Abuelo's Mexican Restaurant

Most unique taste and unexpected flavor for Tex-Mex. This is a fancy place and the food was so incredible it was far above anything I've had before. I had the steak chimichanga and it was emotionally excellent. Our waitress Kristen was an absolute Pro! So kind and sweet that she added to this amazing experience. If you are looking for Tex MEX of a higher caliber, swing in here. Easy parking, fancy and clean establishment, amazing food, and a Pro Staff.

Well, work now has me in Katy, TX. As I often do, I always try a restaurant I've never been before. Decided to have dinner at Abuelos. I ordered the chicken calabasa. The food was great, although they were a little skimpy on the portions, so I gave only 4 stars. I sat at the bar area, and Jennifer, the bartender, was sweet and gracious. I would definitely come back.

I ordered my food online. When i walked in I was greeted with a smile. The portions were plenty and the service was on point. Not sure but I think the manager came up and asked if everything was alright, I said absolutely. I strongly recommend trying this place out if anyone hasn't yet. Abuelo's, keep on being you. Atmosphere? Check. Amazing smells when you walk in? Check. One of the best margaritas ever? Check. My new favorite chimichanga? DOUBLE CHECK! I swung by Abuelo's for a quick bit while I was traveling west on 10, and that turned into an experience! First off is the atmosphere - very classy vibe in a laid back way, and the bar is visually stunning. The lighting is perfect for after work cocktails, a casual business meeting, or a first date. As I texted my friends while waiting on my margarita and queso (also great, BTW, but more on that in a bit...), I realized that my mouth was watering from the amazing smells in the restaurant. I realized at that point that this joint was a lot more than your typical Tex-Mex grub hole. Now...I love me some good trashy Tex-Mex, it's what I grew up on, but well refined Tex-Mex is something special. And hard to find. You can get authentic Mexican food without looking too hard, but finding good....genuinely GOOD Tex-Mex is like finding hen's teeth. Back to that queso. It was delish!! Nothing to write home about, and it was the low light of my meal, but solidly Tex-Mex....not cheap Velveeta, but not uber-classy. Just right. What I LOVED about ordering the queso (and perhaps this comes with the ubiquitous bowl of chips that every Mexican joint is known for) but there was a sampler of salsas, as well as the large bowl of house salsa. A wonderful intro into my meal! Now, I judge Mexican joints on their chimichangas. It's just how I roll. The chimichanga that Abuelo's serves is A-FREAKING-MAZING! I've had some very good steak or "fajita-steak" chimis before, but the quality of the beef in this fried burrito was phenomenal, and would stand up to the flavour profile at any Taste of Texas or Ruth's Chris. I can't decide if I'm disappointed about the amount of cheese in the chimi....there was A LOT. And it may have overwhelmed sine of the beef. But it was phenomenal as well. Seriously, my new favorite chimichanga. Unfortunately, there was no room for dessert, but I didn't plan on dessert. Next time, I'll plan my business differently.

My family and I visited for the first time. The first thing we noticed was the menu, our server was very friendly, as we ordered our food we were a little disappointed about the fact that the refried beans had pork. We substituted for black beans, we ordered the super size meal for our family of 4 since my son is not a big eater. Price was reasonable. I gave a 4 star bcz of the pork, but highly recommend.

This is a beautiful and delicious restaurant. They have a nice bar area with TVs all around and a beautiful dinning area. The restaurant is very clean and so is the restroom. We went at lunch time so it was pretty quiet. Our waiter was phenomenal!! He checked in frequently, refilled drinks, and was readily available. The location is on the feeder of I10 and there is a street behind the restaurant to access it easily if you are coming from a side street. The whole strip center is nice, you can eat and go shop. The only suggestion I would give is someone should be at the front counter when you enter at all times to greet and seat customers. We stood there waiting for quite a while before the hostess appeared. She was not very happy, no smile, and didn’t apologize for the delay. There was also worker cleaning the table who saw us standing there and never acknowledged us. The first face and first impression customers get is when they walk on the door and are greeted or in this case, not greeted. Thankfully once we were seated it was all uphill from there. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, the food was delicious!!! But I would strongly encourage them to speak with your hostess for a better experience when entering.
