This is a DINER and lives up to its name. It'll give you good food at a good price. It even comes with waitresses that are slightly aloof but nice. Food seems pretty good. Come here if you want a bite to eat, it won't take too long, and it tastes good.
Good food for a decent price. I grew up in Ketchikan, I moved to Anchorage within the past 5 years. The PP as we called it is delicious in most ways. Whenever I went in they would simply ask me if i wanted the usual, which was an Alaskan Burger. I would say whether you are a tourist visiting Ketchikan or a resident, the Pioneer Cafe has decent food at a decent price, and regardless of what you order whatever you get you will be pleased with. That is being said because I love going to small diners and finding places that are original and untarnished on account of the tourism industry. Ketchikan has become a sad town on account of the fact that so many businesses depend on tourism and the revenue generated by it from the influx of people every year. Instead of sailing in in the middle of summer time try flying in when the winter time hits. You will get the full experience of this town, as it were. Try the PP! and Oceanview, even Steamers. All great places to eat!
A good place to go when you are hungry. Generous portions at decent prices. If you are in the mood for a burger and fries try the Alaska burger. It takes a big appetite to finish the whole thing. Large breakfasts any time of day.
We ate there several times. Service and breakfast were always good. HUGH portions and reasonable prices for Ketchikan. Halibut was not as expected, but everything else we had was good.
This Country Boy Was A happy Camper. While in port on our Southeast Alaska cruise on Celebrity Mercury the driver on our horse drawn trolley tour recommended this little gem to us by little I do mean little we actually walked by twice as it was crowded we finally sat at the bar not the most comfortable butt we made it. I tried a reindeer steak man was that good. When we travel we always try to get away from the tourist stuff so glad we listened.
Classic American Diner. This wonderful little restaurant is a great example of what a diner should be. It's not one of those "throwback classic" diner that paid some designer a bag of money to make it look like a diner, but it's also not a greasy hole in the wall either. This place is locally owned by people who love the place. Good food at reasonable prices. I highly recommend the blueberry pancakes, and the reindeer sausage is delicious.
Working on a cruise ship, I look forward to this port every week for this little slice of AlaskAmericana. It's a place that reminds me of how nice it is to eat a meal that was cooked because I specifically ordered it. I've had far too many meals that were cooked because the chef estimated that 500 people would have the same meal I would want.
Nothing to write home about.... The food here is decent. Lord knows I ate enough Sunday breakfasts here for awhile on street with plenty of Sunday breakfast. It's good... not great. Surprisingly this southern boy found biscuits and gravy on the menu as far back as '94 (I guess this dish has completed it's northern migration by now) and the gravy was yellow (!) but good enough to get the job done. That kinda sums up the entire experience at the Pioneer. Good enough to get the job done.
50's styled down home diner. Rootbeer float was the best and the biscuits & gravy was like my grandmas!! Yum..the chowder was great too!

Good diner food at a great price.
Breakfast all day!!!!!!
And good old fashioned rich tasty breakfast!!
Nothing is spared. The eggs are three, the hash is fresh and bathed in tastiness and even the toast is delicious on its own!!
And I swear, it looks and feels like in the movies - a good old fashion diner with locals and tourists. Clearly well liked by all and not claiming to be anything more than that but living up to all that’s best about such a place.
The waitress is treating you like family and the food us plenty and makes you feel like home.
Stepping out of time for a nice meal…
It's the place to go for the greasy spoon and ok service. Like a rout 66 themed denies that isn't trying to move you along at all. Definitely loved the biscuits and gravy and the halibut fish and chips. Well go again. Not so good for vegetarians.
Friendly service and a good vibe. A small seating area and the local mom&pop shop five off an old fashioned America vibe. The food is decent and comes quick.
Great comfort food at non-tourist prices. Great place to watch the locals.
I have had biscuits and gravy from all over the country and this is right up there with the best of them. The server was engaging and the place is clearly popular with the locals.
