A friend and I dined here April 12, 2022. Tomo had only been reopened for two days and was up and running with spectacular choices in cuisine, had a well stocked bar and excellent customer service. My friend and I were quite pleased with the large portions and the very modest pricing. Be prepared to take home leftovers! I highly recommend this family owned and operated business!

So they need to change their offerings on Yelp because it still says sushi. When we went last night they no longer have sushi and only have hibachi, ramen and poke.
We stayed because we had a Groupon to use otherwise we probably would have gone somewhere else because we actually wanted sushi.
My husband and I got the shrimp hibachi which was good. My girls split a tempura ramen. Also pretty good.
Overall the food was fine and I would give them a 3.5 out of 5 because it was not what we expected and thus I rounded it up to 4. Basically even if you eat there it’s like take out. They bring your food and you do all the clean up and put your dishes up and everything. I am guessing corona has made them change their business model so they can have as few workers as possible and have easier dishes to make.
We probably won’t be back if they no longer have sushi. Hopefully they will bring it back. Until then, they should update their main offerings on their online presence.

Tonight was the first time my husband and I tried this little gem tucked away in a shopping center just past West Town Mall. The super nice gentleman who took our order was so patient! I chose a build-your-own poke bowl and he went out of his way to customize it for me, even substituting chicken for tuna. My husband had the Tempura Ramen and usually sneezes after eatingvout becsuse of the presevatives in the food. He did not sneeze once!!! The food was AMAZING. I asked for a to-go box for my leftovers and I told the gentleman who had helped us my food was amazing and I hope I can remember the options I requested next time on my bowl so I could get it the same way, and he said, not to worry, he would help! Great atmosphere, very casual but quaint and cozy. We are looking forward to our next visit!

This was me and my boyfriends first time going and it was soooo good!! I had the chicken ramen and he got a build your own poke bowl. You get a ton of food for the price. Both were equally amazing, will be going back!

So I had never tried a Poke bowl before, but frequent sushi restaurants. I very mistakenly thought I would like this option. Poke bowl not for me. The rice and other ingredients of a roll definitely are a requirement for me to enjoy raw fish. This dish was too lacking of chewable substance for me to enjoy. Flavor fine. Quality seemed fine also. May be fine if you like a Poke bowl.

I tried this place a few days ago and it was a little disappointing. I got a seaweed salad appetizer which was decent and then hibachi chicken. The chicken and veggies were pretty good, but the fried rice was lacking. It didn't really have any flavor so I poured the shrimp sauce that comes with hibachi items over the rice and was able to eat a little bit of it that way. Something about the rice though just wasn't good. Overall it wasn't bad, but I probably wouldn't go there again unless I wanted to try the poke bowls, which I might.

Ramen was good. But it was over all much better before they closed and reopened. We went here because we had a local flavor coupon that was expiring. But was over all unimpressed with the new poke menu. My husband was really looking forward to sushi. They now have bottled drinks instead of a soda fountain that you can get refills with. Probably won't be back again. They never should have changed.

Tomo’s has been an institution for years. It was great in Fountain City and I hated to see it go. The poke and ramen are excellent and I will miss the sushi offerings. After the remodel, I am not sure I will return. It looks and feels great inside but I am not crazy about having to walk up and order and pick up my own food and bus my own table. I understand the new appeal, but I just liked the old style where we were all waited on because I liked to bring all of my family in and now it’s just kind of a hassle. But I know you will have much success with the new and out with the old. Thank you for serving my family, my friends and myself for many many years

Stumbled upon this place looking for a bento box, discovered they have the sushi thing locked up. Ordered a rice bowl, chef's choice on the fish, surprised me with an amazing Hawaiian Tuna. Melt in your mouth. Had two Saba Nigiri for dessert, yeah, great stuff. Brought the family back a few days later and did not disappoint.
Cozy, laid back, good selection of beer, Sake for miles, though they keep not having my Big Sapporo... ;)
We'll be back.

People are always gushing about Nama, but Tomo has the best sushi you'll find in Knoxville at this price point. Don't pay a premium for the same quality fish somewhere else. Great specials throughout the week, and open late on the weekends. Friendly staff, and a very decent menu with more than a few traditional Japanese dishes. I believe all entrees are cooked to order, so don't rush 'em! Good stuff.

This is a small space, a zen retreat, tucked away in a shopping center amidst all sorts of West Knox hubbub, that is like a mini-vacation retreat. GREAT food and tea ~ excellent options for VEGANS as well! I had the "Quick Lunch" which included a house salad, an entree and a side of amazing rice. The salad is simple - crisp, cool lettuce with a nice ginger dressing that tastes home made. I had veggie tempura as my entree - nice, light, crispy coating fried around flavorful chunks of sweet potato, green beans, mushrooms and more. The rice is no bland, disappearing act - it is absolutely the best rice I've ever had...the grains are a special oval shape with a perfectly sticky, chewy texture, not too wet, not too dry and it holds together beautifully when dipping in the lovely and light tempura sauce.
The room features very nice, cool and dark, colors and ambience - you can sit in a front window and watch outside or you can choose to slip into a private booth in the back. The washrooms are clean and smell nice. The service was casual yet prompt and friendly.
This is one of my favorite lunch spots in Knoxville!
PS They make amazing sushi - this was Knoxville's very first sushi spot eons before anyone else dared to come to town! I no longer eat fish but if you do, this is sure bet!

The food is good but you have to staff more than 2 servers on a busy Saturday night. The waiters did their best to stay afloat, especially the new girl, but until you staff enough people to service the restaurant your reputation will suffer. This is not a complaint about the servers who worked. They did as well as they possibly could given the situation they were in.

Finally made it to Tomo after hearing several great recommendations. We very much enjoyed the traditional seating that was available, and the sushi was excellent! We were very happy with the variety of selection compared to other sushi restaurants we have been to in Knoxville. Prices were also much more reasonable for what you get in comparison to some! The staff was friendly and attentive, overall a great experience! Highly recommended.

The food was good but the service was terrible. They only had the bartender and one other waitress working the entire floor and the bar. Waited forever just to get a glass of water.
