Irie Restaurant

This place is excellent for a island food restaurant! It doesn't just have one type of island dish but a influence of all. There customer service is great and the food truly made me feel like I was home again. For a island experience in America, this is a good spot that I will continue to visit!!! Definitely recommend visiting!

Had food delivered, it was still hot when arrived. Ordered the chicken curry with cabbage, rice and peas. Side of plantains. Chicken curry didn't have much flavor, wasn't spicy, mostly bones and gristle but really soft. Rice and peas were pretty plain, didn't taste like anything. Loved the Cabbage and plantains, they were really good.

Now I don’t normally do reviews but how else will one improve. I had the jerk chicken here once and let me just say, that was not Jamaican jerk chicken. I decided to give them a second chance because maybe the chef had quit that week or maybe I ordered late. This time around I ordered curry chicken for my friend and the jerk chicken again for myself. The only thing consistent with Jamaican flavor was the rice and peas. The curry chicken was fresh and lack seasoning and the jerk chicken should be called mild brown stew chicken with extra scotch bonnet pepper. In Jamaica, our dishes can only turn out 1 of 3 ways. These guys had a 4th way that was unknown to my taste buds. Let me help you with the curry chicken and jerk chicken. For the curry, use Jamaican spice curry, season the chicken with the curry, garlic, scallion onion etc and ginger root then let it sit for at at-least 2hours. When ready to cook, burn some of the curry in the pot before adding the seasoned curried chicken to the pot. Now while the curry chicken cooking add some thyme stems and one uncut scotch bonnet pepper. For the jerk chicken, if you not doing it pan style, get grace jerk seasoning and marinade for a hour or two then place in oven covered then uncovered until cooked. I don't like to review black and brown businesses poorly but their oxtail was tough and their cakes were dry! I spent $60 for oxtail, 4 slices of cake, all varieties were dry, 2 different drinks, I was only pleased with the drinks, not to mention the staff gave off coldness.. Not a nice vibe for an "Irie cafe"

I really wish I could give one star only I went in here I tried to just order two samples of oxtail and stewed chicken she ended up charging me 30 something dollars just for two samples no I said no problem I paid the $30 I said okay I'm in upper Marlboro I'm just going to try the food and see how it tastes cuz I'm from the Caribbeans I'm from Trinidad and Tobago so no problem so I paid the money and I walked off I went outside my friend was going to siruko sakuro to get food so while we're trying to get the food the Japanese food we tried to oxtail in the stew chicken it was so horrible I literally had to take it back I could not even eat it she charged me $30 for two plates gave me no rice no sides no anything just to meet like I asked for but overcharged me in one tray and then seen it was two of us still only gave me one fork which was fine no complaints until the food was so disgusting that I literally took it back I told her I want no refund you can keep the money and keep your food I really wish I can give zero Stars two thumbs down negative Stars
