Looks can be deceiving here, it's a small hole in the wall place. The outside looks very rundown. The lot that Golen Plate is in looks completely terrible. But we decided to try it out since the sesame pockets here were supposedly very good, and it did not disappoint!
The filler (which we got pork) was delicious and paired very well with the sesame buns. So good I was shoveling it into my mouth by itself when I ran out of buns.
We got the Kung pao chicken and the honey walnut shrimp, both which were delicious. Kung Pao was less American tasting than you'd get at some other places and had a rich flavor, while the Shrimp was nice and plump and very very fresh!
The egg rolls were just your standard egg rolls. Being a cheap lunch special deal was just extra icing ontop!
Golden Plate is definitely our favorite Chinese place so far in the Denver area. Can't wait to come again and try something new.
Update: Came back to try the Pan Fried special noodles. It was sooooo good. Sauce was so good you could drink it. Shrimp here are enormous here and taste fresh and very well marinated. Wish I could review this place twice!
People are not kidding when they say the sesame pockets are fantastic. The savory pork hash stuffed into those almost too hot sesame pockets tasted so amazingly good!
Also got the honey walnut shrimp and you should not pass up on it. The shrimp was so nice and plump and the mayo with walnuts added to each bite was just too wonderful.
The Kung Pao chicken was also very good, it tasted different, but so much better than many other Kung Pao chicken dishes I have had in the past. The sauce was much tastier and the vegetables were actually cooked/seasoned well.
The servers/owners (?) were also very prompt and nice, can't wait to visit again and try something new (definitely getting the pockets again though)!
Update (7-8-2022):
Tried their chicken and broccoli, paired with a brown sauce, and it was very tasty! Golden Plate II puts their own spin on the flavor, but it works very well for both the chicken and vegetables.
Also tried their sesame shrimp, which was lightly breaded, garnished with crispy white noodles, and swimming in a savory sauce. While I liked their other shrimp dishes more, it is still a very solid choice from a very delicious restaurant!
Long story short, get the sesame pockets (maybe two orders).
Not particularly impressive upon first glance, but looks can be very deceiving. The food is good, but the item that makes this place stand out are the sesame pockets. Simply amazing. Pastries are flaky, flavorful and compliment the filling amazingly well. It’s an experience unlike any other. I don’t know if you can find anything that comes close to the sesame pockets in another chinese restaurant within the state. Very kind and hardworking owners.
Been going to this nice family owned place for over 20 years. They are one of the best Chinese restaurants in town. Authentic Chinese mixed with your usual ‘localized’ Chinese food. The crispy duck is the best I’ve ever had. The new dish sesame eggplant was delicious. The owner keeps improving the menu. Always enjoy going there.
The only draw back is that the strip mall has been run down. The city has neglected this area for a while. Pot holes in parking lot. This doesn’t detract my enjoyment of this fabulous little restaurant.
Really unassuming place with some great flavors. The sesame pockets are excellent. I also recommend the rice cakes with pork loin. (Believe it’s listed under specials).
Amazing food! All the classic American Chinese food you’d want done very well with dishes I don’t typically see. Everything was delicious and this is a new favorite place! The hole in the wall we’ve been looking for!
The sesame pockets, crab cheese wontons and sesame chicken were amazing. We also ordered the sizzling beef in black pepper sauce, fried rice and some lo mein. Everything was pretty tasty. The wontons were still crispy when we got home too! Will be making this place our go to for chinese takeout.
Great value and good food. We ordered from them a few months ago for pickup. Fast and easy to get to. Don't judge the outside. They give you so much more protein that other places. We ordered Chicken Fried Rice, Mongolian Chicken, and Beef Lo Men. The crab chess wantons are right on point. If you're looking for good fast meal give them a try
