Today's episode of #roadfill comes from La Junta, Colorado. One of my FB pals recommended that I give Lucy's Tacos a try, and so I did.
As I drove into the small town, I searched my dash GPS unit to find the restaurant, but to no avail. I was starting to think I had arrived in the wrong town, so I asked SIrI instead. She found it for me.
Lucy's is a rather odd place. On a street corner in the town, just outside of the main corridor, lay a restaurant building and a trailer next to it, with a small parking lot and a couple of picnic benches. The building's windows are covered with promo related to Lucy's, but inside the building is only a toilet and a few rooms being used for storage. The restaurant is actually just the trailer in the parking lot, so it's really more of a taco truck, and may explain why my GPS couldn't find it.
After all that hub-bub was sorted, it was time to order. I scoured the fairly extensive curbside menu and decided on some grilled chicken tacos, with the token sides of refried beans and rice. My last experience with tacos in Colorado Springs didn't fare too well, but since this place came recommended I was willing to try again.
The two fellows in the trailer took my order and I was able to practice...err butcher some of the Spanish language with them. Shortly afterward my meal was served to me in a portioned styrofoam box.
Opening the box revealed a nice smelling and very attractive dish with lots of Colour and fresh tomatoes and lettuce blanketing the chicken.
I dug in amidst the joyful cook singing along to mariachi music in the trailer. The recommendation was spot on. The tacos were tasty, especially with the green chile, as was the rice. The beans weren't watery like the last batch I had and had a dusting of cheese for extra flavour.
Lucy was nowhere to be found, unless one of the boys in the trailer was cross dressing, but if she was there I would have thanked her personally for restoring my faith in Mexican food.
Two forks up!

Way too good. Burrito was huge, was only going to eat half but....really was good! On a pretty day take it to the park to eat.
From the outside, this trailer doesn't look like much. The previous reviews inspired us to try it. Not many good local food places in La Junta. Lucy's was fabulous! Delicious fresh tacos, loaded and great tasting! Highly recommend the Carnitas tacos! Amazing flavor and not too spicy for me. Cannot have hot spicy and usually not cilantro. Their pico had minimal cilantro, not overpowering. The Car e Asada fries were awesome too. We loved this place so much we had lunch and dinner (ordered to go). Definitely our favorite place in La Junta!! Can't wait to go back!!
They are usually fast. I've found the meat lately is a little on the fatty side. I do really like Lucy's though.
We drove from Peyton and weren't disappointed! Carne Asada Burrito excellent!
I'm so glad that I'm stumbled upon this joint while driving through La Junta. The portions are massive for what you pay, and everything was amazing! I got the chimichanga and rolled tacos.
I would go to Lucy's every day if I could! I get the California Burrito, Super Nachos, Carne Asada Burrito, and Care Asada fries And don't forget the fried jalapeno!
How could you not love this place!? clean, competant, fast and totally delicious !
Some of the best food I had! I would go here again next time I am in town. I would recommend everyone to eat here
