Great Breakfast Stop!
I've eaten Root's breakfast at least 50 times in the past year. Now, you have to recognize the biscuits are not homemade and you have to bring good jam if you're a jam eater ( they use the little plastic cups of kool-aid looking jelly).
I should slow down. Roots is old-school. Very little has changed since my father-in-law was a regular in the 70s. Lunch and dinner are not a fav for me as portions are assigned to those old single-serve dishes that are too small. Main dishes are frozen and typically fried; I.e. burgers, fish, chicken. They do a daily special that's fresh, but I think on the bland side.
But back to breakfast--it's solidly good. The cooks can crack a consistent egg! I love mine over-easy. They're always spot on. Did I write "always?" Yes, and I meant always. Love em. My partner does scrambled with ham and cheese. They're just as consistent. Hash browns or home fries -- you can get either. Bacon--crisp not over or under. Sausage--two kinds/not turkey. French toast? Good. Pancakes--big and fluffy. Try the country skillet if you like gravy. If you do order the biscuits, ask for them grilled. They butter 'em and brown 'em up.
And don't leave without a piece of pie.
Small charm. Food is good for the price. Good service. Wouldn't recommend sitting next to the bathroom, there is only one and people stand outside it next to your table (unappetizing).
Dropped in on our way through town. Great food and fantastic service .
Baked Steak was awesome. Wish the mashed potatoes weren't instant. That would have elevated the dish. Also I had some of my Mom's chicken -n- noodles just as good as ever. Pleasant experience.
Today was my first visit to this restaurant, my girlfriend and I were very pleased with with service, food and friendliness here. The food was amazing, best I've had in a long time. Everyone was really nice and friendly. I will definitely keep coming back here!
This place has been here for as long as I can remember ( I have been here for 65 years). Most of the staff have been here for years. Many over 20 years.
That in it's self should be a large blinking light that says we are in this for the Long haul.
The overall dining experience will bring you back, and you most likely will bring a friend with you.
Been in the same place since jump street. It is a clean, friendly family owned and operated.
Menu keeps up with the times. Yet some dishes have been made without changes to it's preparation for over 70 years. Yeah baby just like grandna makes.
Please try it, and see if it's a five star rating for you, bet it is;
Really good food and friendly people. We'll be visiting again for sure.
Family Restaurant with a selection of down-home cooking and delicious desserts. One of my favorite stops for Friday's Fish Fry. The fish fry includes extra servings for the price which is good for take-home and for the budget. Root's uses a cod fish that is very flavorful. They also offer a selection of daily specials and the desserts include seasonal favorites. Service may be a little slow at times but the wait is worth it.
I've been gong here for decades and the food tastes as good as it did 30 years ago. Like everything else, the pies are made in-house and are worth the drive alone. Grab lunch, then hit a couple spots in Hocking Hills. Nice day trip!
We were on our meandering way toward Columbus from the Hocking Hills area and were looking for a local restaurant for breakfast. I just happened to see someone getting out of their car in front of this older house that had a sign saying breakfast and something else. I had to find a place to turn around. Any way, the service was very friendly and the food was great. We also told our waitress about goetta (another story there).
Stopped in to eat on the way to hike at Hocking Hills nearby. Really good food and the waitress and townspeople were warm and friendly. They have specials made on different days. Good find for homemade comfort food.
