Decent experience. This attractive, spacious restaurant features standard Mexican menu items. The food is good, but really nothing special. They have daily specials in addition to their lengthy menu, which include lower priced lunch specials. There are better Mexican options in Kearney.
Shrimp Nachos!! Yummy!! Great dish to share.
Great food and service. We ate here on a Friday night; the place was full, but there was no wait. I'm not sure if it's a Friday night special or what, but margaritas were $2.99. They were great!
All of us at our table enjoyed the food. The free chips were amazing (thick and served hot) and the salsa was equally good. Even though it was a Friday during Lent, there was no issue finding meat-free food. El Potrero has plenty of fish/sea-food/and vegetarian options. I had a combo of cheese enchilada, bean burrito, and cheese quesadilla. All was delicious! My only complaint was that the "combo" didn't come with rice or beans. The meal was still plenty big, however. Everyone else I was with ordered a shrimp dish. The shrimp were huge, and plentiful.
Sevice was superb. Our waiter constantly checked on us. Zero complaints in that department!
I've always been fond of this small family "chain" of restaurants. I've eaten at the El Potrero in Omaha and El Toro in Grand Island plenty of times. We've never had a bad experience. Kearney and GI should especially be grateful to have them, as both these cities lack a big supply of decent restaurants. Try this place out, whether you're in Central or Eastern Nebraska.
Amazing Food!. My wife and I have an addiction to El Portrero Restaurant. We think that their Quesadilla Pablano (steak) is incredible. We try not to eat here more than once a week, it's that good.
A little pricey at about $20 p/person, but food was fantastic and the service was even better. Glasses never got below half empty before they were taken to be refilled, food arrived at our table accurately, hot and quickly. Our server still had a great attitude at the end of her shift right at closing time. We will make a point to return every single trip through Kearney, NE.
First time here. Busy Friday night, but we were seated quickly. Chips and salsa were fresh. Food came out pretty quickly. Fajitas were good, but this was the first I have had fajitas in a full service restaurant that were not brought out 'sizzling'. Atmosphere was comfortable.
We are visiting from Arizona. Good food big portions and massive margaritas. Our server Jose was super friendly and attentive.
Good food, even though they forgot the lettuce part of a fajita salad. Service was a little slow, but I think she was taking care of a large party, too. Good drink specials.
They have remodeled this place from when it was open, not to much changes but got new tables, new chairs, a new menu, and small little things that make the place a little different than before. My family of 6 and a baby went in Sunday in the afternoon and it was busy. The waiter was busy, but still did a good job in trying to keep up. I got a traditional Mexican dish and it was carne asada came with rice, beans, and a salad with a side of sour cream. Experience wise is good. Food was good, I’ve gone here before the reboot and I hated this place and it’s food. I do recommend this place to eat Mexican food on Sunday afternoon. Like most places, service will vary and some with bad experiences on other days. So sorry if you go on a Monday. But go Sunday afternoon and it will be great! 4 stars!
UPDATE: Came on a Saturday service I give it a 4 not bad the food is amazing and it’s getting better every time I go. I recommend it It is a 5 star restaurant, rice and beans are fresh and it’s all yummy.
It was my first time going and i ordered a mango pollo and my friend ordered the burito especial. The service was so fast and friendly and our meal was absolutely delicious!! Highly recommended
