Tillie's

Came to Tillie's for lunch today with a friend. Ordered a peach Bellini mocktail. It was missing the fresh berries that were supposed to come in it. I ordered the Caesar salad and added bourbon glazed steak tips. The salad arrived with some delicious looking charred romaine, cheese crisps, shaved Parmesan cheese and the steak tips. The steak tips were VERY bland. No sign of a bourbon glaze or marinade anywhere. I loaded them with salt to try to improve their flavor. The dressing was just ok. I know it was a classic Caesar dressing (not the creamy kind everyone is used to) but it just tasted like strong olive oil. My bill for the two items was a whopping $25. I could have made the same meal at home for about $5. I think I will do that next time. Bad me. I like the restaurant space but it felt a little cold to me. I think some artwork and some greenery would really brighten the dining room space. I hope to return to give it another try sometime.

My wife and I went to Tillie's on a date night. The atmosphere was okay - for the first hour we were there, I think they were playing an American Idol compilation CD or something... It was kind of odd for a restaurant that aims to feel like a speakeasy. (They did switch it to big band jazz later in our meal.) I'd definitely like to go back during one of their Wednesday jazz nights. The service was friendly and attentive. I'm glad we weren't under any time constraints - even though we were ahead of the evening rush, it was 45 minutes between when we were seated and when we received our appetizer, and then it was another half hour until the entree came out. The food was was very good, but for the price I was not blown away. We'll definitely return to try some of the other menu items that we didn't have a chance to, and to support a business that hosts live music in Keene.

The food and service were excellent at this establishment. The food combinations are unique and taste delicious. Items such as Shrimp and Grits that were made Cajun style, and Chicken and Waffles with a nice Bourbon Maple Syrup. The seating was also unique, seeing that the benches are in fact old pews from a church.

My wife and I have been to Tillie's 4 times. Each time it gets better. The atmosphere is warm, the servers are knowledgeable and timely and the seating is spacious and comfortable. The best part is the food. I am no gourmet but I know creativity when I eat it. The chef takes great pride in his creations, as he should. They satisfy the stomach as well as the soul. BTW, one can have a quiet conversation during the meal. We will be heading back to Tillie's tonight.

This place is fantastic!!! As soon as I walked in the atmosphere is on point! A rustic looking bar with high top tables. The bartenders are nice and friendly, as well as the cook (Brendan) came out after we gave our complements of the food. He was very humble and modest. Why I gave this 4stars is because the owner came behind the bar and pored himself a drink. In an establiahment like this I would not expect the owner to do this but have his staff do so. As far as the food it was very very good. Came just the way I ordered but it wasn't piping hot, almost like it had cooled down before served. But the taste and flavor was there. I'd definitely be back around.

Mussels are good. I’ve been four times. 3 times they were out of my first and second choices... never seen that anywhere else. And then 55 minutes, at lunch time for a chicken sandwich. 55 minutes. And there were only 4 other customers in there so it’s not like they were swamped... I had high hopes and really gave it a few chances, but we’ve given up. Back to the tried and true.
