Even 6 months later I'm writing this review because I can't stop thinking of how awesome the food was here! This restaurant by far has the best tacos in the city, but it's important to set expectations so as to have the best experience:
1.) If you think Mexican is all about heaping a mountain of cheddar and chili on everything, that type of cuisine is actually Tex-Mex, and not Mexican. This place is most definitely Mexican and NOT Tex-Mex, with a few choices from other Latin cultures as well.
2. Do not expect service to be fast, no matter what you order. This is a one-man show most times, but the food quality is out of this world and well worth the wait so long as you have the time to spare. You wouldn't rush grandma when she cooks, don't rush this place.
3. Expect to pay extra for chips and salsa, and expect them to exceed any prior experience you've ever had with chips and salsa in the past! You get three sauces with fresh baked chips and each dip is a flavor explosion in your mouth!!!
Now that that's out of the way, I want to say I tried a couple of tacos, and went with my wife and a couple of friends. One of them had been there before and insisted on bringing us there. I used to think Barrio made amazing tacos that were the best in the city, but this place was head and shoulders better than anything else I'd ever had. I had to wait for almost an hour for it, but the quality was so high that every single bite was worth savoring.
Quality ingredients, exceptionally well prepared, artfully served, fun atmosphere. El Tango has been a family favorite for years. Flavors you will not get elsewhere.
Wonderful place, and owner! Flavors we haven't had with mexican before. Not your run of the mill food. Our daughter is vegetarian and she ordered the veggie burrito...it was yummy! We ordered the chili chips nachos and they were good too...not as spicy. Huge portions...one was enough for at least two of us. The salsas are good too. Loved it!
Very high prices, very good food.. This is an interesting place. Get in, order and pay, then take a seat while they make it fresh for you.
The prices are eye popping for a taco place, but the quality of the food is worth it. This is no Taco Bell fare, you will be surprised and delighted by both the on-the-spot preparation and the quality of what you get.
The fish tacos are expensive, but amazing. If you like lemonade don't miss the vanilla lemonade, its the perfect drink to wash down fresh California style Mexican food.
Bueno.. Great ambiance and authentic Mexican. Forget Chipotle go to this place and get the real thing. Quick in house service or call ahead.
Great burrito, chincy salsa. One of my favorite burritos in the Cleveland area. I personally always go with the chicken with everything. The juicy meat blends perfectly with the combination of beans, rice, and veggies that they add. There is a touch of cinnamon in each burrito, giving it an extremely unique taste inside a monstrous burrito.
Only problem I've had is that they charge $1 extra for salsa, and then barely give you any. I've had to personally purchase two orders of hot salsa just to have a meager amount throughout the burrito.
Delicious fish taco's!. The red snapper fish taco's are top shelf kind of stuff. All the quesadilla's be it chicken, beef or cheese are also fantastic. I wouldn't call it mexican but more of a California mexican or tex-mex place? Very good food. The grande burrito is huge and yummy in the green sauce! Great for carry out, although i've never eaten inside the place. Give it a shot! A little pricier (taco's are $3.95) but the food taste warrants it, i think.
Excellant Tex-Mex dining with a flair for the unusual! Thanks for adding sidewalk dining and the remodel of the exterior. Clean windows would make it even better.
