, chimichangas, hotdogs, burgers, and a nice variety of burritos. THEY ARE, OF COURSE, WIDELY KNOWN FOR THEIR VERY LARGE BURRITOS. The prices at Go Burger are very reasonable. The service at the front window is ok...sometimes quick and at other times not so quick, depending on how busy they get. Many customers use the takeout window and many phone in their orders ahead of time. If you just show up at a busy time you may wait awhile. Since there is really no "dining experience" to be had here...rate the ambiance a "C." The service rates approximately a B minus. But, it all depends on what you want....what you're after so to speak as to whether or not you'll like this place.

NOW, LET'S GET SERIOUS ABOUT THE FOOD! You might note a one sentence review of Go Burger posted by another so-called "reviewer." That person claims the burgers are "terrible." What a joke! It is no wonder internet food reviews are held in so low repute. The green chile cheeseburger served up by Go Burger is actually very good. The chile is flavorful and some of the hottest around. A big, tasty, delicious burger is loaded up with shredded lettuce, tomato, mustard, onions. and cheese. The buns are ok, not heated or grilled...nothing special. This green chile cheeseburger clearly is one of the better ones around Las Cruces, but alas, it is not in the top ten. But close. Rate it a B+. It is juicy and delicious.

Their $3.99 burritos are what Go Burger is known for. YOU MAY NOTICE SOME ONE LINE REVIEWS BY THE "UBER-FANS" OF GO BURGER TELLING YOU THAT THE BURRITOS SERVED HERE ARE "THE BEST" IN TOWN. WELL, THEY AREN'T. BUT THEY ARE VERY GOOD....AND LARGE. The red chile meat burrito is very "hot" and very good. It is loaded with shredded pork and little bits of potato. But it is not as good as some may claim. I would argue that it is a little low on the flavor. The heat takes away from any flavor you might experience. My tongue and lips were burning after consuming one. It is one of the "hottest" I have had around these parts. It rates a "B."

I have found their chile relleno burrito to be one of their best with a delicious chile pepper surrounded by refried beans. Actually.....the smooth texture of the beans is a perfect compliment to the slightly crisp batter of the chile relleno. It makes for a great combination. This particular burrito seems to offer more real flavor than their chile meat burritos. I enjoy this one and rate it a B+ to A-.

Their green chile meat burrito is very good...I believe better than the red. It too is very high on the heat. Rate it a B+.

The chimichangas served up at Go Burger are some of the best around. THE SHELL IS DELICATE AND TASTY....FRIED JUST RIGHT.....NOT HEAVY AND CHEWY LIKE SOME PLACES DO THEM. The chimi with the green chile con carne is particularly good, high on the heat and loaded with potato pieces. Rate this chimi an A-.

The suffed sopapillas are also very good...with a nice texture and flavor. The one I ordered had red chile in it and was very good. Rate it a B+. All the crisped up fried shells at Go Burger (eg., sopapillas and chimis) are prepared very nicely, light and flavorful...fried just right.
They do a very nice job with these dishes.

For the record......you can ignore all the reviews on the Yahoo site which claim the burritos at Go Burger are the best in Las Cruces...or maybe the world. They aren't. THE TRUTH IS.....you can get some very inexpensive and "good" Mexican food and burgers here if you're willing to wait and stand out front. The food is not as good as some will argue...you do not get "exceptional" burgers and burritos at Go Burger, but very good ones all the same. And they are very HOT! The food is a good buy for the money. I would rate this bistro a four star rating based on the food and the value, but the lack of a real dining experience forces me to rate it...out of a possible five...THREE-AND-A-HALF STARS. The food by itself would rate a four....for very good. THE MAY 2013 MR. SENSITIVE RANKINGS OF MEXICAN FOOD RESTAURANTS IN LAS CRUCES HAVE THE FOOD SERVED AT GO BURGER RATED IN THE TOP TEN OR TWELVE IN TOWN. THAT IS VERY HIGH FOR A TAKEOUT JOINT.

I do like to stop in on occasion though when in the mood for "heat." GOOD FOOD AND A GOOD VALUE.

BOTTOM LINE: WILL I RETURN? I DO AND FAIRLY REGULARLY.

Excellent Breakfast Burritos. I haven't tried their burgers, but have both ordered breakfast burritos at the drive-thru window and have had them served to me as part of a large brunch party. They were excellent, a big surprise for a place with 'burger' in its title. Very fresh and tasty.

TEXAS SIZED BREAKFAST BURRITOS I can't speak for the rest of the menu but It is definitely a must visit destination for their deliciously massive breakfast burritos. I've been there so many times I've lost count. Is this company always fast, no, not at all.. but worth the wait. I feel their staff does the best they can when under pressure during busy hours. There's not a lot of places in Las Cruces that offer burritos like this at a price under $7 (circa early 2022).

Today was my first time eating at Go Burger. I ordered a salad. It was a simple salad but it was the best salad! Very tasty and healthy! The staff was very friendly! One thing I noticed was that the staff knew most of their customers! That says a lot about Go Burger. I will surely visit again!
