To start, the decor of this restaurant is spectacular. The colors are soothing and the lighting is the right mix of illuminating and not overbearing. The exterior is gorgeous, of course, as is the surrounding area. The menu is well written, without the unnecessary pomp and circumstance that plagues certain restaurants of this quality. I did not feel like the menu would mislead me when I read it. The drinks as well were very simply laid out, which allowed me to identify precisely what I wanted to imbibe and consume. The bartender Tyler and the manager Julia did spectacularly throughout the night, fielding my questions about the sources of their food and dealing with my special requests. They were a dream team and provided the level of service I would have anticipated from older, nationally recognized chains (a la Ruth's Chris). I flew into New Jersey and then drove into Philadelphia to sample the wares of the General. And from an aesthetic standpoint, it was well worth the trip. But no restaurant is worth the travel time if the food isn't acceptable. The General exceeded my admittedly high expectations. From the fresh brioche to the incredible steak, from the Patio Punch to the pot de creme, everything I consumed was absolutely phenomenal. Of particular note is the medium rare steak, served with a gravy that was so absolutely delicious I lack the words to convey just how fulfilling it was. The seasoning was perfect (a result of the dry rub, as I understand it) and the size, marbling, and the cross section when I cut into it... spectacular. To summarize, the General was absolutely sublime and I cannot wait to fabricate a region to return to the Philadelphia reason to partake of their food again. What an incredible experience.

I went with two other people in my party, who both enjoy good food as much as me, so that we were able to try several different appetizers and entree's. I had a red wine by the glass, chosen for me by Ryan our server, that went exceptionally well with everything I tried. I had a Pork belly fried mushroom appetizer that melted in your mouth. From the Sushi side of the restaurant, did I mention that there was also a sushi bar in the General, we had the roll with the crunchy fried onions on top and shrimp. It to was delicious and with the Wasabi and Ginger it also went well with my red wine. The courses were spaced perfectly and each came out exceptionally well presented. Each of us had gotten a different entree, the duck, the crab, and I got the pork chop. We all came to the conclusion that the pork chop was the winner cooked to perfection. If the General was closer to my house I would be there every night. And on my way back to the city, I was looking for places so that I could live closer.

Always a great meal when we come here. Ramen is new on the menu and was great! It had a very flavorful broth and was extremely filling. The Poke bowl here is still the best I've ever tried and the lobster bisque was deliciously creamy with a chunk of lobster floating in the middle of the dish.

Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff! Has both sushi and American style food. The beer list could have a little more variety. Overall lovely place and good eats!

Nice decore. Bar can be loud but there are two and one side was much quieter. Very interesting menu sushi, bar food, dinner menu. Something for everyone. Sushi was very fresh. Poke was very good. Have not tried the "side" of the menu yet. Service was helpful and friendly. Definitely worth it!

Me and my partner Pete love this place, and go every chance we can. We were hesitant at first bc sushi and American? But it’s literally the best sushi in the area! We can’t help but always order the tare tar trio! A fresh array of soft, sweet fish, avocado, and perfect balance of umami flavors - and reasonably priced! Every roll we have tried has been amazing and FRESH! The American food is also great! Great fried chicken, awesome wings, best Mac and cheese! We would try more but we ant stop ordering the sushi! We also love the service, the owner/manager is always helping out and happy to take feedback. Thanks for being our new favorite spot in the chestnut hill, Mt.Airy, Plymouth meeting area!
