Bungalow Retreat

June 2019. (original review) My husband and I stumbled upon a little gem of a restaurant in Lake Mary. it is a wonderful, well appointed bungalow retreat. In fact, the name is Bungalow Retreat. Life in Lake Mary is good. When we arrived, we were greeted by owners Josh and Sarah and were given a tour of the place. After we were seated, we saw on the menu many items from seafood to chicken and lamb chops. I ordered a short rib burger with Portabella mushrooms and Swiss cheese, while my husband had a smoked cheddar cheeseburger, both on brioche buns. On the side, my husband had delicious hand made french fries and I had a fresh medley of broccoli and cauliflower florets. Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious. As a former interior decorator, I appreciated the decor. Josh hand picked each piece to create the look and feel he wanted for his guests. And, ladies, if you want to relax after a stressful day, there are 8 private rooms with massage chairs. Down the hall is a Halo salt therapy room. They also have a private room where you can have a get together or meeting. I am very impressed how Josh and Sarah took the concept of a restaurant to a new level. Well done! So, if you are looking for a unique place to eat, come check out this bungalow retreat in Lake Mary. When you get there, tell them Katy sent you. 11/6/19~ Well, I returned to one of my favorite restaurants and I have to say I was very disappointed. My experience this time was not the same at all. The food did not taste freshly cooked but rather warmed up. The menu we found on the website did not match the restaurant menu. The two bartenders were doubling as waiters also. The owners were not there. My husband ordered shrimp Carbonara and the sauce was thin and runny. I orderd the scallops. (Side note: they were not on the menu and our waitress said they were $22. When we got the bill, they were $24). They were not hot off the pan. They sat on a bed of tomatoes. The plate came with one piece of Cauliflower and one piece of Broccoli. The side dish was gnocchi; about 2 tablespoons. The noise level was very high. So disappointed and so different 5 months ago. Big change. I would not go back. I changed my 5 stars down to 3.

If I could give this place 100 stars, I would. 1st and foremost- the place has one of the most unique set ups I've ever seen. Individual rooms, salt rooms, happy hour(I think that's what it is) rooms, a regular dining area and probably more areas that I didn't see. The drinks were top notch. And the food? Oh. My. Lord. I've never had better food, and nor has my family that I went with. And we know good food. We got the tempura veggies as a starter: 10/10 would recommend. I ordered one of their daily specials- (some sort of) steak over ravioli. Steak is marinated for 12 hours and there was some balsamic involved. The ravioli was full of ricotta, there were mushrooms and artichokes and every other good part of life thrown into this dish. And y'all..... I don't even like ravioli. But I went out on a limb. This was PHENOMONAL. And I threw on a side of aaaaamazing avocado fries, because why not? And to end things the right way, we each had orange cream cake. Sweet baby Jesus, you have no idea what you're missing if you don't try this. The owner is very nice, the chefs are fantastic and came out to speak and the wait staff is top notch. I live out of state and was brought by family and I couldn't be more excited to come back to town again and try something else! I heard the burgers are the best in town! My aunt had lamb chops that she couldn't stop raving about and my mom and uncle both got the same thing that I did. They accidentally brought out pork chops first instead of lamb so we asked to leave it and we all nibbled off that, too. And oh.my.goodness. those were the best pork chops I've ever had... and I know good pork chops. My mom and uncle had coffee with the dessert and were both even going off about how good even the coffee was! If you haven't been here- go! If you want to impress some family, friends or clients- TAKE THEM HERE. But don't let the menu online fool you, there's much more than what is on there! Ps: it's a small place so if you're coming for dinner(especially on a weekend,) call and make reservations. Okay, that's all! You're welcome, byeeeee.

I found this place on google and the decor really caught my eye so I decided that we should try it for date night. I love unique places. I’m so glad that we did! The food was delicious! The menu is small but the food is full of flavor. They also have a neat cocktail list that makes you want to try every one. The ambiance is cozy with warm colors and there’s still TVs to enjoy a game. Our waitress was amazing, super pleasant and attentive. She was a breath of fresh air. The chef came to check on us which was a nice surprise. We also got a chance to speak with the owner and he was so welcoming and appreciative. The staff is just top notch! Get this.. they have massage chairs! After a few glasses of wine and great dinner, it’s a perfect way to cap off your experience. I really enjoyed dinner at this gem and can’t wait to return.
