A new wine bar has opened just up the street from me, LJ Crafted Wines . This has quickly become one of my top 5 spots in San Diego.
Their wines are from Sonoma and served directly from the barrels. The owner, Lowell Jooste, has put a great deal of detailed thought and effort into every aspect of executing this concept, not to mention a deep passion for wine, all of which show through in his guest's experience. The wines, their third vintage, are excellent. The menu, also excellent, is mostly light, app-style fair crafted by their chef, Kim of Luxury Goodies, to match the wines perfectly. The staff is very knowledgeable about both the wine and food, attentive and friendly. Every pairing they've suggested had been spot on.
For example my meal yesterday: exceptional pairings where each of the combinations were better together than they already were on their own. I had:
Sliver of Gorgonzola, Pear Quiche with Cold Penne lightly dressed in Lime, Cilantro & EVO with there 2015 Stuart, Sauvignon Blanc
Spinach Salad with the 2015 Hoot Owl Viognier (unfiltered)
Bacon wrapped Dates & Feta/Olive App with their 2014 Petite Verdot.

The selected wine tasting was probably the best I’ve ever had. Ever. I LOVE the no waste concept. The space is beautiful.
We were very impressed with the quality of their wines, especially given that they are a wine bar that makes their wines in a brewery style/environment. We took one of each of their wines. Customer service was great, very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable people.
Great wine and great festive charcuterie! The concept is also really awesome, will definitely be coming back and joining the membership option.

Amazing service, fantastic wines, great ambiance, and a powerful + thoughtful mission to reduce/eliminate wasteful packaging and products in the wine industry. We loved the wine tasting flights - it was a really fun experience that we weren't expecting! Would definitely recommend this place.
One of the nice place for wine tasting I have ever been. I am not that much into wine but went out with my friends and had a really good time.
The owner was very nice and he explained about all the kinds of wine they had and I really appreciate what he did.

Awesome location and amazing wine. If you are ever in Bird Rock area of La Jolla, and like wine you have to stop in here. The owners are super nice, and provide a great ambiance.
